She was the only one who started me on Diathermy first, and she was spot on using that therapy on me! Nurse Evanie, who distributed meds was so cheery, kind and professional. She listened to my needs and acted promptly! I never waited long. The facility is kept super clean and maintenance crew like Hilda, Pedro and Lu Lu entered the room without loud chatter and were respectful and considerate of my needs to not have strong cleaners on the floor due to my respiratory condition. This place is not the modern remodeled kind but the care and cleanliness really matters a lot. The food was mostly very tasty. They happily substituted anything on the menu. The only change I would like to see is syrup without high fructose corn syrup and creamer without artificial ingredients If I didn't mention all staff by name, I still thank everyone for making my difficult time a little easier. Your entire nursing team on Station 2 where I was located was so welcoming and helpful to a new and extremely anxious arrival like myself. I must give special mention to CNAs Veronica and Alma with whom I spent the majority of my time. They were always attentive and cheerful when I needed it most. Assistant Director of Nursing Mike Lamb also went out of his way to assist me when I had questions or concerns about my situation. The Physical Therapy team was fantastic in their approach to my healing. Primarily led by Ted and Jurbee, my PT sessions became the best part of my day. Their expertise and advice produced immediate results and made me feel much more confident in my ultimate recovery. Finally, your Administrative team- Meredith Shipley, Erin Hickey and Crystal Islas provided the patient related information I needed to relieve undue stress from the moment I was admitted to the day of my release. Again, special mention to Erin and Crystal for their efficiency. Both went above and beyond to assist me with scheduling doctors appointments and home nursing follow-up. As I am facing additional surgery there is a good chance I will be admitted to rehab again within the next few months. I will be sure to specifically request your facility. You are very fortunate to have such a professional, skilled and compassionate group of people working with you in the service of others struggling with various health challenges. We could NEVER get ahold of the nurses station, but when I would be there the RN would be sitting on her personal phone on Facebook. She developed multiple bedsores while there. And that's not even everything that was wrong with place. If you have the option to have yourself or a loved one in any other facility I would recommend never sending them to Menifee lakes. There were 2 CNAs we worked with occasionally that seemed to genuinely care, but other than that the experience was absolutely dreadful and made the already devastating process of losing a loved one even more stressful. My doctor recommended Sundance Creek Post Acute in Banning, so I went online to do a little research. Sundance Creek did not have the greatest reviews but then again the other facilities in this category did not fair that well either. So Sundance it was! It is established that online reviews for rehab centers can be mostly negative and grim. I decided that since my stay went as well as it did, it was incumbent upon me to make sure that my positive experiences deserved to be shared with others so that there is hope for those who are seeking a facility that offers promise. Following is my takeaway: EXCEPTIONAL CARE: All of the CNAs and LVNs were caring, helpful, and even funny, but I have a special shout-out to Louis Obioha. He has a truly caring CNA heart. If you had any anxiety before his shift started, his calming presence, while very caringly addressing your needs, leaves you with an "all is well" feeling throughout the rest of his shift. MEDICATION CART: "Singing Danny", Karla and Vanessa (LVNs) brought their knowledge of all the medications that you should be taking along with much cheer to the daily med passes. EXPERT THERAPY: The physical therapy team is top-tier and abundant. Their knowledge and encouragement were the primary drivers of my recovery. FACILITY & COMFORT: The facility is "clean as a whistle" thanks to Mr. Longie, who is hard at work by 4:00 AM., who takes great pride in his clean and shiny floors! The housekeeping staff were very thorough with their daily sweeping, dusting and mopping of our rooms. My room was very clean and bright, the bed was comfortable, and my linens were changed daily. LEADERSHIP: The Director, Mr. Brett Kendrick, is an empathetic leader who ensures every patient's needs are met. He wears many hats. Organizer. Peacemaker. Overseer. Facilitator and is able to pick up the slack of others when necessary. He truly is the anchor of this facility. SOCIAL LIFE: From bingo and crafts to church services, there was always something to do in the activity center. My only minor gripe is the food. For the Love of Benji. Can nothing be done to make institutional food palatable? That said, I have to tell you that my choice to stay at Sundance Creek was the absolute correct decision to make. I do not regret the option that I chose. If you need skilled nursing and rehab, Sundance Creek is absolutely worth your consideration. I am including a few pictures of what happiness looks like.

What my family and I witnessed was not just disappointing, it was inexcusable! From the moment she was admitted, there were immediate red flags. Despite the presence of numerous staff members, basic standards of care were not met. My aunt was repeatedly left in soiled garments for extended periods, and critical medications were delayed or entirely missed. The neglect was not subtle....it was blatant. Angelica, who was assigned to her floor during several shifts, exhibited a level of indifference that was both shocking and dangerous. Rather than tending to my aunt's needs, she seemed more concerned with avoiding responsibility. On one occasion, I personally witnessed Angelica ignore multiple patient call lights, including my aunt's, for nearly an hour. Melissa, another staff member, displayed an alarming lack of compassion and professionalism. When asked direct questions about my aunt's care plan and physical therapy schedule, she responded dismissively and without any clear knowledge. It took over a week for any form of physical therapy to be initiated. And by then my aunt's mobility had severely deteriorated rapidly. Amanda's conduct was perhaps the most disturbing. She was observed speaking rudely to several patients and was especially careless during basic hygiene care. There were several days where my aunt was not bathed, and her wounds which should have been routinely cleaned and monitored were visibly worsening. Amanda never once acknowledged this or reported concerns, despite it being her direct responsibility. The facility itself was in disarray. It smelled strongly of urine and feces. Patients were heard crying out for help, and some were even seen wandering unattended. This is not a safe or healing environment. When I brought these issues up with the director of the facility, the social services director I met with passive indifference and redirected me to a case manager, Melinda, who seemed more interested in placating us as a family than taking action. Every conversation felt like a bother rather than genuine concern. To add insult to injury, when we decided to transfer my aunt to hospice care due to the rapid decline in her condition they still were completely unaware of what was going on and of her case. She was treated worse than a dog. There may have been a few nurses who tried their best, but isolated acts of kindness cannot undo the widespread and consistent negligence that led to my aunt's decline. This experience has been nothing short of traumatic for me and my family. I urge anyone considering this facility to think twice. The level of carelessness, unprofessionalism, and outright neglect we encountered has had lasting consequences. No one deserves to be treated this way especially not our vulnerable loved ones... there needs to be a better standard of code for this facility and they need to be held accountable for their actions! In other words if you have a family member in need of care I would steer clear from this facility. Hell you'd probably be better off taking care of them at home with no experience.

October 2025: I was scared to death as I knew that I was in desperate need of a rehabilitation…read morecenter for my opioid use disorder and alcoholism. This was my first time ever reaching out for help & going to a recovery center. Everything about Hemet Valley Recovery Center was welcoming, transparent & beyond my expectations. Here is my personal experience broken down into sections so the reader can skip to the section that most applies to their personal needs. Bottom line: HVRC saved my life & has helped me find my life purpose again. Initial phone call: I had to check availability & insurance requirements as I am on Medicare. They are the only recovery facility that accepts Medicare on the West Coast. I was told to bring my own pillow & blanket & was given a time that a driver from the facility would come to pick me up to take me to HVRC. Drive to facility & intake: Donnie, the driver, relieved my worries with water, gum, mints and a peaceful drive to the center. He was able to answer any of my general questions with a calm demeanor. Arriving at the center, I walked through the intake forms, insurance paperwork, general overview of detox, & expectations of the recovery program. Detox: Supportive Dr. Raja, skilled nursing staff, hospital meals that were tailored to my specific nutritional needs & wants, space in my room to sleep, heal & detoxify my body, I felt confident in my ability to get started on my recovery journey. The proximity to the local emergency room also put me at ease if I needed a higher level of care due to my complex medical issues. Counselors: All patients are assigned a counselor. They check in with you on your mood, individual situations, & progress of your rehabilitation process. They are kind, compassionate & loving humans. Classes: Daily schedules have a variety of holistic rehabilitation classes. Anything from lectures, experiential groups, healthy lifestyles, meditations, yoga, Native American talking circles, NA/AA meetings, recovery planning, Men & Women's groups, Just for Today talks, arts & crafts, HVRC has it. The best class is "Pain Group" with Sherry Burditt, RN, HN-BC (AHNA Board Certified Holistic Nurse) for 5 weeks, 9 hours a week, 45 hours total. It's a progressive learning experience class that allowed me to use self-discovery, emotional healing & spiritual growth to face past demons, learn about my own energy (Chakras), & love myself again. Hands down the best learning experience about myself I have ever done (& continue to do as part of my personal recovery plan). HVRC Community: For nearly 90 days, I was immersed in the HVRC family. From the people you share your days & nights with, along with your thoughts, feelings, assignments & food, to the nursing staff, counselors, administrative staff, drivers, the house senior residents/house managers to daily HVRC volunteers, people are supportive, kind & are there to do what is best for mankind: sustain an environment of caring, client-first vibes. PHP (partial-hospital patients): Having lived in both the female sober-living houses, Mayberry & Harbor, both provide a calm and healing environment to spend time while not at the center. I have fond memories of van rides full of people to & from the center, quick trips to the ATM or appointments, & AA meetings & Soboba's talking circle. Outings: Nails/pedicures, haircuts, AA meetings, doctor appointments/imaging, ATM runs, Soboba talking circle. Family Weekend: AMAZING experience. Run by Lisa, it is a weekend of family & loved ones learning about addiction. Not just the disease itself, but how to support their loved one in & out of treatment, expectations of their loved one coming home, & a session for me & my family to start the healing process moving forward. Continuing care & Alumni meetings: Thursday nights: an in-person continuing care program that supports HVRC alumni. Counselors offer support in multiple ways. After is the Alumni in-person/Zoom AA/NA meeting. My favorite night to attend a meeting & connect with so many others who are going through the same thing that I am: staying clean & sober in my recovery. HVRC Alumni events: President Jeff does a GREAT job of promoting where the donated money goes. From helping clients with prescriptions, housing & other necessities, to creating joy for clients and staff with auction baskets, sit-down dinners, arts & crafts, hiding Easter eggs & Sam the Leprechaun, supplying treats to buy at the Alumni store, cookouts, individual gifts, Veteran recognitions, & more!! HVRC Alumni is a space for us to stay connected by volunteering, supplying resources or giving money to a great cause year-round. I just can't say enough good things about my recovery & experience from Hemet Valley Recovery Center. Just celebrated 6 months. I thank both my Higher Power & HVRC for being clean & sober today.
