Another man came in after me, clearly who she knew, and she was extremely warm to him and welcoming. Completely disregarding me, continuing to rude the rest of my visit. Clearly, if you aren't a close personal friend of this grey haired woman, you aren't welcome. Walked out of the store without buying a single thing simply because I didn't want to support her business. Do NOT come here. read more

Great service and good selection. I was helped today by Mindy Nelson and she was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I ended up buying more than I planned for but I needed it and got good advice. Considering I live in Northern California and go to this shop when in San Diego says something. Good selection of used saddles too. When I get a new horse, I'll be shopping here and driving down from Northern California. I grew up in San Diego and just don't know of a place in Northern California that has good personal service. Came into this business again last week after my last visit which was quite a while ago.... Previously, I had purchased everything for my young child at this little shop when she started ridding lessons a few years ago and spent a significant amount of money.... Three stars is in all honesty, is pretty generous here.....for a few reasons unfortunately.... Still like this place, great consignment items and I like to support a small family owned businesses. But I pretty much came across an ice Queen who was working there last week and it seemed like she could have cared less if she had my business or not; which was pretty unfortunate.... Not sure of her name but she was an older woman and she did not seem happy to be there. No greeting. No offer to help me find anything. I had to ask on my own and little effort was put forward to help me and zero effort was made to make me feel welcome. I kind of have a feeling if she didn't know you and you weren't a regular customer, she could have cared less about you....Unfortunately, this is something we come across quite often in the equestrian world, it can be pretty darn clicky.... One other thing, a lot of the items that are on consignment were absolutely filthy. I'm talking years of built up horse hair, grease and dirt.. .I suggest making people wash things first before accepting them in your store for consignment. Selling used boots with crusty horse crap on the bottom of them for over a 100 bucks? I just can't go there.... I also know times are hard for all of us. It's hard to make a living, especially as a business owner. But have a little more pride you know- dust your shop, clean up the merch, at least greet your customers! Best place for all your equestrian needs! My daughter needed boots and a riding helmet for her horseback-riding camp. There is only one place to go in San Diego: San Diego Saddlery! Sara and her team had a great selection of products for us and helped us find items that matched our needs and our budget. They also gave a lot of great tips to my daughter to make her more comfortable for her first equestrian camp. They are experts! Plus, my dog had a great time schmoozing with their dog. Awesome little gem in East County! I'm not new to riding but I am quite new to riding English. I walked in needing an affordable, used English saddle for my draft horse. I don't ride, but I needed chaps and spurs for a historic costume for work, and the lady-- Cheryl, I believe-- was very nice and helpful! She guided me towards their consignment chaps, well within my stipend budget! And talked me through the difference between Western and English spurs. As a complete horse novice, the place was very approachable! And as a costume expert, fantastic selection for apparel and accessories! If I ever find myself owning a horse, I'd definitely come here regularly, but for now, I'll stop by any time I need to look the part. read more

Highly recommend! I sold my CWD Saddle here and they sold it quickly and have one of the lowest commission rates in San Diego for consignment. I've bought a lot of used things here over the years too, all of it has been good quality. Also love getting treats here, girth's, you name it. Wow totally worth the drive from north county. Some great used saddles. Good price & conditions. Western & English. Saddle pads, whips, boots, halters, headstalls, lead ropes & reins. Spurs, shampoos, conditioners, treats & helmets. This store has a great selection, Denise was helpful and we chatted the whole time we were there. Super friendly. A lot is gently used tack with lots of life in them still. Prices are good and a real bargain in many items. I added some pictures. Really bummed to see the quality of customer service plummet at this local business. I've been shopping here since I started showing at 6 years old and have been a loyal customer ever since and even refer most of my clients to this business for products and listing consignment items with them. However in the last 6 months there has been a serious decline in the organization, communication, and customer experience. With items priced at $150-$1100, not just $20 items. When I called to let them know I would be picking up my consignment items I was told that only 2 things were there when I had 3 total, when I asked where the 3rd item was I was told "We don't have it" and "we don't know where it is". So of course I drove down to see what was happening and my paperwork was lost and I was told I never brought the 3rd item in.. sat and waited for them to search through paperwork for 30 mins and then was told my 3rd item had been sold. A client of mine had some saddles on consignment that were sold and she wasn't notified of their sale until she called to try and pick up the saddles.. Really just bummed with the overall experience of dealing with this business these days.. Hope it gets better but we won't be back.. read more

They have a decent selection, but not really a lot. Sometimes I end up having to drive elsewhere to find what I need, but they have the basics. They also have a really good amount of consignment items, which are reasonably priced. Most staff are usually helpful, others not so much. read more

Being new to the Horse riding venture for our daughter we decided to pick up a helmet for her. I called before driving the 30minutes to the business to ensure they had a few options for children's helmets, they had more than enough options upon our arrival. Miriam who took my phone call remembered asking about them & helped us out tremendously by helping me fit the helmet & showing me how it should sit on her head & how snug it should be! I appreciate her help so much! She was very polite & approachable. The store has alot of supplies, from what I saw they had a nice variety of saddles, saddle pads, half chaps, boots, helmets & apparel. Definitely worth checking out! I have been buying from this store since they opened. This team of girls know their business! I went in the other day to get my horses new fly masks. I was looking for my same ol brand but they didn't have them. Ugg, they only carried one line. Hmmm, so the gal said, nope, this line is amazing. I put them on my kids, and wow! She was right, very sturdy, mesh gives their eyes plenty of room and the velcro is very strong. These will last a long time. I always find what they carry to be a great quality and great value! No need to drive to Del Mar when we have San Diego Saddlery in our back yard. read more

I always have so much fun checking out what they have, weather I go for something in particular or just go in to kill time. I have been going to this store since they opened. I happened to go through these reviews today and laughed when I saw a couple reviews saying the wonderful ladies here are "rude". ALL of the employees couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Believe me! I am a big pain in the butt! I buy all my stuff here including saddles. I have also sold stuff here. I bought 2 beautiful saddles, both of which I requested they ask the owners to come down in price. Both saddles I did get for less than asking price. I sold a couple of saddles through them and they called me to see if I would drop my price. They are all very patient and knowledgeable about horses. So my feeling to those saying not to go to this awesome store with these nice ladies...maybe you should check yourself! Could you be the rude one?? Just saying. Kudos to San Diego Saddlery! My nephew is the proud owner of a horse, so of course he wanted to get all his Tom Mix stuff. So I offered to take him out to look for his gear. This place came highly recommended, and once we arrived, it was clear this place would be our one stop shop. If you're a no nonsense rider who doesn't have time for airs and pretense, this place is for you... serious riders who want the best products and value, for their horses. My nephew knew exactly what he wanted, and they helped him out step by step, from the best fit gloves, to screen masks to help keep fleas off his thoroughbred; they even carry over the counter health products for your horse. As I wandered around, I kept an ear atuned to customers asking questions, and how they were all given thorough answers by the friendly staff. I also noted they have a consignment section of everything your horse could need. He came out of there with a big bill, but not nearly as huge as it would've been if he had gone to many other places in San Diego county. Besides, he was buying at a level that required almost one of everything. From here on out, it will be considerably reasonable... yeah we were both stoked about the place. FYI: decent parking since it's in a strip mall, so no need to worry about finding a place to park... now off to this place to eat that the lady behind the counter recommended, called Fred's. read more

I wanted to buy something for a family that said they were going to have a horse. I don't know the 1st thing about what to get but I came out of there with a pretty nice selection of items for a Christmas Gift. It worked out pretty great, they had no idea how many leather tack items were in the box. I'd do it all over again. The two women that helped me were so informative and professional. They usually have what I'm looking for when I go in and if they don't, it's usually worth checking back within the week since they bring new stuff in all the time. San Diego Saddlery is a decent place to go if you need horse supplies. I had a dressage saddle sit there on consignment for about 8 months, but it did finally sell and it was a mediocre saddle to be honest. The staff is helpful and they remember you from visit to visit, and they are great for advice on merchandise. They have a rather small selection of consignment and new tack, but have a lot of clothing and accessories. They also have health and grooming items (supplements, medications, etc.) and a decent selection of saddle pads. I enjoy shopping here for my every day horsie needs. :) read more

I'm blown away by all they carry for horses (and some other special pets too) It's fun to just wander and look -- I always find something to buy and right now I don't even have a horse! Terrible terrible absolutely terrible blanket service. I had a bunch of blankets but regardless of how many I had the same attention should've been shown to each of them and it simply wasn't. The little tears that should've been sewn up weren't, giant things like replacing belly straps simply didn't happen. 3 of my blankets were misplaced, it took almost 2 months to get them done, the staff at the front counter was extremely rude. I asked that the person repairing the blankets please call me before doing the repairs because I wanted Velcro sewn on the front chest of all of them but nobody bothered to call me. I will NEVER again go to this place again. By far the worst blanket service I've ever experienced. Do not go here! read more

I didn't know much about riding, but my niece loves it and I've found there are lots of things to buy when you love riding. I tried another store in the area and didn't have much luck with their staff. I now will only shop at San Diego Saddlery - they have a great selection but even better customer service. This is a great locally owned business for horse owners whether you show, parade, or just enjoy your horses casually. If you are into English, they have lots of clothes, boots, tack and helmets. For the non English among us, some show clothes but still a lot of tack. One thing in particular is that they take consignment items so you will find western saddles, basic equipment, even show halters. Nice selection of blankets and day sheets. What they don't have, such as a special size of sheet, they are willing to order. I also find them very handy for all the miscellaneous things like supplements, grooming supplies and fly products. I went to this store in search of a nice used show saddle. I found one on consignment that I looked up the average sales price on this particular model and age, and it was priced so high I laughed at the lady! Since it was on consignment (been there a LONG time) I asked if she would call the owner and consider a counter offer. She said no, they won't go any lower. The other saddles were MEH and still high for their age and condition. I never went back. read more

Liz and Denise have an excellent inventory for a small store and if they don't have it they are happy to order it. They've both been involved with horses since their youth and can answer almost any question from how to fit a helmet to what weight of blanket your horse needs in San Diego county. They carry both English and Western tack, clothing, supplies, saddles and will even sell your stuff consignment. Sadly I also just love to hang out in there and lust after all the stuff I want to buy. Maybe I should get a life that involves something other than horses! read more

The staff and selection here is amazing and the prices are even better. I started taking lessons so I needed riding clothes. I am a horse woman on a budget and the ladies working directed me to breeches in my size and budget (I had no clue what my size was and didn't even think they'd have my size). She helped me pick out good riding boots, helped me pick a helmet that fit properly and half chaps that fit comfortable. They were very helpful and patient, didn't try to sell me something that was out of budget either.
