We were pleased with the new aluminum gates but we were disappointed by their fitting. It would have been helpful if the Contractor, in charge, didn't have to rely on one of his workers to interpret. This was probably the cause of the front gate being hung from the wrong gate post. A stanchion, to help support a gate post was poorly fitted with coach bolts breaking the stucco surface, and, for the gates themselves, the length of the deadbolts required their faceplates to be shimmed. Communication, after fitting, was again poor but the noted items were partially corrected. Some photos follow
update 7/30/25: had some minor issues with a lock that needed to be replaced and the sliding mechanism bracket needed to be repaired. Johnatan and his team went over and beyond to fix the situation even after completing the job. Even gave me some touch up pain. World Class service. Price, value and service....nobody will come close to these guys..nobody.
We reached out to San Diego Custom Gates for our front yard fence project that included a pedestrian and sliding gate. Jonathan was super responsive through out the whole project and was able to translate our reference photos into a custom design for the project. They also had exceptional service adjusting to changes or fixing minor issues as they came up. If we ever need to replace our existing fences we will definitely work with them again.
Jonathan and his crew are the best custom-shop that we have worked with in San Diego. It's very hard to find someone that can build beautiful, quality products and whose installers are so easy to work with. From start to finish, the service was incredible. I sent Jonathan a few pictures of gates that I liked visually. He came to our house and we talked through what we wanted, the type of material, the stain color. He even came back a few times to show me stain colors on the actual wood and also give me an idea of door hardware. When it came time to install, I loved working with Carlos. He was proactive and asked me questions about aesthetics to really make sure that we were happy. They pay attention to detail and stand behind the quality of their work. We've done 2 projects with this company and will do a 3rd when we complete our garage remodel. Don't hesitate to call them. We have gotten so much joy from the number of neighbors that have complemented the gates and asked us about Jonathan's company. We recommend them very highly and we're looking forward to working with them again.
Jonathan and his crew were fantastic! They sanded and stained a courtyard fence and gate and repaired a side gate. We recently had the house painted and the lighter stain fence didn't look so great with a darker trim color. They were communicative, polite and very professional. Their work is top notch and everything looks great. I'd definitely hire them again for another job in the future!

I've been working with Jonathan for over 6 years and always had a good experience. He and his team always get the job done quickly, efficiently, and well done. If only other companies had the same sense of urgency and quality to match. Jonathan's company has done staircases, doors, framing, etc over the years. I know I can always count on him and he'll even do other jobs depending on the scope of things.
Had to replace a gate that had rotted (plus a 2nd gate to make sure they matched). SD Custom Gates came out to offer a free quote and helped me choose the right gates for my home. Let me tell you - the gates look amazing! Really high quality and I couldn't be happier.

I called for a quote, someone stopped by the same day, took some measurements, then he brought back some samples so I could see the design and color options, and then within 3 days I had a brand new gate installed. I also liked that he was pragmatic and re-used some of the metal frame from the existing gate to save material and cost. We were in need of replacement gates for the house. SD Custom Gates responded to my call very quickly. They came out to the house within a few days and examined the existing gates and pilasters. I was provided very nice catalogs with choices of various woods and hardware, and fittings. They took meticulous measurements and made renderings for the anticipated gates. Their prices were competitive with others. We have a very large dog, and they provided recommendations as well based upon this variable. They kept me updated on the construction of the gates by text messages which I appreciated and they finished before their deadline. The installation was also meticulous. These gates are gorgeous, very well made to the exact specifications, and feel solid. The wood is flawless and the custom prepared powder coated galvanized steel is very nice. The mechanisms are exact and the gates lock beautifully. Every fitting is perfect. They provide guarantees with various durations of wear depending on the type of wood. In summary, I could not be more pleased with the products. Five Stars!
Some posts on my fence line needed to be replaced. Jonathon and his team replaced the posts and salvaged every other piece of the fence. Great and fast work at a really good price. Highly recommended!

SD Custom Gates did a great job for us. We inquired about an aluminum gate for our front entrance, and when they were here we found out they can also do aluminum louvered pergolas with some custom work as well. Overall our experience was great. They were professional, flexible, and fast. Very high quality work. read more

Drove behind these guys while they filmed their buddies in sports cars with a camera hanging out the window. There was a horrific accident up ahead but these guys thought they were more important than everyone else, rode the exit and then cut everyone off all revving their engines. Do better. read more

We had replaced our side gate doors several times before finally deciding to find a specialist (and not just a handyman) to build ones that will last many years. We are so glad we found Jonaton at SD Custom Gates! He allowed us to send him a photo of the gates we wanted and his creation was spot on! He is masterful at his craft and a perfectionist. He even asked us to meet him at the powder coating shop so we could pick our exact color. (He was worried that a photo may distort the actual paint color). He estimated it would take him about two weeks to complete everything. He actually got back to me sooner than that. Everything came out as expected. Him and his partner did a great job. I called SD doors and gates based off their excellent reviews on Google. They did not disappoint. Johnatan came with his partner and went over all custom options with me, took measurements, gave me a quote on the spot and gave me a reasonable timetable for completion. They built exactly what I needed. A custom, secure locking gate. They also stuck to their timeframe and even moved the instal date per my late request. I can't recommend the crew at SD Custom Gates enough! We had a bad experience with our previous fence guy, who did horrible work and didn't even finish the job. Jonathan and his crew came in to save the day by repairing the previous guy's work, and finished the fence and gate to make it look amazing. They even changed their schedule and worked on Christmas eve to get the job done before a big rain was scheduled to come.
