It's been awhile since I've been to the gym. A longgggg while. I was looking around for a gym in…read moreLebanon and decided to try out NWFit. Part of it is because I've always been a team sport player or runner, but have never really learned how to use gym equipment. As we know, you can definitely workout the wrong way and risk injuring yourself. I'm not old old, but old enough that if I hurt myself I will be at risk for longer recovery. Not a good plan. What I appreciate about NWFit is they offer a "No Sweat Consultation" session where you meet with the trainer (Nolan, who is also the owner) and discuss your goals and current lifestyle. Nolan is very friendly and does not make you feel like you are a lazy blob. He explains his approach to fitness and sees if it aligns with your goals. You have the option to sign up for group session or one-on-one, obviously pricing will be different. There is no annual membership fee or sign up cost. You pay weekly and have the option for how many days you plan on coming and prices reflect the number of days. For my current goals, he suggested going with the option that allows me to attend group sessions 4-6 day a week. In hindsight, I know myself better than that, I should have eased into this. I definitely felt stressed when I missed a day. My biggest challenge was the class times. I am not a morning person at all and I work basically 8-5 hours. No way I was making the 5 or 6 AM classes. I suppose you can make the argument that if my health was important, I'd wake up to go. I love my sleep though and sleep is also important. Case closed. The latest class is 6PM but that's not every day. Prior to attending an actual group class, you meet with Nolan so he can evaluate your current fitness level to cater the workouts to you. Yes, it is a group session, but the way he runs it, it can be adjusted to your needs and level. I attended only 3 of the 4-6 days my first week. See, I failed. But mannnnn did those sessions do me good. I was exhausted, but a good exhausted. I didn't feel like I overdid it during the sessions, but definitely challenged physically. I think it was originally intended to be a crossfit gym, but Nolan mentioned he's going away from that. The workouts are more focused on strength and flexibility. This combination allows for effective workouts and prevention of injury. Good things! There was never more than 8 people on any of the days I attended. It was a small intimate feel. He did mentioned it can sometimes get up to 15-16 people and he tries to cap it at 20 people max. Due to it being summer and my schedule is irregular, I was able to reach out to Nolan and ask for my membership to be paused temporarily. When I'm ready to come back, I just send him a un-pause email. Super easy.

I just experienced the incredible lightness of being after taking Jaquetta's ( Jak- KET'- ah) Friday 5:30 pm Yin Yoga class. For greater detail on the topic * scroll to the end of this review, and read below the * asterisk. You don't need to know your Yin from your Yang in order to get the full benefits of a Yin Yoga Class. Yin is the kind of sit-on-your-ass-class... a tradition or style of yoga you'll most likely get your weekend football -watching husband to join you with. Bring him along to Jaquetta's class where I noticed folks of all ages and sizes and genders. The relaxed pace is taught by the very beautiful ( inside and out) and charming Jaquetta. A Yogini who knows her stuff. What better way to top off a busy work-week than with a mellow- but-good-for-your-circulation Yin class? Jaquetta's Yin class is an on-going Friday pm affair. Make it a habit, and you'll share the ride with a few friendly locals. One of my favorite things about a yoga practice is that it's very individual. One can make being part of the yoga community in Lebanon Oregon as social or solitary as one wishes. I was introduced to Jaquetta's class my meditation instructor, Raleigh. I can be a little anti-social, so this is a safe place to be "alone in a crowd " if you catch my drift. The yoga/spiritual community here is in full harmony with Lebanon's well established church traditions,, so please bear in mind that Yoga, the yolking of mind and body is simply a system for Self-care that is never in conflict with our biblical Teachings, lifestyle, beliefs, traditions, and rituals. ### *What is Yin Yoga? Yin is often mistaken for Restorative Yoga, like Restorative yin yoga is a passive yoga practice that is slow with very few postures that are held for more extended periods of time. But instead of focusing on relaxation, yin yoga focuses on improving mobility so that you can sit more comfortably and for a longer time in meditation. Yin yoga poses target the connective tissue around your joints to improve range of motion and flexibility. Yin yoga poses are almost all seated poses, and each pose is held for between 1 to 20 minutes, although typically, the length is between 3 to 7 minutes for beginners. Holding poses for these extended periods helps to target deeper into the fascia or the matrix of connective tissue spread throughout the entire body.
