Delta is a great place to go to if your transferring or wanting join a vocational program. It's a lot easier to get into upper division courses than G.E. Unfortunately with budget cuts the selection of classes is limited in certain departments or only offered once a year. Be sure to take advantage of the computer labs, writing center, math/science center, and tutors. They actually know what they're talking about and explain things pretty well. Personally I took time off from school and now ready to transfer have gotten into every class I need easily. read more

My experience with the professors has been generally good but that is where the positive ends sadly. On the one hand its clear they have a need for more funding but on the other hand they also deserve a MASSIVE funding cut. The administration of Delta college is a bloated bureaucratic nightmare where the left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing. The admissions/ records office and especially the FA office is filled with rude, lazy staff that resort to their NPC response of "Oh we don't do that here". This is my first semester and already I've faced the potential of having to drop out do to zero support from the financial aid department. I've done everything required of me but getting them to lift a finger to take care of stuff on their end is like pulling teeth. I wondered if it was just me experiencing these issues but seeing their Yelp page confirms that its a systemic problem. Very disheartening. I write this review knowing nobody at the school in a position to make changes will read it so instead I write this as a warning to current and potential students. My best advice to potential students is document every correspondence with school employees, CC the director of the respective department you are contacting and follow up every few days. read more

The wait time here is terrible to get a hold of a counselor. They say they accept drop ins but then tell you they're full. Even if you try to book an appointment they're never online to book. If you do manage to get a hold of someone they tell you that you need to wait a week before you can even schedule! Terrible. read more

I recently started classes here and went to the financial aid office for help, but received no assistance. The older Spanish woman with curly hair I spoke with seemed uninterested and more eager to get to lunch than to help me. I explained that I couldn't afford my classes and also mentioned that I had a previous defaulted loan, hoping she could guide me on possible options or resources. Despite this, she offered no help, no suggestions, and no support. Instead of leaving with hope or direction, I left feeling completely hopeless like I wasn't worthy of an education. I was so discouraged that I left the office in tears. At the time, I was already attending two classes and about to start two more, but without help, I couldn't afford the books or other expenses. Feeling dismissed, unsupported, and defeated, I withdrew from all my classes immediately after that meeting. read more

The teachers here are great! However, I've been having a problem with the financial aid office since 2022. I have not been able to receive my FASFA, I have been in and out of their office, they tell me that I can just email them. Yet, when I email I don't hear any responses back. So I reached out via email yet again and it is the same thing. I even sent them receipts of our last emails and no response besides asking for my student id and DOB which was provided in the last email. Classes are challenging to an extent, but whenever you want to make a counseling appointment on the phone they do not answer whatsoever. Instead you either have to go early in the morning and try to score an appointment which might be challenging as many other people are doing the same thing, or you have to talk to an automated bot and wait two hours in line online, just to try to make an appointment with your counselor, only if your computer doesn't turn off or an error doesn't occur will you finally be able to make an appointment. read more

I was quoted 9 months for a transcript evaluation . (Which shocked me!) 10 months in, and it still isn't done. I haven't been able to get any updates on it either. I was accepted into a program here at Delta, which I've already taken some classes for. I was really excited about it. But I need to know ASAP if several courses I took at MJC are going to transfer over. If they don't, I likely won't continue with this program, because it'll take too much time to retake all of those courses. It has been impossible to get a counseling appointment, nobody will call me back. The whole thing has been a headache, and it has me questioning if I really want to be putting so much time, money, and effort into a college that doesn't seem to be running very efficiently. read more

Delta is a blessing in Stockton. It has its pros and cons but overall I'd highly recommend anyone to go there. Especially if you're fresh out of high school and don't know what to study. Sadly, I have been going to Delta on and off since 2011. I have received several Certificates from this college and decided to to finish up my AS in Accounting. I got everything set up, went back through Admissions and got my Financial Aid going. A lot had changed since I previously did classes. I did one of the "what if" reports to see exactly what I would need to fulfill my requirements. I enrolled in classes using their online function, "enroll based on required courses". It only showed that I was required to take one class. I decided to also enroll in two other classes to brush up on a few things. I was able to apply for graduation this Spring. Everything showed satisfied and that I would graduate with honors. My degree was denied. Even though, everything online was showing as satisfied, they are now telling me that I have to take 2 more classes. How frustrating! Not only, could I have taken those courses during my last semester instead of the two courses I was brushing up on, it wasted part of my financial aid and now more of my time. I put in several requests to see what was going on and it took several weeks to get any sort of an answer, only to be told that the requirements have changed. Even more frustrating is that when I go online and look at the requirements, it still shows that I have satisfied all the requirements and again, gives me the option to apply for my degree. I am not sure what has changed over the years, but if I could do it over, I would definitely go somewhere else. Now I am on to looking at where I can file formal complaints. read more

Just to be clear; I completed and received my certificate of completion for the LVN; Licensed Vocational Nurse program in 2004 from Delta College. Not sure what has taken me so long to write a review; life I suspect. The LVN program was an amazing experience and it was a full-time program for one year. It was not easy but I learned so much and it turned my mind into more of a critical thinker not to be confused with being a critic. Critical thinking is a skill set that can assist a person in making well-thought-out decisions and plans. I had Patricia Noma, RN MSN and I believe she has additional credentialling behind her name and she was strict and a fantastically effective instructor. My clinical's were at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California and the OB and Obstetrics portion of the schooling was at St. Joseph's hospital; I made the right choice for me in choosing San Joaquin General Hospital as it was a teaching facility and I learned so much about the disease process and nursing. There was another instructor and due to how many years have passed since I graduated in 2004 my memory is only remembering her first name of Nenita. She was amazing as well and taught the majority of our classroom education. Tough, funny, and smart as a whip! I met one of my friends there and we went through the course together and she went on to get her RN and works as an OB nurse now and loves her career. One area I was heartbroken over and so in disbelief about was how SJDC at the time and for years later forced students to repeat courses (if you wanted to be eligible to apply for programs) due to time frames from when the course was taken to when they were applying for programs such as LVN to RN. What a gimmick and how unfair. MJC does not do this. I switched to Modesto Junior College, MJC, and have had the best experience to date. They have an amazing Disability Services department where if you qualify can be assigned a DSPS (disability services) counselor who works with you to create the most amazing Educational Plans so you know your on the correct track. Also in this department, are accommodations for those with qualifying disabilities where you can receive extra testing time and other accommodations that for me have assisted me greatly in achieving passing grades each semester. I am now an English major. I had my heart set on transitioning from LVN to RN at Delta College however their continual changing of their programs, prerequisite courses and forcing you to retake courses you originally passed to meet some new guideline wasted years of my life, but made them hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more, as they continued to change requirements; year after year. I would speak with people who endured the same type of unethical actions so I knew I wasn't alone. Modesto Junior College accepted my coursework from SJDC and has not once informed me I needed to retake courses due to the age of the course. This is how it should be as its ethical and reasonable. You don't receive much help you have to already know your path and classes yourself. The online classes seem to just be about writing papers or comments for everything it's boring. This school was decent, courses were fairly nice and most of the teachers were very kind and helpful. BUT the financial aid department of this school is the worst i've ever seen. I've called them prior to this only to sit on the phone waiting for 20 minutes and then hung up on. As well as hung up on by the people working in the financial aid office or given information that was completely false. I was homeless shortly after my parents died which caused me to drop out of my classes (before it even affected my GPA mind you). which led to me getting dropped from financial aid. I submitted it to the school in an SAP APPEAL they instantly denied me and basically shoo'd me away even though I had over a 3.0 GPA. They never gave me a notice that I was on academic probation for weeks. If you are planning to go to this school while receiving financial aid just don't, go literally anywhere else and save yourself the hassle. read more

I'm an alumni from 1999-2002. Got my AA here in "Tech Education". Anyhow, I heard this was the best JC..... in the state? I think, that's what I heard once said from a High School teacher of mines. It's a good school, great opportunity to take lower division classes offered that's equivalent and transferable to many CSUs or UCs or independent. It saves money a bit, but like they jacked up the price of units after my term. What load of bullshit from the economy that was fucked up at the time. I went here after high school rather than moving out of town to a CSU or UC. It pisses me off that Stockton doesn't have that but only UOP which they only look at bright B+ or better average students, and if your rich or out of town. I dunno that's something I heard. I was lost in terms of direction where to go, then I looked into their Cisco Certified Networking Associate Curriculum. I signed up and joined "The classes" that are come in and go whenever you feel like it, and not instructor led because Cisco tells the instructor not to. There's lecturing for "subnets" and making patch cables, and that was mainly about it. You just log onto a website and learn. You can do the same from home. But the advantage was if you passed this class with this case study final project, you get a discount voucher when it comes to taking the test. I passed of course, but I didn't do the project. I had the CCNA knowledge, but never passed the Exam (which you take somewhere else). I blew about 300 dollars taking the Exam and failing with a 'C' as the passing grade is a 'B+' Anyhow, the teachers here, or professors I should say, they're good. And this isn't high school but hella people say it is. The weightlifting gym, where I took a weightlifting class, was alright but limited to a few machines but good enough. In the "conditioning" class there were sometimes more girls than guys or about half and half so sometimes I couldn't concentrate. The Cafeteria is good and it has some good food from time to time (enjoyed the rice bowls). And its like always outside of the cafeteria hall and in front of it, is the hotspot to kick it mostly. Parking is definitely going to be a bitch sometimes especially in the morning and if your class is in the morning, but often you will find parking but just not close enough to your first class. Good to walk fast or run to class from these parking spots. But, good place to be at, to learn and refreshen some skills. And of course by now, there are new buildings and renovating., and who knows maybe new instructors. And often this college is referred to as the University across the Mall, or University by Target, or UBT. I just might want to come here again, maybe take an Auto Mechanics class if I ever will get sick and tired of putting money towards labor for a mechanic to do at a car dealership or an independent shop. read more

The HVACR and Welding instructors are great. Good luck with administration. If you need help with submitting any kind of petition, you will have to advocate constantly for yourself for anything to get done. I have been going for 4 semesters and never had any problems with the teachers, but the Interim Dean didn't want to do hardly anything because soon it would be someone else's problem. You have to push hard to get your needs met by admin and stand up for yourself or they will bully you. Chat is almost useless as you will be waiting for a response after they say "Hello. How May I help you?" Make sure you save ALL your email interactions so you have proof you have been reaching out to the correct channels and just ignored. And in live chat, click on the three dots in the upper left corner of chat to have a transcription of the chat sent to your email so you have proof you were ignored and then the chat was stopped due to lack of interaction. There aren't many options for community colleges in San Joaquin County, but that is no reason for us to have to deal with admin having a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to our education read more

i got my tuition free because of fafsa, but it's a headache trying to get any kind of help here. i transferred in 2020 with all the requirements that the counselor had told me i needed for an associate's but then last minute my account said i was deficient in credits and no one could tell me why since i passed every class. i never got my associates and i can never get a hold of anyone in 2 years who can give me a straight answer. an associate's isn't much and im done with my bachelors after transferring now so im not trippin but if it was actually something i needed it would be very inconvenient. the place honestly looks like it needs a lot of work and more professors who actually care about the students. read more

Delta College is a shining star in Stockton. You think I am joking around with you... I kid you not. In the land of Stockton where so many things seem to go wrong it seems like Delta College has gotten it right over the years. Like many people I know I went here a couple times...once to finish some high school stuff early and then again to start my GE credits for later college. The parking can be kind of a hard sell sometimes...especially if you plan on taking classes at peak times like MWF 10:30am...when everyone else and their mom does. Maybe get a class that starts earlier? The financial aid office while always pretty busy was always helpful in my quest to keep my finances down while in school and the guidance department was also very helpful in making sure the classes I was taking would transfer to my chosen institution. The school itself is really nicely laid out. For the huge amount of classrooms they have they still do a nice job on making everything work. Do yourself a favor and go find your classroom before the first day of class so you know where to go on day one. I remember many a day sitting in the quad with my friends waiting for a class in the forum to start or just hanging out by the Koi pond studying or every once in a long while studying in the actual library! Delta is a Community College...not a place to get a BA or BS...its a place where you get your AA and be done or get your early credits done and then go somewhere else. If you do one of those two things you will be happy and done. Sure there could be small improvements but you could say that about any institution in any city. Delta is pretty much just a bigger high school. Walking to class you may bump into a few friends and those few friends may be doing something other than going to class. So, of course what do I do? I kick it with them instead of taking care of my responsibilities. What can I say... School sucks. I never took this place seriously. Pulling good grades was the easy part. Actually going inside the classroom listening to the instructor was the hard part. If you can tolerate boring ass instructors go here because pulling grades is easy. There are some incredible teachers here (Dr. Ferraiolo, Dr. Sewnath, Dr. Bission, Professor Hawley, Brian Kendrick) who genuinely love teaching and will take time out of their days to give you extra instruction in their subject areas if you seem to give a crap. These professors helped to push me in the right direction (out of SJDC) and fueled my passion for learning. Why two stars then? The rest of the professors I took courses from either (and these were the vast majority) dumbed down their classes so that anybody could get an A, added their personal opinions to lecture whenever possible (thus making it impossible to learn anything but their opinions) or were so bitter and cynical that they weren't able to provide proper instruction. read more

This place is a real mixed bag. There are some excellent teachers, and there are some horrible ones. The campus has a nice layout but the facilities are falling apart. The trustees wasted mucho taxpayer money on a stupid plan to build a second campus in the wasteland of Mountain House and now the school may lose its accreditation. Fixing up the Stockton campus should have been priority #1. Some students who go here might be bound for great futures, but most of them seem to be unable to do anything else but take up space in classrooms. It kind of makes the average person (like me) feel like a genius in my classes. I like the features Delta provides to the community, such as Atherton Auditorium, the student-run restaurant, and community education for adults and for kids. As a "college" however, be forewarned about its shortcomings. read more

I always hear excuses from the staff that usually are along the lines of, "We have a lot of students and it is hard for us to get to help them as fast as they would like." This is such a terrible excuse when I attended a college, that at that time had over 10,000 more students in attendance, that was able to meet the needs of the students at such rapid rates. I also attended another college is a rural area that had 1/4 the student and much less than 1/10 the administrative staff that met every need with such expedience. The staff at Delta do not seem to be aware of what is going on with the office next to them, or what is going to happen the next day even. Getting an answer out of the staff is next to impossible, and when you do it sounds like a recorded response and when you rephrase the question you still get the same verbatim answer. This does not mean that the professors at Delta are all too horrible, in fact they are mostly all quite fantastic. I do not think that there are but a few professors that are a bit off and not quite fit to teach. One professor was asking his students to solicit child pornography and touch people uncomfortably on the shoulder to gauge their response. This did however go unheard by his dean, until a few of us students presented this info to him. We were told by the dean's office, "We do not know what our professors are doing, it is not our job to keep them in line. It is the job of the student to report to us when something is not right with the classroom or professor." That seems pretty terrible to me. Another quarrel I have with the school is the crowding in the classroom. TAKE THIS NOT AS AN EXAGGERATION! There are classrooms that are so incredibly cramped that there is less than 6 inches to walk down isles, so you have to fill up the back row by moving desks then fill to the front. What would happen in a fire, and with only one exit as well? Not up to CA fire codes. Most of the older classrooms have less than 24inches between desks which makes it impossible to get down an aisle without bumping into every student along the way. I was in a classroom that had 64 desks and 3 chairs for students while the Max Occupancy of the class (which was posted) was 48 seated. This school is in serious need of budgeting and the Trustee Board needs a pay cut; if the school is hurting so hard for money, then ask the trustees to take a cut in pay. That would mean they would not be able to buy the new year of the Mercedes SLK 600, but hey, we all have to sacrifice. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CAN HELP IT, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Delta College is an amazing school. That is not the part I have a problem with. They provide a lot of resources and make it so inexpensive to get your first two years of school done. It's really easy to obtain a certificate or AA degree. So far I haven't had any serious issues with any of my professors. The issue I have is with FINANCIAL AID. They are absolutely terrible. I went to Sacramento State for a semester and their financial aid was very helpful and would always notify me of any changes in my FA. I failed one of my semesters and completely dropped out due to a death of someone close to me. I explained that in my appeal, I got documents to support my claim, and I even had my teachers prove that I was in academic standing (All As)...now I'm entering the second semester and they said I have to complete another appeal again. And then they gave me disbursement dates on my awards and then I call and they said I will not be receiving them until my appeal is complete. They never notified me of any changes in my awards. Some people rely on their financial aid tremendously and I am one of them. It's incredibly hard out here especially as a student and a PARENT. I've been attending Delta since 2003. I think it is a decent school for anyone that is unsure of what they want to do. But don't linger there too long, or you'll never get out. The main campus is good in size. The quad always has lots of people socializing. The teachers are pretty cool. As far as the buildings, you can tell it's been worn down a bit over the years. I like the fact that it's campus has a variety of locations. They offer classes at high schools, hospitals, and other centers for the students attending from different cities. read more

I went to their campus last year with my husband for a conference on nursing careers they held, the conference was great but, that campus is not very ADA accessible, they have an elevator which was tiny but if your in a walker or wheelchair, your lucky to fit in it, there is barely room to turn let alone allow more than 2 people in it, the classrooms were by far worse, I have mobility issues and the classrooms were small and I was having a hard time getting into the classrooms with just a walker mobility device, I imagine wheelchairs are nearly impossible, I felt so uncomfortable during that conference because my walker was taking up so much room in the aisle because nobody could get by, that I opted instead to wait outside in the cold on a bench for my husband who was attending the conference lectures. This school is far from accessible! Second, my husband has been attending this school for 3 semesters, and this semester we had to pay out of pocket because during his first semester his GPA was not so great, his second semester was better but, He tried for 3 months prior to his 3rd semester to get help or any information about his PELL Grant because we are a low income family and we rely on his pell grant to get him through school, low and behold after months of no replies to phone calls, emails, and portal messages, he finally got a hold of someone through the chat portal only to find out he was disqualified for his PELL Grant because of his first semester GPA, So, he appealed it, and we have called, emailed, messaged, trying to get some sort of help so he can get information on what's going on with his appeal, and its been almost 4 months.....4 MONTHS....nobody is returning our messages, our emails, let alone phone calls!! They took the money to pay for his tuition well enough, their good at that....but helping their students when it comes to financial aid.....seems to not exist at all. His semester is almost over and he has not had ANY help from the financial aid department or the school for that matter because nobody ever picks up the phone because.....nobody is there! They left their students to just ponder and sit and wonder as to their educational future!! They dont care at all it seems like and I am truly disappointed at how they are handling the welfare of their students during this pandemic,service or help for their students was not that great before the pandemic, but since the pandemic, everyone but the teachers have disappeared into the veil of shadows never to be seen or heard from again!! I give credit to the teachers who have graciously and patiently dealt with all the students who are coming to them for answers and have kindly and patiently tried to do what they can to answer questions and help, they are to be commended, but this school as far as their handling of their students, their financial department and the handling of answering phones or helping anyones concerns, has been disappointing to say the least, and thats putting it nicely. They have fallen greatly from the once great school they used to be, I truly hope they get their stuff together and make this right for their students!! Truly shameful. read more

SJDC is an awesome school. There are many professors there that care about their students and help them succeed. In the ADN program, you have to work hard and do whatever it takes to become a nurse. It's life learning and growth experiences. If you have negative comments about instructors, welcome to the real world. I recently achieved my goal to be an RN. Delta has a great reputation for spitting out the best nurses. Because of this school, I am successful. And my instructors want "us" to succeed. Wish me luck!!! read more

I have been a student part time to full time since 2010. The professors are awesome however I cannot say the same for the Financial Aid department. I do not understand how this level of incompetence and disrespect could be acceptable or allowed. Pass the Buck... "It's being reviewed" and "You need to allow time for processing". I took all of my prerequisites prior to starting the ADN program which I finished in 2.5 semesters because I was an LPT and my years of experience were factored in. There are some shining star instructors at Delta BUT the majority in my experience lack ability to handle the students and to properly teach.Out of several classroom nursing instructors only two were actually competent.The rest were these ancient old hags who received their credentials in the 40's and had not seen a hospital unit in decades.BURN OUTS! I realized right away that I should have taken all of my transferable units at Delta and then transferred either to Sac State or Stanislaus for my BSN instead of wasting time with Delta's ADN program.It is like a factory.Avoid.Get a better education.You deserve it. read more

Not sure why Delta has so many bad reviews.... I always have gotten the classes I needed & was able to transfer to a CSU in 2 years. Teachers have been great for the most part, and the staff have always been welcoming and helpful. Really enjoyed my time here at Delta College read more
