We wanted to do something fun with the kids. We originally planned to rent from another business but they didn't do rentals because of the lake flooding. They recommended we try Sam's Dock. The hours of the business say they close at 8 pm. No where on their site or at their location do they state the last rental was at 6 pm. We arrived at 6:02 and the woman wouldn't rent a jet ski to us. It was disappointing for the kids but we decided to return the next day. We arrived with plenty of time to rent a jet ski. There were 5 of us but it turns out we can't rent a jet ski for 3. Because of this, we didn't want to leave one child alone at the dock so we opted to rent one jet ski and my husband took the kids out to the lake one at a time. We sat at the restaurant, which was closed, in between the kids' turns. The minimum rental is 2 hours on the jet skis and you have to pay for gas on top of the rental fee. This was a surprise to us. We ended up having to pay an extra $50+ for the gas for 2 hours. Just be aware of that. This side of the lake there wasn't any parking fee so that was good. I think they provided us with a military discount, which was great. My husband mentioned the young man didn't know how to use the point of sale computers either. It took at least 30 minutes to check in and pay before getting on the jet ski so make sure to factor in that your timing. read more

This company is ran by a bunch of very young kids, and when renting out boats that go out onto a very busy lake it's unacceptable. We own two boats and have rented boats numerous times. We know our way around boat rental companies, lake rules and how to operate water devices. Yesterdays experience was so unprofessional it was hard not to just walk away, but because we had 6 young kids who were excited for a 'boat day' we kept moving forward. Upon arrive we noticed that we had an older boat. It looked small, had bird poop and spider webs all over it. I had to wipe everything down. The back rope tie by the ladder was cracked and we had to wrap it with a towel so our kids did not scratch themselves on it. We asked to switch to the newer boat and were lied to that the owner had the keys and were not on property. That is 100% false. They also did not have kid life jackets. How do you rent out boats and not have kids life jackets? Mind blowing to me. What they offered to us was from 1996. The other life jackets were way too large for our 7 year olds. Completely unsafe. They also didn't have any adult life jackets to offer us. We had to use the orange Titanic versions of life jackets for the adults. The captains chair was broken. So my husband had to sit on up on his feet to see over the top of the boat. How dangerous is that? The child who got us in the boat said "I will make sure and write that down so we don't charge you for that"... ummm how about let's talk about how dangerous this is? We made our way to our favorite spot on Grapevine lake and we turned the boat off so we could swim in the water. After 45 minutes we tried to turn the boat back on and the key broke in half. I called the office and I was answered with a 'hello'. They then could not figure out where we were on the lake. Mind blowing to me. My husband finally got the boat started with his pocket knife. We made our way back to the store. When we arrived the person asked if we had a good time like we were going to get off. We still had over an hour left on our rental. My husband went inside to speak to the 'manager' and he told my husband THAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE KEY WE BROKE. What on earth? Absolutely not. That's how you greet a customer after getting stranded on the lake from your rental boat. My husband said we want to move to a new boat and GUESS WHAT?? They magically had the keys to the boat we wanted in the first place. We moved our items over to the new boat (with no help from the staff) and finished the rest of our rental time. They didn't offer any discount. We were all so tired we didn't have time to speak to the 'manager' that was on site. We have lived in Grapevine since the 70s. I will NEVER recommend this place to any one. What a horrible experience and customer service. read more

First I read the poor reviews AFTER we already paid for our pontoon. So I was a bit concerned. When we got to the dock we met Jackson. Jackson was extremely professional. I asked about the poor reviews and his response was professional and courteous. When we returned we met Curt the owner who also was very kind and professional. Here's my take. If they were as bad as the reviews they still wouldn't be getting as much business as they do. People are quick to write a poor review without telling the full story. More people need to tell the good. You can't damage goods and expect that there won't be and consequences. This is a family business. They need to ensure their property is taken care of. We scheduled a 2h jet ski rental at the marina location on the north side of the lake, so this reflects that site only. Jet skis are as fun as you make them, so I'll just give tips for you if you decide to rent here: 1) make sure you take pictures of the jet ski before you sign the damage sheet; the one we had had a shredded seat, and the fiberglass looked like it had been wrecked a couple of times; even the right side view mirror was off; ran fine though 2) the no-wake zone at this location is 12-13min both in and out of the marina, so account for that time when you rent as it eats into your rental 3) gas is NOT included, and for a 2h rental, cost about $25 extra; that was NOT anywhere in the agreement 4) another hidden cost is $10 entry into the marina just to park; not a lot, but important to know read more

This incident occurred in August of 2020. If I could give this business ZERO stars I would. I arrived to the marina with a large group for a surprise birthday event for a friend who was completely unaware of the reservation until we arrived. As we are all anxiously getting dressed and ready to celebrate the person who made the reservation informed us we could not go on the boat. They employees on site stated the boat we were supposed to use was in an accident and damaged by the previous party. They supposedly had no other boats they could let us use because those boats were reserved for other parties later in the day about 4-5 hours after our reservation. They said that wasn't enough time to clean the boat. They also claimed they tried to call the head of our party hours before to let them know of the incident but they could not prove any records of these calls and we had no missed calls on our devices. Then they had the audacity to call the police on our party which was completely uncalled for and unnecessary. With everything going on in the world at the time the police arriving highly upset and scared a lot of the people in the party because there was no crime being committed and we were doing nothing wrong. This all escalated because when we were initially told our reservation was cancelled we were not greeted upon arrival to the dock with professionalism. We were told "this isn't our problem and your reservation was cancelled because we don't have a boat for you." A refund was given only after the police arrived. Even the police agreed there was no reason for them to be called and the business was not acting appropriately. While the reasons for us not being able to boat were valid I am writing this review because of the way we were treated, absolutely not ok. Take your business elsewhere I'm sure there are plenty of places with better customer service and lots of boats. read more

My husband rented a pontoon boat for Mother's Day. They happily took our credit card payment 3 days in advance, but when we showed up Mother's Day morning at our reserved time NO ONE was there to give us access to the boat! We waited 30 minutes and left several messages, but no one would return our calls. A week later (after repeated phone calls) someone finally answered the phone and gave me the email address of the owner. Of course we've had NO REPLY to that email! If possible...please re-route this post to Sam's Dock at Twin Coves Marina! First of all: Cost Rocks...this young man mad our day!!! We rented a pontoon and two wave runners for 4 hours. We had some stragglers who arrived late...and Costa helped everyone unload and load all of the gear and did an excellent job of providing vests for everyone, including the little ones. Our day on the lake was perfect! Wave Runners were flying everywhere...a tube was usually being dragged from behind...or the kids were playing in the "Sand" at the end of the lake. Afterwards, Costa was there to meet us and unload while I rounded up the troops for a fantastic lunch at Rockin' S next door. We'll be back! read more

Dropped in today at the Silver Lake Marina location on Lake Grapevine hoping to rent a boat. Snagged a ski boat to cruise the lake for a few hours. Boat was clean and in good condition with a full tank of gas. The deck hand helped us load and then we went over and documented on the condition report all the little scrapes and minor cosmetic defects and how everything worked and where all the gear was and we were off 15 minutes early free of charge. Boat operated flawlessly and we had a great time. Return was easy and we paid for gas used and we were on our way home. No hidden fees or charges. For the price they charge it would be nice if the first tank of gas was included. The rental office is clean and well stocked with food drink and toys for a day on the lake. We'll be back. read more

I rented a boat for my birthday and paid $450 for 3 hours. We arrived on time & had to wait 30 mins for them to get the boat ready. We were told they would give us an additional 30 mins and we were appreciative. An hour into the ride another boat crashed into ours while we were anchored taking pics. (our boat has zero damage, theirs did) The driver was drunk, rude and insane. We pulled off to get away from them yelling and they started chasing us around the lake for HOURS. We were terrified and called the office numerous times and finally someone picked up. They told us drive back to the marina and they would handle it. We got back and the cops were called but decided this was a civil matter and they didn't do anything to us or the other party. Long story short my whole birthday was ruined & we tried to get a rain check but the young teen working (parker) was extremely rude, aggravated & unprofessional & so was the manager who wouldn't even speak to us. Did not care AT ALL that their customers were chased by drunks for hours on the lake, did not try to do anything and told us "be glad we didn't dock you for being late with the boat and you need to leave" (We weren't late) TERRIBLE customer service, rude employees and a horrible manager. I need more stars for Sam's Dock- Silver Lake. This place was amazing from start to finish. We walked in on Thursday hoping to be able to rent on Friday and they made it happen. We rented a Pontoon, tube and wave runner for the day for our family of 5. We had a BLAST!! The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We did a little fishing, the tube was in full force, and I did not think I was going to be able to get my family off the wave runner. The price was very affordable and worth every dollar. They suck, save your money and rent from another company. Boats and jet skis are trash and brake down. They charge you for damage although they rented you crap. Civil suit may follow. read more

I rented this boat for my best friends birthday! We paid $450 for 3 hours and when we got there took 30 minutes to even get the boat ready which cut into our time! Then when we were out on the lake (might I add the weather was TERRIBLE on this day and nobody was out on the water but they wouldn't let us reschedule) and were anchored in the water when another boat HIT US!!!! We had NO damage on the rental boat and the other boat had damaged due to them running smack into our boat! In a nutshell the lady and man chased us all around Grapevine lake for almost 2 hours yelling, screaming, and flipping us off. We were scared and didn't know what to do so we called the marina and they had us drive back to them and called the cops to deal with the couple who was acting insane. In a nutshell.... Sam's Dock's manager, Park started yelling very loudly and cussing because he was going to have to stay later to take care of this situation as any other manger would but he's a teenager so he's probably not used to having much responsibility. He was very rude to my friend and I when it was HER BIRTHDAY and we paid all this money to not even enjoy the boat just ride around the whole lake like we were on fast and furious! Parker told us we had to leave and wouldn't give us a rain check to make up our time. WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!! Wish I had read these reviews before we booked this!!! read more

Rented a pontoon boat. Crazy expensive - 5 hours for $700 not including fuel. Boat's are in very poor condition, under-powered, and just all-around lack of value for the price. The fuel gauge didn't work and they didn't fill up the tank when we returned to indicate how much fuel we used, yet charged us a random price. Speedometer didn't work. For comparison, I'm renting a Yamaha AR240 550HP jet boat on Lake Washington ALL DAY for only $550. I guess they have the market cornered on Lake Grapevine, so I'll have to find another source for renting. read more

Never use this place. We were renting a wave runner mid day on Wednesday. You could see on the board behind the rental counter that they only had like 4 vehicles of 10 or more rented over the entire day. Despite the slow day the manager started giving us attitude the moment we walked in. He was a smart alec when telling us my 18 year old son he could not drive it. Ok whatever that's how they do business but you don't have to be a jerk about it. I told the young lady at the counter that we would want to get a couple extra life jackets because I was going to let some other people ride with me later. She said that's no problem just tell the guys at the dock. My son was with me and I didn't have to put his name on anything since he would just be a passenger. When we got down to the dock.the story changed. The teenager there says that we can switch out riders but we can only.do it at their dock not out in the water or at another dock on the lake. All the riders would have to be listed on a manifest. I can't imagine why we have to list the other riders when we didn't have to list them when we signed in and signed the contract. But that's what he.said. when I questioned this he asks the manager. So this guy starts up with his attitude again. In a condescending an arrogant tone he tells me that not only do the riders all have to get on at their dock but we cannot even come back to their dock and switch later. Everyone who is going to ride must get on and stay on the whole 4 hours we rented the wave runner. So, in told him that was a lame rule and he.mouthed off about it was too much trouble for them to have someone help us dock each time we came in. Bear in mind they only had 4 customers all day. Then he.added "that's just our policy." It's a dumb policy and it would have been nice for them to explain that at the beginning before they took your money. Plus a business may have policies and that's their right but if you want people to come back don't be rude when you are explaining them. I just went through the FAQS online and none of this is stated there. In fact it says the minimum age to operate their wave runners is 18. I used this place several times when it was under different management and had great experiences. Not so much today. I don't know if that guy was the owner but if not the owner should seriously consider a change. On the plus side they gave us a refund when I asked for it but they should have just made it easier in the first place and accommodating for their customers then they could have made some money today. read more

Too bad you can't do a review with negative star rating. I will never use this place again worst rip off company there is. My husband and I rented a pontoon boat Sun for 6 hours and had a few friends with us and daughter. Started out the people in the rental office were very nice all was fine. Until about an hr and 45 min into the ride in the middle of the lake tubing the boat stopped running. The engine would run but would not go into gear. Mind you we have owned boats in the past along with the other people with us. So we raised the prop looked it over etc to see if we could see any damage. No damage. I called back to the rental office and asked for them to send someone out to switch boats. An hour later a kid on a jet ski comes out does all the same stuff over again. Says no damage not sure why it won't go in gear etc... so he calls back for them to bring another boat to tow us back. I asked can't they bring us a boat out here and we switch and y'all can tow the boat back. No that's not our policy. Told him that I didn't want to waist another hour of my time being towed back and switching boats. So after him calling the office over and over they finally agreed to bring a boat out so we could switch. The manager comes out in a ski boat which we ended up and using for the rest of the day. As we were driving off the manager yells from the other boat we were in asking what we hit. I was shocked went back and forth about that for a while arguing cause being in the middle of the lake we didn't hit anything. End of the day we return the ski boat go in get my cc they held for gas. Rude manager says you will be charged for a new prop. Told him it was BS I've owned boats in the past and have hit something with the prop and it doesn't make the engine not go in gear. They just had to make extra money that day cause sales were slow. Next morning I go to look at my cc and not only did they charge me 250 for a prop but another 500 for who knows what. I'm still waiting for an explanation on that. Worst boat rental company ever. My great 6 hour day with family and friends ended up in costing 1400.00. read more

I was in constant contact with the general manager of this place and he was very easy to deal with... the staff, however is another story. Typical lazy young kids (got the eye roll from the blonde behind the counter when at 330 pm i told her we wanted to rent for 2 hours) Her and her supervisor obviously wanted to go home early and basically gave us the worst customer service experience we've ever had. Storms were threatening but easy to see they were dissipating (which they did) but the mgr changed direction on me as we were already life jacketed up and said he would NOT give us a rain check if the weather moved in. Treated me like I was just like my 12 year old son who was along with me and who was also very disappointed.... but all ends well ... found out this place is super expensive($180 for two hours) on a jet ski plus fuel plus tip( which I am usually very generous) but not to these nitwits. Maybe go to their Lewisville location but not Grapevine... you won't enjoy the overall experience. We had a better time and much cheaper experience with some guys on lake Lewisville... read more

I rented a wave runner to take out for 2 hours with my wife. We got there early and thought everyone was very nice and helpful. When we went to go get on the wave runner I looked at both sides and noticed that it was torn up all the way around. I asked if all of the damage was documented and the guys told me that it was. We went out in the middle of the lake and played around, even stopped to swim for a little while, in the middle of the lake. When we returned to the dock, we unloaded our things and went inside. They informed us that we needed to go back outside because there was damage to the wave runner. I went out and the owner kept accusing me of hitting something because the side was torn up and there was no tape on the area. The entire thing was torn up before we took it out and they failed to document everything. They showed me the paper that they used to document damage and there was nothing on it. Apparently when we did the walk around of it, he did not notate the damage like he said he was doing. They informed me that I would be paying for damages. I told them not no but hell no I wasn't getting charged for damages because I didn't hit anything. I was no where near the shore, or trees, or other water craft at any time during the day. The owner was a smart ass to me and stated "I'll let you get away with it this time" and turned around and walked off. I will never use this place again, but if you decide to, take pictures of everything before you go out. They will try to charge you for damages that existed prior to you using it read more
