If you have ever…read moredriven on Briley near Opry Mills, then you have seen either the water park or pedestrian bridge, both of which are just a small part of what makes Two Rivers Park such a cool spot! The main draw of Two Rivers for me is the Greenway trails and of course the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Cumberland river and provides gorgeous views and a solid backdrop for a walk. The trails at Two Rivers are some of the most active in the city as at any given time of the day there are folks walking, blading, biking, jogging, etc...I spend most of my time when at the park on the greenway, it's well kept, well maintained, clean and peaceful. Outside of the trails, the park features a skate park, the water park, a golf course and a few other activity based areas. They also have a lot of public space and gazebos you can rent for parties and such. The park is huge, so you can access it from several areas from Briley, McGavock or Shelby Bottoms. The main entrance is just off of Briley, which is where I usually go, as parking is plentiful and it is a good start/stop point when hitting the greenway...plus the pedestrian bridge is right there! There were quite a few people in the park, just enjoying the park. We need parks. We need parks both as a community and individually. We need a place where we as a community can gather in recreation. We need a place to escape the asphalt and steel of the world that we created and retreat back to the world as we as a species found it. We need these plots of unblemished nature. We need it and our souls need it. Overall, I will give Whitsett Park five stars and if you find yourself in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by Whitsett Park. I am confident that you will enjoy this particular park. Go check it out yourself, even if to unwind for just a little while.

There are lots of spaces to rest in the shade, and cool down for a bit by the river. There are clearings just off the path where you can hang out for a quiet moment. I visited a little after noon on a summer day, at peak sun, and was relieved to have lots of shade to enjoy the walk. This space is well-maintained, offering a variety of paths to go down and not too long of a trail any which way either if you don't feel like it. The restrooms were very clean and I enjoyed having a spot for a meal, on the steps by the parking lot. As far as parking goes, there aren't very many spaces so I'm wondering if that was the only area to park aside from the residential. Wish I lived more in the neighborhood to just stop by randomly and get my steps in.

I even came across a deer in my wandering. It's always cool to see nature up close and personal. I would definitely recommend this park, whether you are just looking to walk around or have a bicycle. They also have a children's play area and a cool body of water on the property. All in all, I will give this place five stars.

The Stone River Greenway can be accessed by several trailheads in the Donelson/Hermitage area. The…read moremost popular access points are along Lebanon Pike. I made my way onto the Greenway via the Kohl's trailhead, which is an entrance found at the back end of the Kohl's department store parking lot. It's not glamorous, but gets the job done. At this entry point you are directed under, around and onto the Bob Sheehan Memorial Bridge. As you walk this path, you are next to the Stones River, as well as Lebanon Pike. Once you get beyond the immediate area, you finally hit the trails. The trails are a collection of pathways from wide roads between the river and neighborhoods, to slimmer walkways in the woods. There is not one identity for the trails here, and they seem kind of pathed together. But even so, they get the job done for those who enjoy walking, jogging or biking. Additionally, Ravenwood Park can be found just a half mile or so down the trail from the Kohl's trailhead. While I didn't not explore this park, it too has an interesting history. There is a lot of construction happening along large stretches of the trails, mostly that of new neighborhoods. This takes away from the nature aspect of the greenway, but I get it... Overall, the Stones River Greenway Trails get the job done. I prefer other stretches of the greenway such as those near Two Rivers, but when in the area or just needing a change of scenery, this portion of the trail is a decent option.

They have a bird garden, greenhouse, pond and flower garden. The creek is so serene. They just reopened after the ice storm and they did such a wonderful job clearing all the trails. It feels so safe. Now that it's getting warmer daffodils are popping up along the trails. Can't wait to see all the trees fill in this spring :)

Its a lovely park, and they have Daffodils everywhere in March! A lot of people will bike here or run and there's always people walking their dogs. There's plenty of parking, but most of it is grass for the overflow lot. They also have a little play area for small children (no swings or slides). Its also a nice picnic area if you bring a blanket.

If you thought the "Kohl's part of the Stones River Greenway - Kohl's Trailhead was in memoriam of…read morean important Nashvillian from the past...you wouldn't be alone. It wasn't until I pulled in and saw the Kohl's department store that I realize the trailhead is appropriately and aptly named after its location in the parking lot of said store! The trailhead/entrance to the Greenway was not what I expected, but it serves its purpose and feeds right into the greenway, which can take you miles away and in multiple directions around the city. The trailhead leads you from one side of Lebanon Pike to the other by taking you under and then onto the Bob Sheehan Memorial bridge. To get there you walk alongside the Stones River, and even can walk down to the water under the bridge. There are large wooden/gravel steps that lead you directly to the river and a small covered river bank. The trailhead entrance is not much, features greenway signage, a wanted fountain and a trashcan. There is no building, restrooms or seating areas, this is left just a trailhead/entrance to the greenway. This portion of the greenway goes from urban to wooded very quick, and from walking trails to converted roads now solely used for pedestrian travel via foot and/or bike. The greenway and trailhead are well kept and clean. The trailhead, while not my favorite along the Greenway, serves its purpose and is a convenient option for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.

Nice easy trail but a bit tricky to find. Look for the Kohls Department store (as you drive in on…read moreyour right) and go to the end of their parking lot. You will see many cars and a big map of the entire Stones River Greenway trail. We enjoyed a 2-3 mile walk and noticed many of the tree's changing color due to this time of year. (We went to the left of the trailhead) You walk under a bridge and often see fisherman casting their lines to hopefully catch a big one. There is also a portion of the trail that's next to the highway so it's quite noisy but that's only for a short period of the walk. Overall, it's really nice and the trees and water below are stunning. At the end of our walk before we turned around we came across an old rustic stone and wooden cottage that looked like it wasn't inhabited but fantasized the person who would be living there. So much rich history in this area. This walk/hike is so worth it. The entire greenway trail is over 9 miles. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Next time we visit we'll go to the right side of the trail and see if that trail has to offer. .
