So be aware the tick population is crazy high this year. The paths are pretty well marked and are easily walked with areas of high sun exposure and areas that are well shaded.

A beautiful hidden gem!…read more This is a peaceful park to take a stroll and look at our local wildlife. When you arrive, turn right down the gravel road into the parking lot. There is ample parking with a bathroom directly next to the lot. Walk just past the bathroom, and you will be greeted by the start of the nature trail. There are some informational bulletin boards there about the native plants and animals which makes for an interesting read! The main trail takes you under a beautiful tree cover to a fork that diverges into two other trails. The trail is completely flat until this point where there is a very slight incline. Both trails after this are flat and have beautiful views. One trail is longer and loops around 3 miles. The other, the Brush Rabbit Straight, is a little over 1 mile. The longer loop leads to a little lake and the other follows the creek. Along both trails you can find tons of wildlife. This place is huge for professional bird watching, and trust me, you will see a ton! There are rabbits and coyotes even if you don't see them, so be sure to tread lightly! If you come to visit, make sure to keep your voice down and watch out for animal scat all over the trail and enjoy your time!

It took a LONG time to get entrance into the park - like a 20-30 mins. It had potential but some problems that need to be addressed. No camp host on site, which I think is why the restrooms aren't cleaned regularly. The bathrooms are also quite the walk from most campsites. Also know it'll be warm and buggy in June. There are lots of invasive vines in the oaks, so you can't really admire the trees. Bring bug spray and your floats. Our kids liked the slow float down the river in their inner tubes.

There are miles of trails, both paved and unpaved, where you can stroll, run, and bike. It is very dog friendly too! There are some very nice fenced-in tennis courts, playgrounds, and picnic tables which make for fun for the whole family. If you are into disc golf, there is a huge course throughout the park. Some of the baskets are placed right on the creek's edge, so you have to make sure you have good aim! There are some pretty bridges that overlook the creek and make for gorgeous photos when the leaves turn in fall. At the trailhead at East La Loma Park, there is a large parking lot with parking along the leading road. Even though there is plenty of light along the trail, I would avoid coming by after dark because the area can attract some homeless people. Regardless, this is a great park and community asset!

The other park in town with a large splash pad area is large enough that I felt the need to follow my kiddos around. The picnic areas here are way nicer because they have good established shade. And, for potty training parents - the bathrooms are literally right there. Across the large flat field (perfect if you want to play soccer) there was adult exercise equipment, basketball courts, and tennis courts. They even had a handicap swing and one of those cool ones for both baby and an older rider, that face eachother. 10/10 reccomend this park! As we got into early afternoon, the park got super busy and there were lots of rough older kids. We decided that the crowd was getting a little too rough for our littles so we decided it was time to go. I would say that if you have toddlers, morning hours are best before it gets super crowded.

It's near an elementary school but not as close with a whole grass field between. The pathway that's between the school and park is wide and shady, filled with places to sit, workout and eat. There is a restroom at the park and on the Slate Street side closer to the school. The water splash pads runs continuously during the day in the summer because the water is recycled and filtered. They have city workers that check up the area regularly. I see them in the mornings when I go for a walk sometimes. They added a new pergola type area next to the tennis courts. More tables to enjoy and a bbq pit I believe The parking is pretty much street parking but it seems that a lot of the visitors are from the area so they most likely walk to it. What I love about this park is the non bark/sandy area! So easy to take my 1 to and she can't put anything in her mouth because the ground is made of that rubber bouncy material. There's a toddler play area, and then a bigger kids one. Clean tables, with plenty of trash cans. There are no bathrooms the only negative. If you are in the area and have little ones definitely should get out and get some outdoor time here.
