Tennessee Barrel, Small Mac & Cheese
    Christina W.

First time trying this popular burger bar downtown by the railroad tracks. Met some friends on a Saturday for dinner while the TN Vols were playing football. Loud inside and outside from all the TN fans. Started off with a couple appetizers: Onion Rings - thickly sliced and deep fried. Hard boiled eggs on top of guacamole sprinkled with bacon jam. They must have been running low on the bacon jam because we barely had more than a speck on each egg. However, this dish is delicious. I would get it again. Main dish: Hubby ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries. I ordered the TN Barrel burger WITHOUT a bun. Unfortunately, they served it with a gluten free bun. In place of the fries I substituted a small mac-n-cheese. Is the mac-n-cheese supposed to be room temperature? Mine was. That was not very tasty. Would have preferred it to be bubbly hot. Quick friendly service in a loud environment. They keep smiling through the chaos which is appreciated.

Stooped in for lunch. Sat at the bar. Good selection of draft beers. I had the chicken blt came with fries. Fries were a little soft but homemade. I prefer a crunchy fry. Husband had the wings with general tso sauce that was delicious. Clean inside bartender was friendly and attentive. Would go sire come back again. They have a large outside area outback as well.

An overall good showing. Location and food is not afraid to show you some attitude. 5pm on a Tuesday. Most people are seated in the bar for the bartender to take their order. Service was to the point and not overly cutesy. She was there to do a job and she did it. Manger checked in at the end of the meal. Normal three questions. First time? Enjoying? Anything she could do? Atmosphere is a 10 out of 10. Historical. Fantastic renovation. Everything makes sense and it's not cluttered. Warning. The bar gets blinded at sunset when people go out to the patio. No fixing that. Food. Brisket was reheated. Husband ate half. Tennessee smash burger needed some acid or salad toppers to break up the richness. Also, too thick to be smash. Good ground. Slaw, it's trying something. Savory taste. I'm more of a sweet slaw woman. Fries and onion slaw, fantastic. Grilled chicken with orzo and broccoli was plate licking good according to my father in law. Highly recommended. Million dollar spin dip was ok. Chips all cooked and separated. Decent flavor. The epic eggs were my favorite. Do not miss. If you don't like guac, get it on the side for others. They lay on them. Bacon jam on top and whipped yolks will stay me. Might try recreate the recipe. There is an impressive outdoor area with burn pit, outside fireplace and rail stop bar. Great local place to try.

Lunch with the hubby for the best burgers ever!

Superb. The best burger in Easy TN by far! The only thing as good as the food is the service and ambiance. 10/10!!

We stopped in here on our drive east, after looking up "must sees" in Johnson City - and we were not disappointed! We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess, and introduced to our server, who was absolutely spectacular. Spencer was really wonderful: funny, friendly, professional, with great menu recommendations! I'm vegetarian, so I ordered the plant based burger with mac n cheese, which was absolutely delectable. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich that accidentally came with two sets of "frings" - onion rings, and french fries. Spencer comped the mistake, so I was able to enjoy some as well. My husband ordered a Yuengling beer and I decided to try Tennessee's famous, and "world's most famous" IPA, Xul - and I was not disappointed! It was very refreshing for an IPA. Within minutes of taking our order, our dishes came out, hot and ready to eat. The food was so terrible, it was gone within minutes and my husband and I stopped short of licking our plates. If you are visiting or driving through Johnson City, please stop by this delectable burger joint, which hosts an array of drinking and eating options. The service is fantastic, and the historic railroad building (with its original wood flooring) is really cool. It has a very chill vibe, that would be good for a girls'/boys' night out, date night, or just a family meal with the kids!

Food was very good. Not a great selection for non red meat eaters but still enjoyable. Fun atmosphere with friendly staff.

The last time we ate there my burger was greasy and the fries were greasy, not drained and not hot. Management is not good.

** DO NOT KNOW WHY YELP CHANGED NAME TO ABOVE!!! I initially created business page under the name…read more"The French Quarter @ Sonny's Marina" as this place is located in the Johnson City area and not the Kingsport area. Right on the waters of Boone Lake... huge bar with seating for 25+ folks with 30+ tables for dining and enjoying the sun and the view... Chatted with the proprietor when me and my cousin stopped in while we were cruising the lake just before the 4th of July. Enjoyed a couple of beers. He has a nice selection of Louisiana Abita beers (Amber, Purple Haze, Turbo Dog, Andygator etc...) Several beers on tap plus good selection of bottled beer as well. Does not offer spirits or liquor however. As you would expect from the name this place has a LA flair and the proprietor advised he started cooking his version of "Louisiana cuisine" so that he could gain entry into the many festivals that are held in the Tri-City area as he pretty much is the only vendor offering "Louisiana cuisine". While we were chatting and enjoying a beverage or 3 had several couples stop in from the land side (as opposed to the water side) and sit down for a meal. My cousin and I did not partake of any menu offerings but the folks there did seem to enjoy the food that was being prepared. If you're out on Boone Lake and running toward the Johnson City side of the lake I'd highly recommend a stop in to give this place a try. Because a native Louisianian is the one writing this review and offering the recommendation!!!

Not the French Quarter anymore…read more Place there is great but simple pub food, amazing wings. Think it is now called the broken ski grill.
