Half Price Books Clearance Sale 2014 Friday, Saturday & Sunday, October 10, 11 & 12
    P. Luly W.

This event space is older & could definitely use a face lift. But it is very spacious. There is a snack/refreshment area. Plus, restrooms are located on opposite ends to accommodate a large crowd. I attended the Half Price Books Clearance Sale. FREE event & FREE parking. Everything under $3! WOOT! The HPB people did an amazing job of utilizing the space. The rows of books, CDs, & DVDs were well organized & clearly marked Fiction, Romance, History, Cooking, etc. There were plenty of employees in red HPB Tshirts to greet people & help them find what they were looking for. Workers also kept the place clean & continually restocked & reorganized inventory. 10 cash registers were set up to quickly check people out & keep the line moving. Great event! So while the event space itself is not the greatest. Whoever rents this space can definitely make it work, as proven by the Half Price Books people.

dont leave anything valuable in your car.do not go outside alone at night Or better yet make sure you're out of here before it gets dark

There is no dress code, so people were able to get through with their cowboy hats and boots and buckles without problem -- great! However, I didn't feel safe when it came to firearms or knives. The venue itself is adequately staffed but I guess I'm used to the kindness of those at the Moody Center in Austin. Here, it just felt like people wanted a paycheck. The food wasn't jarring in upcharge but I didn't order anything because the Alamodome in general is just not clean. The bathrooms are a nightmare and I felt so bad for those who had to use the women's facilities. Everything seemed to have a line and the restroom line for women was tough. The actual concert was decent but to be honest, I was heavily overstimulated. I am super glad I brought my noise altering headphones because the dB went up to 97 at some points; far too loud for the seat I was in (101, row 24, seat 14). The seats were decent and, for someone with back problems, they did the job. The lighting on the stairs was also good as intoxicated people struggled to get to their seats. There's just a lot this place could improve...and that starts with entry and bathrooms. Then just turn the speakers down a bit! I really hope I never have to visit this venue again to see my favorite artists.

The other day it dawned on me whilst waiting in the merch line at a Paul Mccartney show outside the…read moreAlamodome. I was thinking about the finite parking space, which by the time you read this will be a hundred dollars. I thought about the logistics, the hair-brained foresight the progenitors of the Alamodome had. I thought for 30 seconds and realized there was none. The masterminds that brought the shortly lived Fiesta Plaza Mall, where the UTSA downtown campus now resides conjured up this cursed mess. The Alamodome could've been like the opulent or luxurious visions of Houston, New Orleans. But alas, they opted for a cheaper version. Which I believe has short changed the city. A few decades with the odd Post Malone show, UTSA football games or area graduations what is its purpose? It just sits there hunkering. It's aesthetics and architecture are pitiful. A one star denotes if it is so bad then why do I still go? The answer. Simply, there is no where else to go. And I'm not sure creating a new arena will resolve that. This review is beginning to sound like an Op Ed. I will move quickly with my critiques, which are many. The pros: Crickets! The cons: When it was built they forgot to include parking. Be careful parking in the neighborhood, as there are scammers abound. Designers should've created this venue with a parking garage in mind. Instead there are like a hundred available spaces for the 40, 000 person capacity. Even if you find parking it's like scaling Castle Greyskull to get to the entrance area. The security is ultra laxed here. I've gone to a few shows here and they barely wand you. At the Majestic Theater staff will hunt you down if you have a Fun Sized Snicker. Since the shows are of big drawing artists there is no walking space. Walls and walls of people bumping into you. God forbid you have to wait for your company who's gone to the lavatory. Or should I say using it at all. I will tell you having gone to many stalls in my Yelp Life at shows I have experienced the best and the worst. The restrooms are deplorable. The floor is wet with P.P. And a multitude of dudes drunk on $23 dollar Modelos wait in line to wet the floors. There is absolutely no breathing space. The word of the day here is: long lines. Lines for overpriced food and beer. Lines to get to your seat. At that capacity staff are ultra unhelpful. Make sure you are in the right section. I saw ushers tell a guy he had to walk the distance of half a football stadium to get to his seats. Am I ranting too much? Let me conclude this. The seating here is really tight. Even though we got some decent seats I still felt cramped in. The whole night someone kept kicking my seat from behind. The closer you are to floor seats, the longer your trip will be to get drinks, food and the restroom. Furthermore, never mind. City leaders constantly sing the praises of this place. I guess it's easier to proclaim this from box seating that most locals can't afford. The Alamodome is a venue in need of dire repair. Its interior hasn't seen any renovations since the Hemisphere Arena was demolished. But entertainers will continue to come here, especially as ticket prices continue to rise. And people will go to those shows as there is really no alternative venue. If it's any consolation you can wash down your sorrows with $20 dollar nachos and $40 dollar margaritas.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric fans were into it, music was on point, and you could really feel that playoff energy. One of the biggest wins for me was the front row parking super clutch and made the whole night smoother. Drinks were solid (a little pricey, but expected at a game), and the restrooms were surprisingly clean considering how packed it was. On a personal note, I even connected with someone there that could turn into a great business opportunity, so that made the night even more worth it. Only downside was the service. It felt slow and a bit unorganized at times, especially when trying to get attention or place orders. Overall, great vibes, great crowd, and a memorable nighteven walked out with a win on my bet. I'd definitely come back, just hoping the service improves next time.

Parking on-site varies and starts at $20 and up depending on the event. Traffic does get crazy but the police have it strategical planned well. Very organized! Staff is always friendly and helpful! Plenty of food options and the average stadium pricing. As far as viewing an event, there is a bad seat in the house for the view BUT as you go higher up, the stairs are pretty steep.
