I haven't ridden in over 10 years, and while I grew up around horses, I truly had no idea where to start when it came to getting new gear. I spent days researching online and was ready to order everything, but I'm so glad I decided to come in person instead. I walked out of Mary's literally smiling like I just had my first kiss and blushing because I looked so good in my new riding outfit. I ended up spending about $1,000 on a pair of boots, two pairs of pants, and a top, and every single item was top-tier in quality. The fit, the feel, everything was just right. I cannot thank Jennifer enough. She helped me for nearly two hours, patiently guiding me through trying on at least five pairs of boots and almost ten outfits. She was so kind, so patient, and genuinely cared about making sure everything fit perfectly. She didn't rush me and even switched out boots just to double-check the fit. I've truly never experienced service like that in any industry. I hugged her multiple times because I was that grateful. She made me feel confident and taken care of in a way I'll never forget. Sizing varies so much between brands. I wear a large in sports bras but ended up in an extra small top from one brand, so coming in person is a must. If you're new to riding or coming back like me, skip the online guessing and come here. The options are endless, the service is next level, and the experience is unforgettable. Mary'sTack store is just plain fun for any horse owner! The selection is amazing, the quality is superb and I like both the English and Western riding equipment. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable . I have bought new saddles and used saddles. I must say, the used saddles are in great shape. I always leave with something, not only do they have the items you came in for but also there's a good selection of items I didn't know that I needed until I discovered it at their store. There's no pressure from the staff, they are there to help, they will answer your questions,show you where the equipment you are looking for is, but never hover over you. Super disappointed in my experience with Mary's. I specifically asked for a gift card from Mary's for Christmas from my family so I could support a local business. January 21st I drive 1.5 hrs each way to buy a pair of boots. I ended up purchasing the ariat v sport which I was hesitant to do because the quality seemed sub par from the previous ariat boots I have owned but the sales girl said they were a customer favorite so I gave it a try with the understanding if they didn't work I could return them as long as the condition was fine. 15 days later and bloody heels (even with the equibands) and have the zippers drop down while riding repeatedly I knew the boots were not going to work. They are in almost new condition and I called the store to ask if I could exchange for a higher quality boot. The person who answered told me they would need to examine the boot to determine if I would be allowed to return them. She then said a manager would need to call me back and took my phone number. A week and a half later...no phone. I also sent an email. No response. I'll take my business to dover and smartpak where they honor their return policy and stand by selling quality products. read more

The last few years, the customer service has become more militaristic and unfriendly - aka, snobby, know nothing idiots. Today, I showed up at Mary's about 8:30. The OPEN sign was lit and the door open. AllI needed was a bag of OatMo. As I got out of my truck, some rude bitch, came out, and slammed the front door closed in my face without saying a word. I presuume the snotty employee was Jules, the manager. My suggestion is to shop elsewhere unlil they hire employees and management with some class and customer service skills. read more

Not so much you get spoken to condescendingly as if you are less than and then two staff members team up against you and say you're the problem. I live in AZ so I often have to shop online but every time I come to San Diego, I always make sure to shop at Mary's at least once to get things I really want for myself, or need! They have a variety of options for both horse and rider for horse care and riding equipment, to rider apparel, decor, and gifts! Price wise they're pretty affordable for California prices (and compared to some AZ prices). Overall, it's the best place to shop! read more

I will never use Mary's Tack again. I paid over $60 US funds about $80 Canadian for expedient shipping. When I called to confirm my order I was told I would receive it in about three days. It's now been nine days and they're still telling me about two more days. For $60 they could have and should have used Fed Ex. Never again and I do not recommend them to anyone. read more

If their customer service was as good as their marketing, this place would be something special. I think it's a brick and mortar store that started doing an online business. They appear to have invested all of their money in promoting and forgot about helping customers. Whatever the case, their online business is *NOT* ready from prime time. I've had 2 issues and have had to beg for answers when I try to contact them, i.e., have to contact them multiple times then get some vague "we're doing the best we can." They're the only US retailer who carries a particular item I really need for showing. I finally just ordered it from the UK and paid the extra shipping. I've been going to Mary's Tack & Feed for the past year for bales of hay and pelleted wood litter for my rabbits. Their hay is always great quality and smells wonderful, and the workers help load the bags of litter and hay into my car. My rabbits have no complaints about the hay received. :) I have tried both timothy and orchard hay bales. As I am allergic to hay, the orchard was much better to my sinuses than the timothy due to dust. As a tip, the store is happy to let you collect samples of the hay that have fallen on the ground if you are unsure if you want to commit to a bale. The bales are stacked out in front of the store in the parking lot, so don't visit on a rainy day as they will have all the hay covered by the tarp and inaccessible. The store does not sell partial bales of hay, which might be useful for a pet owner without that many rabbits. A single 3-string bale of hay lasts my two rabbits about 6 months, but my rabbits eat a decent amount daily. YMMV. Overall, they have great friendly staff, and it's always a pleasure to visit. read more

Beware the sales staff work on commission so they are constantly up-selling. I spent $3k on gear including boots that didn't fit to begin with (I didn't know bc I'm just learning to ride) but was "fitted" by a someone who told me she was a trainer. My actual trainer told me to return them bc the second I had them on for my first lesson she could see they weren't going to work. I returned them but left empty handed. They tried selling me $1000 boots - ridiculous for someone just learning. The gentleman I spoke with about returning my boots after 3 wearings was just wonderful. Mary's has more clothing than tack w/an average boot selection. They are more expensive than other tack stores. I won't go back unless I have to. read more
