Yet another 5 star review for Mike. We contacted San Diego Testing to determine what projects we could safely DIY in our 1960s era house. Mike was super professional, communicative, prompt, and knowledgable. He explained what he was doing as he went along, so when we got the report we wouldn't be overwhelmed. As expected, he found lead and asbestos, but now we know where to hire things out for professionals and what we can safely do ourselves. We asked him about some staining in the bathroom that looked like it could be mold, and rather than just charging us for mold testing, he told us he'd be happy to test for that if we liked, but it was most likely mold so we may want to just act on that likelihood. Not trying to nickel and dime us, just being helpful and giving his professional opinion. I also appreciated that he wasn't fear-mongering. He explained that certain findings (e.g. lead in the bathtub) aren't cause for concern so long as they remain in good condition, while others (asbestos material crumbling at HVAC joints) should be bumped up on our to-do list. When we got the report, I ran it by an engineer friend who has spent his career working on building material safety (i.e. he's a mold and asbestos expert), and he gave the report a thumbs up, saying we got solid information from Mike. (I say this only because I am not a mold/asbestos/lead expert, so I doubt I'd recognize a red flag on the report if one existed.) All this is to say, I highly recommend San Diego Testing. read more

We just bought a 1958 home and are planning out numerous remodeling projects include some wall cutting which will be done ourselves. I've used the little 3M lead paint test swabs before on other houses but never really felt confident about the results. We decided to go with a professional this time and test for both lead paint and asbestos throughout the home. We knew it would be expensive but we decided (hoped) it would be worth it for both having the documentation for any contractors who might request it and also just for our own piece of mind knowing what was in the walls.
