We just got married here and couldn't have been more happy with the service we received here. My now husband and I were supposed to get married in the downtown courthouse off PCH but their internet servers were down. They directed us to go to Santee and they assured us that Santee would take care of us. We were worried that it was going to be a crowded, busy nightmare, but it was far from it. Very few people were inside (due to covid restrictions) and everything was brand new and clean. Not to mention it was quiet and everyone working there was super nice. Our wedding was taken outdoors and took less than 30 minutes, which is exactly what we wanted. The wedding started off rough but ended on a smooth, happy note. Overview: affordable way to get married, the wait times are pretty long even with an appointment, great amenities though ---- Came here for a friend's wedding and it was a pretty simple process, but they were running behind so we waited longer than the original time they were supposed to get married. We got here at 11:30AM, they signed some paperwork, then it was a waiting game with the ceremony starting at around 12:15PM. Thank goodness there's air conditioning inside and plenty of seating. Especially in Santee and this heatwave we are experiencing, the AC was an amazing relief. They also had a water bottle refill station and water fountain. I also realllyyy liked that they had free menstrual products in the bathroom (so awesome!). There was lots of people getting married that day with around 3-4 other couples getting married. We waited for our turn and when the officiant was ready, they called the names of the couple and then we went outside. The ceremony area was shaded and had concrete benches, the only thing is that other women people/families waiting outside had slowly congregated nearby and were a little talkative. The ceremony area is located to the left of the front entrance and provided shade so I understand people want relief from the hot sun, but o feel like there should be a sign or a small fence or something to denote that that's the ceremony area so that people are mindful. ---- Overall: a longer wait time than expected, great free amenities, and affordable things like getting married! read more

This is probably the best experience I've had concerning a government Agency/building. I went in at around 12:30 looking for a few copies of a birth certificate and was greeted at the front desk by an attendant with a great attitude (already 100x better than the DMV) and after filling out paperwork and receiving a number, was seen by a clerk within 5-10 minutes. Overall the experience may have been 15 minutes if that and the people I interacted with were amicable and amazing at their jobs. I'm sure that The 12:30 arrival definitely expedited the whole process but on top of that the building was clean and well kept. read more

We went to the record's office to get a copy of my mother's birth certificate. The process was fairly quick, and the cost was reasonable at $32. We were greeted by a fridndly woman at the front desk, and a nice cowboy sheriff opened the door for us. The clerk who helped us was Arlene and she was very friendly. I loved that the office let Arlene personalize her desk a little with her tiny disney figurines. This office was very clean and very inviting. read more

Had a super good experience here getting our marriage license! We got it during stricter Covid times and had to make an appointment well in advance and drive pretty far. I was not expecting to find the place in such great shape and so organized! The building is beautiful!!! I think it must have been renovated or built recently. Very clean. There is a chapel and even a lovely outdoor space for those that want to get married there. We didn't have to wait very long, and the staff was very patient, helpful, and kind. This clerks office is the least stressful I've ever used. I first used this office to obtain my marriage license; an appointment is required for a marriage license, so calling ahead is a must. I called three weeks before my wedding and the earliest they had open was five days before the big day, so calling sooner rather than later is a good idea. The appointment was rather painless and I was impressed with how simple this office is - quite refreshing for a government office! I also used this office to obtain copies of my marriage and birth certificates. Both visits were done in 10 minutes, amazing. The staff here is quite pleasant and quite knowledgeable, and have made my visits (almost) enjoyable. I'll continue to use this location should the need arise in the future. read more

Be aware and well informed before you go in. Research what you plan to do carefully. Do not assume civil servants in this office will act in your best interest. The person who waited on us at the very least unhelpful and at the worst, possibly deceitful in her intent to charge us a $75 Fee that did not apply to our transaction. She hid behind the guise of not being able to give "legal advice" until I challenged her for at least the third time. Background -We bought a house (owner occupied) several months ago. Last week I received the unrecorded deed to put the property into our trust, back from the title company. The title company said the lender didn't want the title company to record the deed to the trust which the title company had also prepared at the time of closing. The title company said I would need to get it recorded myself. The original deed transferring the property to us was recorded by the title company several months ago. It all seemed a little unusual but having been in the mortgage and banking business for over 40 years, did not concern me too much. When the clerk at the downtown recorder's office had looked document over carefully, she told me it would cost over $90.00, the recording fee plus $75.00 SB-2 fee. When I asked what that was and why I would be charged, she just said the SB-2 fee and said she could not give legal advise. Finally on my 3rd try, she produced a form that had reasons for exceptions from the fee that would need to be signed and recorded along with the deed. Owner occupied transactions such as mine were clearly exempt under SB-2 fees. She was or should have been aware that this was likely a residential owner occupied property (since the property address on the deed and the return address on the top of the deed were the same, and she had reviewed the document carefully). She never did ask the simple question of whether this was an owner occupied property. I read through the form, asked a question that again did not get an answer, checked one of the applicable boxes and signed it. She then said, OK that will be $23.00. When we first started the process, she gave my wife a "survey" to fill out and when my wife asked what the comments section was for, she just said, Oh, just say the service rep was pleasant, or helpful, or something like that. After the ordeal was over, I should have asked for the survey form back to properly fill it out, but was so upset over what we had been through, that I couldn't wait to get out of there with the recorded document in my hand. read more

Line was a bit long but expected for a government building. We had to get a copy of our child's birth certificate and I asked a few questions about name changing and mistakes ok my other kids birth certificate. The clerk informed me it was an easy fix and gave me the paperwork to complete the change. I read through the pamphlet luckily prior to sending the form and $ to Sacramento. Upon doing more research it seems for the change I need to occur I actually have to petition the courts to allow for the name change to happen are u serious?! This morning went to the office to submit our marriage license. Greeted by the friendly security guard. Wearing his mask appropriately. Escorted us to the receptions desk. The lady wearing appropriate face covering. We had to sit in the lobby area to finish application process. Lobby area was small, had two comfortable chairs around a very stylish table. We then proceeded to a larger lobby area and observed customer service from a distance. Instead of offering pens for public use, All associates asked, DID YOU BRING A PEN? Excellent practice. I loved that. No touchy touchy. Hand sanitizers were available from beginning to end of visit. No over crowding. This visit was excellent. No COVID-19 TRANSMISSIONS NOTED. read more

So we went to the El Cajon Office and were in and out off there in 15 mins. If you you live in east county and need the services of the county clerk for anything go to the El Cajon branch. Trust me. I needed a birth certificate. Signed in on the sheet at 11:55, walked out at 11:59. Don't know the lady's name who helped me, but the receipt says SRobles1---she was amazing. My toddler was being crazy, and she gave him a few stickers. I mentioned we needed the certificate to go on a plane trip, and as we walked away once the transaction was over, she wished us a safe trip! What a super star. Needed to get a birth certificate for our three week old baby. Make sure to have enough cash on you (28$), bring your check book or be prepared to pay a fee of 2.50$ to pay with a card. Walked in to ask a question, Maria handed me paperwork and told me to fill them out and was very, very short with me. I asked her for her name, ignored me, asked again, she answered with a mean face. Had to talk to supervisor, sup said they were to busy to answer all questions. I dont think I want to deal with these people if they act like this all the time. read more

The service was dreadful to say the least. We asked a simple question which the two reps standing at the check in counter were able to answer. Once we were called to counter #2 we had the most unfortunate luck to have Caesar assigned to us. Once informed of what he needed he got up and said he would be right back.... walked away with no urgency at all to return without having have spoken to anyone (as we could see as he never left our sight)to merely get his coffee mug with our paperwork still in hand. He returned again a few minutes later only to ask us to go back to the waiting area as he needed to ask someone and kept our paperwork. We overheard him tell a co-worker that person was in the break room and he didnt want to go in there. We waited 30 horrible minutes of watching him drink from his coffee mug, get on his cell phone and somehow manage to help two others customers. To only be called back to his desk and be told something completely different. We informed him thats not the information we had previous been told by the other techs that we were unlucky not to get to work with. We ended the conversation and asked him to return our paperwork to us. So done with his incompetence. Having to drive to down town San Diego to get the exact same thing in minutes. Horrible customer service. Make the drive any where but here. read more
