AA Exteriors was also one of the only companies willing to find a solution creating a roof that seamlessly blended and fused into my existing build for a reasonable price. Nick and his crew definitely delivered, and they were out on the job site from start to finish. While the permitting process through Anne Arundel County took a while and was by far the most difficult part, Nick worked quickly and efficiently on everything he could control including the: planning/design, demo, foundation build, decking boards, roof construction, screening, and punch out work. Through each step of the process, Nick kept the work area clean and I never felt like my dogs were at risk of injury when letting them outside to go to the bathroom. During the job, Nick made some excellent recommendations including recessed lighting around the roof of the porch and using decking boards instead of lattice to close in the deck. He also handled some extra tasks like cleaning the gutters, power washing the siding, laying down mulch and grass seed, and planting shrubbery. It's an old house, with a tight space, and an endless amount of obstacles to overcome in order to pull it off. We interviewed about 6 contractors and collected a number of quotes. A few contractors were not up to the task, while a few came back with either extraordinarily high or absurdly low quotes- and all of them had wonky solutions that seemed impractical. Then came Dominic. Dominic came in with a creative mind. His experience and expertise allowed him to problem solve and come up with a fantastic solution that met all of our needs, and more wants that we could've hoped for. Even more, his quote made sense. He wasn't the cheapest, or the most expensive, but he was fair. Due to a medical issue, there was a massive delay on our end getting started, yet Dominic remained flexible. Once we were finally underway, I was floored at how quickly he and his team worked. They showed up every day, on time, and worked precisely and efficiently. We were dreading having people in our home for several weeks, but his team was lovely to have around! They were polite, kind, helpful, and most importantly, skilled. I was working on several side projects (painting, refinishing cabinets, etc) and they always jumped in to help if they saw me struggling to carry something or lift something heavy. Every day they left the space cleaner than they found it. Not only are they skilled, it is clear they have an incredible work ethic and are just kind people. During the project, we wanted to change the scope a few times by adding in some flooring and a few other things that shifted the project a bit. Once again, Dominic remained flexible. He was there to offer advice- both in helping us stay within budget, while not compromising quality. And despite expanding the scope mid-project, he and his team only needed a few additional days to complete those requests. I've never hired a contractor for this scale of project before and I've heard all of the nightmares about poor quality work, lack of communication, surprise project fees, and delays in completion. We experience none of that with Top Notch Contractors. Dominic and his team delivered everything they promised and more. There were no billing surprises at the end of the project and even though we were satisfied with everything, he and his team were still touching up little things as they were walking out of the door. If you're looking for the Goldilocks of contractors- one who is skilled, fairly priced, and delivers on their promises, you can't go wrong with Dominic at Top Notch Contractors. We are nervous homeowners. We took off work to be there. Unlike other construction we have used, Creative has only ONE crew that installs. That weight is on the ONE foreman who will have to take off work unexpectedly. No one showed. #2 - Calls the day of. We were called the morning of and asked "Can they come today?" We felt this "same day" scheduling was very erratic, compared to what we experienced with this company before. #3 - Customers - mark your wires and inform your adjuster. Your buried internet and automower wires are not marked by the Utility company. Inform your adjuster so he/she can help you get these marked. The 3-star rating was a 1-star. The company took time to speak with us about the issues, so we are showing some teamwork. Gary has been there for decades and knows his stuff. The management here - doesn't have time for conversation or empathy. They will throw the paper work back in at you, and you can see that response in their comments to reviews here. Sometime everything legal isn't moral/correct. We aren't sure we will use them again. It just seems sloppy and unorganized for our type of property ownership. I'm sure it would work great for other types of homeowners.

I addressed the need for good communication prior to signing the contract. I was assured this was not the case, that people are just bitter, and I was assured good teamwork. Well...Communication was HORRIBLE. Job was supposed to be done in 3-4 days, took over a month to build my fence (from first dig until completion). Excuses included: our guy unexpectedly left the country for the month, our machines broke down, we realized we didn't have the parts (tied a plastic bag around the gate instead of a latch and left without talking to me), we need to come back and dig bigger holes (fence came dissembled and parts leaned), broke a pool pipe and needed to order. When I spoke to Jim and stated that I was at the point of writing a poor review. He replied, "Well, when it rains it pours; Some customers have good experiences." I met the project manager 3 WEEKS after initiating the job because I went outside to talk to them. Project manager NEVER knocked on my door or reached out to communicate these problems or delays. Returning calls were always a different person and it took over a week to respond to emails unless I mentioned BBB. I informed them that I wanted to discuss the final payment. They returned my call while I was out of town for the holidays and then charged my cc without my consent. Again, do not recommend!

Zanks construction completed my home repairs which included: replacement of 12 fence post;…read morerepairing and/or replacing the front fence and gate; installing a new roof; installing leaf guards; reattaching existing gutter guards and rain spouts; replacement of missing elbows and ground extensions to the rain spouts, and removal of my shed. Prior to the start of the repairs, the owner, Dan Zankowitz, sent me a written estimate which totaled $11,073. We entered the contract via a verbal agreement that I'd pay $4500 when my first insurance check arrived, and the balance upon completion. I was informed the work would take 1 week. The work took an additional week, and included one day of his workers repairing an improperly reattached fence. I received a new invoice for an additional $2477, which I never agreed upon paying and which was presented to me until the last day of repairs. Dan Zankowitz made several unsuccessful attempts to submit a supplemental claim for $2477 to my insurance company, which they denied due to invalid explanations and proof of work completed. Furthermore, I never agreed, neither in writing or verbally, to pay any additional amounts. And he never informed me of additional charges, until the last day of the home improvements. These claims were fraudulent, and included work and material which was already agreed upon in our initial agreement. Dan came out to complete the additional issues. I wrote him a check, and told him I could pay the $1000 balance via credit card. He stated that was fine, to contact the office. After reaching out to Zanks several times with no response. I received an email stating I was now responsible for this denied supplemental claim of $2477. I went thru each line of our original contract showing proof that what he was attempting to charge me for, was in fact included in the original estimate. He did not respond to my email, which dissected his supplemental claim line by line comparing the items listed on the supplemental claim to the items listed on the initial estimate. I made attempts to pay the remaining balance, with no returned emails or calls. I received a letter from a collection agency stating Zanks Construction had placed my account with them, for $3477. This is unprofessional and fraudulent. The work he completed was all part of our initial estimate/agreement. I have written proof of all of our correspondence. His underhanded way of attempting to get more money is completely unprofessional, and furthermore shows how dishonest he is as a businessman. It was a horrible mistake to hire Zanks construction to complete my home repairs, and this situation as caused an additional amount of stress on an already stressful situation. I now have to fight a collection agency over fraudulent charges. Do not hire this company for home or business improvement. It isn't worth the hassle!! He talks a "good game" but lacks integrity. I initially decided against writing a negative review for Zanks construction in April, but after receiving the collection letter I realized that I needed to warn other consumers.
