I love love Sammons, it's been around for many many years. It's small but the food has a big taste and it's sooooo good everything. The hotdogs can be made any way you want them buy adding coleslaw or sourcrout. The burgers are amazing and the barbeque as well, their sweet tea is the best, once you try any of it you will be addicted. read more

Was working in town and decided to try this staple that the hometown people talk about. I ordered a chili dog, fries and tea...the chili dog is similar to the ones at the Varsity in Atlanta if you are familiar with those. The seasoned fries and tea was really good. Affordable as well! I've gone to Sammons for years. It's a staple in Elizabethton. I went today to get a 1/2 gallon of lemonade, that's clearly marked 2.29 on your sign and pulled around to the window and the total was 4.21. Now with tax it's not 4.21 in a million years (more like 2.80). I get it, you haven't updated your sign. But when a customer points it out to you the appropriate thing to do is, honor the price posted, apologize, and then go update it. NOT have your snarky staff who've asked the OWNER about this, to relay the "The owner (who was at the store at the time) said the price is 4.21, that includes tax" While I'm sure me not coming back to Sammons for anything won't put a dent in your business, your competitor Chick-Fil-a who's about 1/2 mile down the road and sells equally delicious lemonade at less that your incorrect-upcharged-at-the-window lemonade with a smile on their face. And I bet if this same thing would have happened, they would have honored the posted price, apologized and sent me home with a coupon for a free sandwich b/c they value my business. Have been meaning to stop by this place for a year or so and today, I finally did it! The Burger was pretty good and had that classic "Cafeteria" taste to it and the fries were fresh and hot. The lemonade stuck out to me the most because it was really,really good. I appreciate places like this because although they are not great, they sure are light-years better then McDonalds etc. I really can't place my finger on why, but this place just has an overall better quality and taste much like a Tastee Freeze or the likes. One of those places I remember from my childhood and miss now that I live in middle Tennessee. We'd get a hotdog and a sweet tea when we'd be driving home from a doctors appointment or something. It was always a treat. Plus I thought it was fun because it looked like a circus cart. My Mammie and I went here today after her doctors appointments and I treated us to milkshakes, cheddar tots, and sweet tea. The lemonade is not fresh squeezed like the sign indicates. The burgers are like a smushy wet Krystal burger. I really don't get the hype. We stopped because one of the people I was with wanted fresh lemonade. This is some sort of artificial powder with maybe some lemons squeezed in. My parents live in Elizabethton and this is one of my "must visit" places when I go up to see the family. It's just a little drive-thru where you can get a really good hot dog and seasoned fries. I've tried several combos over the years and they're all good. Sammons is highly recommended on a summer afternoon when you can enjoy your dogs at Sycamore Shoals, down by the Doe River. read more

While their hot dogs are pretty tasty, and their seasoned fries are great...the real star here is the lemonade. I don't like lemonade but this stuff is to die for. I'm HOOKED on the stuff and will honestly go through the drive through specifically for lemonade....that's it. But no, the food is good too--you can get your dogs with anything from plain ketchup to chili and cheese on them. Friendly and fast service... not expensive....very tasty. read more

Stopped there after church Saturday evening to check this place out for the first time. They were supposed to be known for their hotdogs so I ordered a couple and my girl friend ordered a hamburger. My hotdogs were lukewarm and there was nothing special about them. My girlfriend bit into her hamburger and it was cold in the middle. I took the burger up to the window and asked them if their food was made up ahead of time. They were honest enough to admit they were and did give me a refund on the burger. Let's just say I won't be back as I'm not too interested in purchasing food that has been made up ahead of time and is sitting in a pan waiting to be sold. read more
