In memory of 2,495 Californians who gave their lives fighting in the Korean War.

I guess saying it's a nice place to visit would be the wrong words, since it is a cemetery. We've driven by here on the I-5 for years, we always thought this was a memorial for Korean War Veterans not an actual cemetery. We were a little surprised. But the memorial part was very nice. Grateful to all veterans who have served past, present and future.

Such an honor to have my grandfather buried here. The ceremony that took place was absolutely beautiful and the location was great. The cemetery is in Santa Nella and right near the mountains. Nice backdrop but a little bit on the windy side...so bring a light sweater (and a hair clip for us longed-hair ladies). You can tell the men performing the ceremony really take pride it what they do and gave the upmost respect to my family. It was definitely a comforting moment to experience and I'm sure really made my grandfather proud.

My father-in-law, Dan C. Barksdale Sr, is interned here. Dan was an Army man. He was in the calvery back when they rode horses from Monterey to Salinas. He ended his Army career serving in Korea. He rest here among the dry, steep rolling hill area of the California valley near Santa Nella. Sparse native oaks and almond orchards characterize the surrounding landscape. Native grasses grow for ground cover in the burial areas. The California Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated Aug. 1, 1998. The memorial is a composition of 16 individual granite five-foot monoliths arranged to form a circle. Each monolith contains the names of 2,495 Californians who gave their life fighting in the Korean War. The memorial was sponsored by a number of veteran service organizations, individuals and corporations. The 11th Airborne Memorial is a granite and bronze monument that was dedicated on May 11, 2002, in honor of all airborne soldiers. The sculptor was William Porteus, a member of the 511th unit. back to top Dan loved California and he picked this spot for his final rest.

Worth noting: you are on long train with 3-4 different experiences and it seems you get different things depending on what you paid for. The my may have a tea, beer train, wine train, etc. We were in the back of the train and got the slowest service and stuck in a car with no AC. Ended up on the open air car and it was nicer. you might be better off paying for the base price; buy a drink or two and call it a day. Don't expect gourmet food here; bring a picnic and eat outside before/after your trip.

Boba Tea train: There were a number of issues with this…read moreexcursion. First off, most of the tea samples came with little to no ice and were somewhat warm. This made some of the undrinkable. Others were somewhat warm cloyingly sweet as to be unpleasant. Overall, though both of us are fans of boba tea- we would suggest a different vendor or more training for the staff preparing the samples. Roughly half of the flavors were not good at all. Additionally, they listed "boozy" flavors on the menu but never said anything about how to get those or whether they were included. Second problem- we preordered dumplings as did apparently a LOT of people. There were no dumplings on the train, only rice bowls. Furthermore- the waitress didn't know what we were talking about when we mentioned having preordered food. At least half of the tables in our car had preordered dumplings and were very disappointed. There was no information on how to obtain a refund if we didn't want the substitute of a rice bowl. About halfway through our trip, the train lost power which included lights, air conditioning, and the ability to flush toilets. Power stayed off with no explanation for more than 15 minutes, causing the car to become very warm and stuffy. Overall, this excursion suffered from lack of communication, lack of staff training, lack of preparation on the part of the organizers. Given the cost, I would not recommend this.

In October 2021 I took a ride with Five Emerald Limousine with my family. The day started off fine, but ended terribly. We left our last spot of the day around 3pm, providing a specific address for our final destination. After a few minutes we noticed we were going the wrong way and brought this up to our driver. He told us he was following the GPS and that it was the right way. A few minutes later we were no longer on a road, but on loose gravel path. At this time we asked to turn around. Our driver agreed, stating he was going to pull up a little more and then turn around. Our driver decided to turn around on a long grass hill (just past a loose gravel turnaround). The limo got stuck and at that time we got out of the limo because it felt dangerous. It was a good thing we did become as the driver was trying to reverse the limo, the grass underneath the limo caught on fire. We had noticed a fire extinguisher in the car on our ride up, so we went to get it to put the fire out, but the doors to the limo were locked. We banged on the windows profusely for what felt like minutes. The driver finally unlocked the doors, we put the fire out and then the driver came out of the limo discombobulated and in a haze from the fumes. A few key takeaways from this experience... 1. SAFETY. We truly could have been seriously injured if we had not insisted on getting out of the limo while the driver turned around on a hill (I can't help but think about the unfortunate events of when people have died inside limos with locked doors when fires have taken place ). 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE. As the sun was starting to go down and we were waiting for another car that the driver told us was coming (which never came). I called the limo service phone number provided just to ensure they were aware of what was going on and that another car was truly on it's way. I was faced with attitude and dismissal. It wasn't until I advocated for myself and informed him that the winery we were at in Saint Helena had called the Fire Department and CHP to look into this matter because no car should have been where we were AND that the winery we had visited us felt terrible for us that went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure we had ride since we were stranded. It wasn't until that that the individual from Five Emerald Limo said a manager would be calling me. 3. FOLLOW THROUGH. I was offered a free ride (see attachment text message). When I initially received this offer, I wasn't comfortable taking it because I wasn't comfortable getting in another Five Emerald Limo. However, after some time I thought I would give it another shot, sometimes people and companies deserve a second chance. Unfortunately when I reached back out on this offer, the fine print (that wasn't included in this text message) was shared and I was informed that the free ride would only be to the Airport (10 minutes away) and that it would not be the same free ride I had initially taken (bay area to Saint Helena). The manager went back on her word and to me after a situation like this, that is unacceptable.
