This place is an oasis of style and charm and brings a whole vibe to decorating your house that we didn't know we needed until we were there. Asheville has no shortage of magical spaces that kind of transcend space/time when you wander them. This one is a doozy! Walk down the stone earth entry to the grotto below and tell me you didn't just schloop through an unseen hole in the veil only to emerge into someplace much further than it looked from "out there." It's like the TARDIS of nurseries, it's bigger on the inside. A bit north of UNC Asheville on Merrimon, the only negative thing that I could mention is that parking is a little tight and close to that road, but that's a pretty common gripe in the 828, but I had to mention it for credibility. I mean this is a Yelp! review fercryinoutloud it can't all be pixies and rainbows. They have pots. And plants. Indoor and outdoor types. Annuals and perennials. Gifts and creativity abound, if you can abide. The staff that I encountered were big on hospitality, helpfulness, and that Southern Appalachian humility that I respectfully embrace. We left with a giant clay pot and a half-price Aloe that is entering the rehabilitation porch at home tomorrow at sun-up. we bought a couch here a year ago. within about a month the fabric had gotten really pilly. I…read morecalled the shop and was told by Betsy that was normal and that i could use a fabric shaver to remove the pilling and that I might have to do so three or four times and then it would stop. She sent me a fabric shaver which was nice. Well here we are a year and many shaves later and it continues to pill. it looks pretty terrible, like an old worn out couch - much worse than the (ripped) twenty year old couch we were replacing. I'm embarrassed to have friends over. when I do, we have to spend 30 minutes shaving the couch first, which is ridiculous. I hate to throw good money after bad but I suppose I will - we're planning to have the cushions recovered. It's not ideal since obviously they can't match the rest of the couch and that's not really the look I'm going for. But it's better than tossing it and starting over. I reached out to Four Corners recently to politely recommend they not sell this fabric (I feel bad for anyone else who might select it) and got no reply. So, I guess thats the kind of establishment this is. Disappointing - I prefer to shop independent but in this case it sure wasn't a good choice.

Rachel, the owner and her crew are so warm and friendly. You'll find them greet you when you enter and always happy to assist you, The Cottage Door continues to be an upscale consignment shop as they are selective. This being said, gently used vintage and modern clothing, shoes, jewelry, choctchkies, along with antique items too. Oh and furniture!!! Always beautiful furniture in this shop. Everything is clean and well organized, unlike many thrift stores I've been to. Prices and consignment pay out are both very fair. The store is lovely and so fun to meander through. One wont need to sift and sort through items which really makes the shopping experience a pleasure. You'll see items that you've never seen before and are so interesting! So if you haven't been to The Cottage Door you are missing out! I highly recommend if you love beautiful things and a good deal!
