In the context of this review, I would like to provide some background information. I had a friend…read morewho recently purchased an Alpine ILx509 halo head unit, AudioControl D-5.1300D Series 5-channel amplifier, and a JL Audio 10TW3-D4 10" subwoofer in a JL Stealth Box for his 2023 Toyota Pro. He had previously sold his 4Runner for an F250 and had all of these brand-new and almost plug-and-play components. There were a few Maestro units that I had to use to utilize some of the stock controls. Additionally, one item was defective and brand new, and they were able to get it warrantied. They also had to reflash my Maestro RR because it was specified to a JBL audio system and had to be a non-JBL system. Previously, I had upgraded the stock speakers with Focal all around. I visited CA Car Sounds and informed them about my requirements. It took a few trips to determine if I needed any additional components that were not already installed. They provided me with a quote, which was reasonable given the complexity of the work. They mentioned that they would need the vehicle for 1-2 days, which was acceptable to me. I wanted the work to be completed without any rush. My specific needs were to have the amplifier bolted to a plate under the passenger seat and to avoid bolting the amplifier to the floorboard if possible. I also wanted to use the same SiriusXM stock antenna on my vehicle and retain my stock microphone as well as the steering wheel controls. I was somewhat apprehensive about how the setup would sound, but I was assured by Raymond, Austin, and others that I would not be disappointed with the Stealth box and the subwoofer. When I picked up my vehicle, Raymond accompanied me through the controls and demonstrated how it sounded. I was thoroughly satisfied. Everything looked and sounded excellent. They met my needs and addressed my concerns. The quality of work they put into customers' cars is exceptional. I would like to say thank you to Raymond, Austin and their installers

I worked with California Car Sounds to plan an installation of Focal speakers in my truck. We…read morediscussed the setup in advance and agreed on a specific product and installation plan. When I dropped the truck off and later picked it up, I was told after the fact that they had installed a completely different set of speakers because the Focal speakers I had purchased were back ordered by about a week. Instead of calling or texting to ask whether I wanted to wait or reschedule, the shop decided on its own to install a different brand and type of speaker without my consent. This is not acceptable. As a result, I had them remove everything and return the truck to stock. My weekend was spent shuttling the truck back and forth, the door panels were removed twice, and I am left exactly where I started weeks ago except with wasted time and frustration. What is hardest to understand is the decision making process. There was no phone call, text, or email before making a material change to the agreed upon work. Installing a different product without customer approval is baffling. Unfortunately, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

They ran a full diagnostic and quickly figured out what was wrong. They explained that the previous company had used the wrong installation materials, which caused the problem. I was also told they installed an amp which I wasn't aware of. I decided to purchase a JBL sub from them, and they installed it correctly. It sounds amazing now! Huge thank you to JR for taking the time to explain everything clearly and for making sure all the issues were properly fixed. I really appreciate the great service! Will return!

I have been a customer of this shop for approximately 12 years and have brought several vehicles…read morehere over that time--at least four or five different vehicles. Because of that history, it's disappointing to say that I will never return. Over the years, I have used their services primarily for window tinting and, on one occasion, for the installation of a subwoofer and amplifier in my 2021 Lexus IS. The quality of the work itself was generally acceptable and appeared clean and professional. However, communication, customer service, and turnaround times were consistently poor. My final experience was with my brand-new 2024 Lexus RX 350. During the tint installation, the technician performing the work was careless and repeatedly soaked the interior door panel with water. When I politely expressed concern about it, instead of addressing the issue professionally, he became argumentative and confrontational. To make matters worse, management did nothing to resolve the situation or address my concerns. What left the worst impression was that the technician then closed the garage door, preventing me from observing the work being performed on my vehicle. As a customer entrusting a brand-new luxury vehicle to a business, I found this behavior unprofessional and concerning. After more than a decade of being a loyal customer and bringing multiple vehicles to this shop, I expected far better treatment. Unfortunately, due to the poor customer service, lack of accountability, and overall experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this business to others.

Mike and his technician team at Top Notch Tunes were incredible to work with. From start to finish,…read morethey were professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about making sure I got exactly what I wanted. They took the time to explain everything, answered all my questions, and never made me feel pressured. The install was super clean and professional, and the sound quality is unbelievable. Everything sounds crystal clear and the bass hits perfectly. You can tell Mike and his team take a lot of pride in their work and treat your car like it is their own. What really stood out was that even a year and a half later, when something sounded a little off, Mike was there for me right away and made sure everything was taken care of. That level of customer service is hard to find these days. If you are looking for someone to upgrade your audio system, I highly recommend Mike and the team at Top Notch Tunes. Great customer service, great work, and great results.

I paid this installer $150 per hour to install my car audio system. While the system functions, I…read morewas disappointed with several aspects of the installation quality and attention to detail. The amplifiers were mounted inside the wheel well area, but when it came time to reinstall the trunk floor cover, it would not sit flat because the amplifiers were mounted too high. Instead of redesigning the installation so everything fit properly, the subwoofer enclosure had to be forced into the trunk, leaving a noticeable hump in the trunk floor. For a professional installation, I expected all factory panels and covers to fit correctly when the work was completed. I am also concerned about the amplifier placement because the amplifiers become very hot after driving on warm days. While I understand that amplifiers generate heat, mounting them in a confined area with limited airflow does not seem ideal for long-term reliability. Another concern is the grounding configuration. The capacitor was grounded directly to the battery, and both amplifiers were grounded through the capacitor rather than using a local chassis ground. While there may be technical reasons for this approach, it was never explained to me, and it differs from what many installers typically do in trunk-mounted systems. Better communication regarding the design choices would have been appreciated. Overall, the system works, but the fitment issues, equipment placement, and lack of attention to the finished appearance left me disappointed. For the price charged, I expected a cleaner installation, proper fitment of the factory trunk components, and a more professional final result.
