About a month ago my husband found Sandman's Workshop and ordered a stone for our new Gatlinburg residence. He enjoyed picking out the rock and designing it with the employee. Since I was out of town he texted me the design before they proceeded just to make sure it was what I wanted. It was, and the end result was beautiful. Two weeks later I was in town and we decided to order a stone for our main residence in Charlotte. We wanted a Carolina Panthers logo in black with Carolina Panthers blue shaded around it. Then would be our last name in black, and below that would be Keep Pounding in Carolina Panthers blue. They tried talking me out of using any color in the text saying it would be hard to read, yet they had examples all over their showroom with colored text. Don't offer colored text and show colored text if you don't want to do it. Once we got past the design I went over again what color I was looking for. They kept saying Carolina blue, to which I said that is totally different (think sky blue like UNC). I even pointed to a stone that used the blue I was talking about. They finally said they understood what I was asking for and that they would look it up on the computer (I assumed they'd look up the Panthers logo online). I paid my $100 plus tax for the stone and left. When my husband went to pick up the stone the next day, he immediately saw they never had a firm grasp at the color I was requesting. The layout was fine, but behind the Carolina Panthers logo was a sky blue shading. You cannot undo that. And the Keep Pounding was black, not blue. That they did change but you can tell they did. Every time I see this rock sitting in front of my house I want to smash it I am so ticked off. It looks ridiculous. And eventually I might just do that. Based on this experience I'm not sure if I'd recommend them for anything other than a basic stone with black text/graphics. read more

Came in not expecting to find anything I wanted ... I bought a rock for 40 some bucks and that includes what they write. Took about an hour and nice addition to my new backyard project. Saw others having stones with their name or address or some even grave stone. Great prices. read more

After seeing a guy walk to his car carrying a large rock I just had to check out this place. If you like rocks all shapes and sizes this is the place for you. The have small rocks they have large ones they have flat and round ones (ok I think you get the picture). The store is not huge but I'm sure you can find a rock here. After entering the gentleman working told us how the system works - the price displayed includes engraving wow simple enough. After looking through the store we picked out a rock. The young man working took the rock to the design center area and went to work. He took a picture of our rock and it came up on screen then he started to apply the letters and graphic we chose. We agreed on the design and they went to work. About thirty minutes later we had a rock with our design. The rock looked just like the design we chose on the computer. They did an exceptional job in customer service and they rock in design. To say the least the next time I need a custom rock this is my place. read more

Omg with this store!!!! Do you like rocks? Do you art on them? Then look no further, this is your place for making a perfect rock art for you or for a present. My family and I are enjoying the RV life and we wanted to buy a sign with our family's name, we've seen RV signs carved on wood that look so nice, but we also saw signs on rocks that look amazing. Of course a wood sign is lighter and you might me able to hang it easier, but the rocks look so natural, beautiful, elegant and with tons of personality, and for the prices that have is really worth it to at least check them out and everything they have. You can put pictures, letters, make benches, big signs, little signs, you name it they have it and make it for you, because the way they make your design there's no way you could complain at the end because you are the one who is designing it. I'm definitely coming back for the beautiful stones' necklaces they have, and maybe more rocks lol, just loved the store and the guys making them. read more

What a unique concept and amazing service. They do amazing work and will carve your personalized rock while you wait. We picked a beautiful stone out and customized it just the way we wanted it. While we ate dinner they did the engraving and painting and put it in our car for us. The service was amazing and they couldn't have been more helpful. We know the owners and they have made us several beautiful rocks! We are from WV and they even did coal carvings,which we loved.They also do rocks that have lamp oil or citronella.Fantastic people,fantastic work!Also they have Pigeon Forge Soap Shop adjacent to Sandmans.It has wonderful soaps,bath,hand scrubs,lotions to much to mention but all great smells and products.Stop by and visit them,very unique and would make great gifts!!! Highly recommend!!!They also make slates with pictures on them,I can't say enough about them!!!!Not your ordinary shops!! read more

When in Pigeon Forge DO NOT MISS the Sandman's Workshop. They will carve any image and/or wording into the stone of your choice. Talking to the owner we found that he hand selects each and every stone from area quarries. He told us he rejects over half of the stones he sees because they don't have the right shape or color for his customers. We ordered our stone and it was ready for us to pick up the same day. The prices are much less than we have seen in other shops around the country. We told our friends about this and they are now having us get carved stones for them on our next trip.
