Sandwichic has the best sandwiches I've ever had. A few years ago when I studied abroad in Florence I came here a few times a week - having lived down the block. I absolutely LOVED the sandwiches and the service - Andrea and Marco are absolute gems. When I just came back to Florence a week ago, I was excited but a little worried to return to Sandwichic. The place held such a special spot in my heart - but I was worried coming back it might have changed, and not be as good. Or maybe being in college anything under 5 euros seemed good to me? They will take their time to explain the entire menu and are in no rush. The downside is the line moves excruciatingly slow. We showed up with 10-12 people in line and it took over 45 minutes to get food. But it was so good I'm still debating going back next week to try the spicy salami they were out of today. I studied abroad in Florence for 1 semester, and this place became a weekly tradition to visit for me and two of my friends. We loved it so much after our first visit, that we didn't even want to go to another panini shop in Florence, because we were afraid that it just couldn't compare to the deliciousness at Sandwichic. Everything about this place define what you would imagine a traditional Italian panini cafe. First off, the employees here are so kind and make a point to remember you when are visiting so frequently, as was our case! Andrea and Marco were the two employees that we saw each time that we visited; and I have to say that they make such a great team! Second of all, you cannot beat the prices here! If you are a student, you can get a panino and a water bottle for only 3.5 Euros! (Being back in NY makes me cringe when I see that the average price for a sandwich here is at least $10). Third of all, they have an endless number of options here, including plenty of sandwiches for vegetarians as well. The hardest part about coming here is trying to decide which one to get, because they all seem so appetizing. Found this little gem on our way back to our flat from Mercato Centrale. We were planning on getting sliced cured meat from Mercato Centrale but the meat station seemed to be closed... I remembered seeing Sandwichic on our way to Centrale Mercato and said to myself I'd come get meats here if I can find it elsewhere. It's hard to miss Sandwichic because it stands out beautifully with the window displays. We went for their dried meats al la carte to go. It was €4 for 100 grams of prosciutto we got 200 g: I highly recommend this one, fabulous. €4 for 100 grams of Tuscan salami: also highly recommended. €3 for 100 grams of some dark meat shoulder stuff: good but a little in different. We ended up paying €16 for three types of cured meats. Very reasonable considering how much they give. We would've been fine with just prosciutto and Tuscan salami. Both were outstanding, some of the best cured meats. We have been slicing bread from Centrale Mercato, drizzling Olive Oil and toasting then putting the meats with some Sheeps milk cheeses... So good. Marco was very polite, professional and very classy. There are three young men who own this shop and they are passionate about their food and customer service. Let me tell you about a little place called SandwiChic... This hole-in-the-wall Florentine sandwich shop epitomizes Italy in the most wonderful ways possible. Before filling its walls with the aroma of fresh bread and olive oil, this place was a sewing shop. When the three wonderful gentlemen of SandwiChic took over, they saved the sewing machines, buttons, and other accoutrements to decorate their store. Talk about charming. Allora... i panini! These sandwiches are transcendent. The ingredients are fresh, and the combinations are insightful. If you don't know what you want, simply ask one of the delightful young men behind the counter to surprise you, and you will be forever thankful. You can also order any sandwich to your liking, but be careful. If these guys don't believe your ingredients will work in perfect harmony, they will insist that you try something else. Based on the name alone, SandwiChic might sound unauthentic/tacky at first, but I visited here because it was right in between my hostel and Galleria dell' Academia, and I was so glad that I did! The menu is pretty large and can be intimidating since it's all in Italian, but the employees were so helpful and friendly, they gave me a few recommendations and explained everything to me. I ended up getting a sandwich with their local salami, truffle spread, cheese and (I think) arugula. It was delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and was super cheap too! Their bread was amazing too, soft but lightly crunchy on the outside and with great flavor. There's a little bit of seating in the back, but you can definitely take this to go if you want to. They also have a few options for drinks that looked great, but I did not try any. I actually went back again a couple days later before I left Florence and got another sandwich with the salami, cheese, and roasted red peppers, which was also delicious. A lot of people compare this to All'antico Vinaio, and although I personally did not go there to compare, my friend who I met up with went to both. She said that both places are great and have delicious sandwiches, but SandwiChic is much less crowded/touristy, more friendly, and has better bread. OMG...this was amazing. If we were in person, I'd sputter about just how amazing this place is. There were four of us and we went in with high expectations, given the reputation, where we were in Florence, etc etc. It far exceeded any expectations we could have had!! The best part about every sandwich on the menu (we ended up trying a significant portion of the menu during our stay in Florence) was that they were simple - fresh/great quality ingredients, without foo-foo "fancy" things like asparagus scented garlic-basil infused foam (yes it's a thing..and it's lame). The bread was fresh and flavorful. The spreads they put on the bread (instead of traditional mayo/mustard) were amazing! They were so fresh and flavorful that you could have made a meal with just the bread and spreads. The spreads ranged from a spicy red pepper spread to eggplant to truffle. The cheeses were amazing! Mostly Percorino given the region but a range from soft and creamier cheeses to the ultra dry shaved varieties. The meats were to die for! The prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and pancetta siiigh..they were phenomenal! Freshly sliced/shaved for your sandwich they were juicy, flavorful and impressive. The worst thing you can do to meat is pre-slice it and let it sit around to oxidize and harden. They definitely don't make that mistake here. Best of all...these phenomenal creations are only 4 euro. This was hands down the best sandwich shop that we found while in Firenze. We stopped by for a quick lunch after the Uffizi one day. The actual store is a little bit small and if you're arriving during lunch at the high tourist point in the year, you may have to wait a bit in line. However, we only had a couple Chinese tourists in front of us before we got to order. The list of sandwiches available here are extensive and most are unique to only this shop. I recommend that you take your time with the menu and chose your sandwich like you would a prom date, because I promise that the sandwich will be so good that you will want to fuck it.
