(Note: I emailed a draft of the review below to the company and asked for their feedback prior to posting. I'm posting this review after one week and no response from the company.) I sent an email inquiry after the newspaper said this company was looking for extras for the movie "Joyride" filming in New Orleans in January 2022. Someone named Kirstie texted me shortly after. Her text listed 9 dates and told me to let her know ASAP if I was interested and could work those dates; she also said be prepared to work at least 4 dates in between. I told her I needed to confirm schedule changes and would text her back the next day. I made several major changes to my schedule to clear availability and texted her back the following morning to confirm that I was still interested and my schedule was open. I didn't receive a response. After the weekend, I sent a second text asking for an update. No response. I then emailed the main office to ask if there were any updates. They said they were sorry for the delay but were extremely busy, and production picked another person for the role. They also said that they would have several more parts open but never contacted me again. I am understanding that production picked another person for the role. I am less understanding that Kirstie made what appeared to be an offer via text, caused me to change my schedule substantially, and then ghosted me. She should have clarified in her text that it was not a firm offer before I cleared my schedule and that the final decision would be made by production. Also, it only takes seconds to respond to a text. At a minimum, she should have responded to my texts once she knew another person had the part. My experience with this company is that they lack transparency, clear communication, and common courtesy for the people they are hiring. read more

Sande Alessi Casting staff was extremely nice and helpful when I questioned them about a casting through actor's access breakdown for a 1920's feature that required to be nude. i.e, THIS PROJECT CONTAINS NUDITY. FOR FURTHER DETAILS PLEASE CONTACT THE CASTING DIRECTOR. They hopefully will assure me that is a requirement and that the Oscar winning director is also reputable. Stay safe. read more

I disagree with any negative posts about Sande. Look if you are background, it is not just the job of the background company to get u work. U must consistently update your portfolio and look so you can have the opportunity for more work. I was with Sande back when she was with the extras casting guild and a few years after. Because of her I was able to have a great living and achieved all SAG vouchers within a year of busting my ass off. In today's market it is much harder to get work, even as a background artist. You must think outside the box so you are consistently ahead of the game. I would recommend Her casting agency as well as Jeff Olan and Central Casting. Keep yourself educated. read more

I met Sande while working on Enemy of the State. The accounting office where I worked was right across from Sande's office. She was always very friendly and focused on business. After shooting was done on Enemy, I get a call. It's Sande! "Hey Milton, what are you doing? Wanna be in a movie?" And, just like that, she put me in Fight Club as an extra. Great experience! Some of the reviews here insist that the bad experiences are the background actors' faults and not Sande Alessi's. This sentiment is unfair and completely false. Sande claims to be the 2nd biggest background casting agency in the US and if this is true I have no idea how this came to be. In my experience, they are consistently unprofessional, non-communicative, and crappy towards artists in general. I was booked on a 4-day recall recently about a month in advance. It was originally 3 days out of the week, but Tina checked my availability for an additional day. I'm nonunion and I work a day job so I made sure to have that whole week free. You can imagine how frustrating it was when the next time I heard from Tina was a day before the shoot to tell me the recall had been cancelled. She wasn't rude about it, but she gave me the news like I had done something wrong or gotten incorrect information. I assure you I always strive to be the best background artist. I follow up when I'm supposed to and arrive to set early with several wardrobe options. She apologized and told me that she'd make it up to me by booking me for other work. I didn't expect to hear back from her and I was right. This was my worst and last experience with them, but previous jobs always had something go wrong and my friends in background say they same. Sande doesn't send out info when they say they're going to and then spam their Facebook feed with snide posts about "professionalism." I'm not saying their aren't bad background people in this business, but that's hardly the full problem. I've since unsubscribed from their misspelled, antagonistic, and poorly-worded Facebook posts that occasionally try to sell a friend's cat or car (just seems like an odd place on a forum where people are trying to find extra work). If you're new to background, stick with Jeff Olan and Central Casting. If you do your job and try to do it well, you're entitled to respect since as a background artist-- especially nonunion, you're at the bottom of the set hierarchy anyway. If you're in with Sande and get consistent work with them, I'm happy for you. But please don't insist our misfortune is because of our portfolio or poor work ethic. Being professional and responsible goes both ways and I almost never saw it coming from their direction. read more

This is as good as it gets, if you're an actor, looking for work as background, or occasional bit parts, and specialty parts like stand-in work. It's not as big as Central Casting, so you won't feel like a number, and Sande, Kristan, and the team do a very efficient and thorough job of making sure you know what to expect before you go to work. They won't try to upsell you on headshots, and they won't charge you a fee to register for work (this was made illegal in the Los Angeles area, thanks to OTHER casting agencies that did this). If you go in to register, be on time, know your sizes, and know that the Sherman Oaks location has some free street parking, but bring a few quarters just in case. Don't park in the building's lot unless you're on staff. Do call in to check the line for immediate work, but in my opinion, it's better to check their website for open calls beforehand. They are doing so well, (in early 2013) they are also expanding to the east coast. Best to call and listen to the recorded line before dropping by, and their staff may be out of town while setting up their new branch. read more

An amazing company to get the opportunity to work with. If you work hard and are reliable they will do good on you. I have worked so many awesome jobs with Sande these last two years I've been acting. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to get some experience working in the industry. Last night I was working a job as a featured extra and ended up getting a line and upgraded to a principal day player! It was amazing I got to act with actors Joaquin Phoenix and Jack Black, such an amazing experience! It really happens, people do get upgraded and it all thanks to Sande and her crew. This company doesn't quite meet industry standards. They are unorganized, don't provide details timely, & the worst is that they try to get away with not paying their talent. Warning: If you work with them, keep proof. Else you may not get paid. Of my 9 yrs in the business, I would say they are the worst in every way. I refuse to accept work through them. read more

Worked one day in Palmdale and was recalled to work the next day. When I arrived they told me that I wasn't recalled. Every PA gave me serious attitude and wouldn't let me speak to anyone about it. Couldn't even get reimbursed for my drive way the eff out to Palmdale. I wouldn't waste my time with Sande Alessi or anyone who works for her. read more

Sande Alessi were in Boston for a while. I have to say they were very fair in their casting. Because of the limited work in Boston, a lot of the local agencies cast their 'favorites'. Sande Alessi didn't have any favorites and cast by specs. Because of Sande Alessi, I and many other got opportunities we otherwise would not have.
