The lady at the front desk said it's the best burger in Johnson City. I have to say the burgers at huge and made just right. It's a nice bar with a ginormous tv although this Friday night was fairly dead with only 2 or 3 patrons other than my Mrs and I. It's bright clean and happy just like the staff. Easy access from Doubletree Hotel...just through the lobby. Upbeat and inviting. Kaitlyn did an amazing job. She was running the front by herself with lots of customers and she was great. Friendly and engaged. Great recommendation of the Banging Shrimp and Cheese Curds. A shout out to the cooks...Ricky and Jeremy. Great job guys. The burger was great...for $12 you choose everything and no extra charges for cheese or other toppings except some special stuff like bacon, bacon jam and a fried egg. This place is connected to a the double tree hotel. You can customize your burger in so many ways or go for an entree. Kaitlin and Julia (bartenders) are super nice. This place can be quiet being dedicated to a hotel but anyone can come in, watch sports (ask them to turn TV volume up), and relax after a long day. I stayed a week here and tried many things. I don't think that I can do this place justice. This hotel bar/ restaurant claims to have the best burgers with locally sourced beef and a crazy long list of toppings available. I can honestly say that this was the best burger I have ever tasted. Cooked to perfection ( medium rare) with an outside crust that will put your home grilling to shame. Hadn't been here in 3 years and the first time was incredible....this time, not so much. There were 3 of us and the bartender/server told us to sit wherever we liked. We grabbed a table and she came over with menus and asked what we would like to drink. She was pleasant and the place wasn't crowded...they had just opened and there were only 2 other tables that had been sat. She came back with the drinks and took an appetizer order...cheese curds. She offered ranch dressing along with the marinara sauce which was nice. She took our dinner order and shortly after the cheese curds came out (think mini mozzarella sticks) They were good and we devoured all of them. For the meals, 2 got the crusted chicken served over a spicy cream sauce with a piece of garlic bread. Both said their meals were good, not great and definitely not spicy at all. The big disappointment...my burger which I ordered medium came out well done with charred areas on the outside. Not even a hint of pink. I was hungry and it was still pretty good, but if the server had come back to ask how everything was, I would have sent it back. Nothing worse than going to a place known for their burgers, but the cook on the grill has no idea how to cook a burger medium....its called Burger Bar after all. Unfortunately, this visit didn't compare to how good it was the first time we went there. Also, while the waitress/bartender was good...asking how the food is a few minutes after it's served should be common practice at any restaurant. Despite my overall disappointment, we still left a 20% tip. If we go there again, I will ask for a medium cooked burger again and if it comes out like it did, I will be sending it back. read more

I was staying the night at the DoubleTree Hotel. Decided to try them out, I noticed that they had 2 private events and a huge group at a table. It was still pretty empty ( minus the group ) and the two private events were in another area inside the hotel. It was a slow atmosphere in the dining area it self. I also ordered the sweet potato fries with mustard mayo. The fries didn't come with it; that was a extra $2.50 I think. Well, the food took a while to come out and when it did came it was a chicken sandwich, WRONG ORDER ( it looked really good so I took a picture of it, lol ) !! Then she had to put my order back in and OMG that took forever. While I was waiting I decided to try this mustard mayo and it's sweet, don't let the name of the sauce scare you. It's really really good....by the time my burger came I wasn't even hungry anymore because of the wait time and I got annoyed..... So I asked for the burger to go and then I had to wait even longer for her to come to my table to get my visa card. She finally came and said ; " On the house " !!! Ladies and Gents that's how you get 5 stars, LMAO ! Just joking !! For a place to be called "Burger Bar", they better have some bangin' burgers!! Thank goodness for both them and us, they DO! When you sit down you grab the menu and a draw eraser marker and basically build your own burger. They also have wraps as well, or for those watching their carbs, no bun. Also choose how you'd like your meat cooked. I'm pretty sure they have a veggie patty selection as well. Their burgers are superb!! And I really really mean it. All the sides I've had here have been amazing as well! And service. My most recent visit service was EXCELLENT. Prompt, attentive, very sweet and polite. The place itself? Really cute place. The little lady and I had been craving a good burger so we decided one Friday to give the burger bar a try. It's located in the Doubletree Hotel in Johnson City and doubles as the hotel bar. We arrive before 6pm and had the place to ourselves. The bartender/waitress greeted us promptly and asked us to sit were we wished. I cannot remember her name but she was delightful. She explained the menu which is a laminated one page affair that you mark your choices on with a dry erase marker. Basically you pick your protein and type of bun. The you get to choose the toppings. I got a little carried away and added way too many toppings. The burger was delicious as was the pimiento cheese that was generously applied. I would seriously order a pimiento cheese sandwich here. It's delicious! Reminds me of my gramdmaw's "government" pimiento cheese. Needless to say we stuffed our faces with burgers and some delightful fries served in a mini deep fry basket. The burgers are pricey ($12 for beef) but they are cooked perfectly to order and they are huge. If you love a greasy tasty burger, do yourself a favor and give these guys a try. I only hope the lack of business was a fluke and more people will get out and try the burger bar. read more

We wanted to try a different burger place in town so we decided to hit up the Burger Bar. They have a lot of different meat and topping choices. I had a beef burger with ghost pepper cheese, avocado, egg, tomato, and lettuce with spicy chipotle mayo. I was impressed with the beef, it was cooked medium rare just as I had asked. However, we the burger was so greasy that it completely soaked the bottom bun before I could even bite into (see picture). The Parmesan fries were super delicious. I came to Burger Bar for my first time on February of 2022. I always carry my own drink because I don't trust restaurants to be clean. I was told that there was no outside food or drinks permitted in Burger Bar. When I ask them to make an exception she said no and as the hostess made a scene, she refused to serve us because I brought in and outside drink. I drink water all the time in many restaurants and I've never been treated with such disrespect by anyone. I highly recommend ANY other restaurant if you're considering Burger Bar in Johnson City TN. I read the reviews before I visited with my girlfriend. Heard service was terrible and my visit echoed those reviews. We were greeted by a pissed off bartender that was evidently upset that she had to work because it was lightly snowing outside. They ended up getting almost nothing that night in terms of snow. Because we stayed at the hotel, it was convenient and decided to go back the next night and give them another try. Same bartender was in better spirits, however we ordered and ate the black-eyed pea hummus and both my girlfriend and I had terrible stomach cramps around 5-6 hours later. Based on that and the previous nights experience, I doubt we will ever go back. Very cool decor, but obvious that it is poorly managed. Shame. read more
