The new user interface is horrible. I just want to be able to see all my transactions in a format that lets me sort by date and amounts. The old interface displayed transactions in a spread sheet like format. Now there are fewer transactions displaying at one time, they show all the details which I don't need unless I have a question, and make me hunt to see all my pending transactions. This morning it looked like $2600 went missing. The large fonts they use are probably nice for people with visual problems, but it is just too much work to find my information. I am going to change banks, which is a huge pain, but that's how bad this new format is. read more

I have been banking with SSNB since 1997 with both personal and business accounts and I used to be in love with this bank. As they have grown over the years the client support has gotten worse and worse. During Covid the client support truly took a hit and I was understanding to that, but today there is no excuse in my book. Today specifically I called the E-BIZ business client support center and sat on hold for 5 minutes so I requested a call back. Its been almost two hours and I have still not received a return phone call. I have emailed CEO Schrider as well as Mr. Kitterman VP client experience manager and have not received a response. I am disgusted with the lack of client support and I am moving all of my personal and business banking needs to Capital One Bank in 2025. read more

Horrible bank! My daughter deposited an annuity check for 20000 that she gets every year, due to their clerical error they are trying to make her change he id to what they have! In the meantime her money is in limbo and she can't pay her rent! They have no idea of what they are doing and are thieves, they are holding her money and extorting her for their mistake! Just logging in is a hastle - they changed my Company ID without notification, then when I've attempted to login over the past few months it's an endless loop between Company ID, username, sending/entering text message to cell phone, repeat. When I called they asked for a ton of information, but still were unable to verify me and requested that I come in person. I certainly will come in person...to close this account! 25 years I've banked with Sandy Spring. Over the past 5-10 years it has completely changed. I do not know what happened. I've tried being patient and stay a loyal customer but this institution is beyond backwards. The worst customer service I have ever had. 30 years I've dealt with this bank tangentially. Nothing but problems every time. They are out of date. Do you use a password manager like a normal person? No, that won't work right. Login is somehow through another domain for sign-in. The people are nice and normal when you have to meet them, but WHY have people and location a that they force you to go to? Stay away from this bank. Your funds are NOT secure. Recent victim of credit card fraud. They approved several thousand dollars over FOUR days and didn't flag transaction until the FIFTH transaction for LESS than $200. It took almost 3 weeks for funds to be returned. Then about 2 weeks later, 5 weeks since fraud transactions, I CLOSED all my accounts. Then two hours later Sandy Springs calls and calls again because they issued wrong amount on my check. The Corporate Security representative called and asked me to return check, so correct amount could be reissued. So when it's THEIR money, it's URGENT but when it's your money, they just let it go in fraudulent transactions. I called back Corporate Security representatives TWICE within minutes of her call and she NEVER bothered to return my call. That's "EXCELLENT, " customer service. read more

This bank is an unmitigated disaster when it comes to CDs. I had a CD mature that I wanted to cash out. Unlike just about any other bank these days, Sandy Spring refuses to send the funds by ACH to another bank account. They have to send it by certified mail. I still haven't gotten my cashier's check from them more than a week after I closed out my CD, causing me to lose more than week's worth of interest on a fairly substantial amount. read more

This bank is the absolute worst. It's like dealing with a company stuck in 1972. Their systems never work. Multiple times I've spent 20 mins on hold (and gotten disconnected and had to start all over again). Their beautiful new system is horribly designed (hey, surprise, their "make a payment" and "quick transfer" features don't actually work if you're paying from an external bank account -- but there's no indication of that on the screen so you'll waste all kinds of time trying to troubleshoot this "bug" only to learn it's actually a "feature." We have our mortgage here so we're a captive audience, but if I could switch to another bank I would do it in a nanosecond. Save yourself monthly frustration and get your mortgage elsewhere. We attempted to work with Eva from Sandy Springs Bank to get a mortgage on our new modular home. We went with this bank specifically because they agreed to finance a modular. After months of waiting, after signing a contract with the builder, and getting loan approval from Sandy Springs - they pulled our mortgage just before signing as they no longer wanted to cover modular construction. She straight up called me a liar, saying I never told her it was modular construction. That's why we chose this bank in the first place. DO NOT TRUST THEM read more

by far the worst bank ive every had to use, nothing but problems from the beginning. had to drive 3 times in person for them to set up their own loan account and connect it to my profile. mind you this is all within the same bank. atms often dont take withdrawals??? and overdraft fee's literally paying them with the money that was just deposited directly to them. literal joke read more

My experience with Sandy Spring indicates managers put customers second, what works best for management operations first. Have kept lobbies closed - whereas, for example, Capital One bank just across the street(from Wildwood Branch) has been open for months. Can now make appointment, in advance, to walk inside - but last time I tried that, was advised appointments all taken - have to set for following day. Tried drive in windows - if no one in line there, was fine. but recently, both windows occupied. After waiting 4 minutes or so, with no indication that either customer was close to finishing his/her business there, gave up and drove off. Of course, had lobby inside been open(subject to distancing so not too crowded), could have avoided all the hassle. Unfortunately, because I have home equity line at Sandy Spring - was required to set up checking account along with it - have to deal with the foregoing from time to time. Had I known how bank would deal with COVId and accessing branches, might have looked elsewhere for home equity line. As noted above, Capital One branch across the street has never made difficult to access. On inquiry, was advised this is policy of management - not Maryland or Montgomery County. read more

I would give this back 0 stars if I could! And I've banked with at least 20 different banks at some point in my life now. You open an account and are told one thing to only be hit with fees and unexplained closures to follow. They decided after my last checking account was open and receiving direct deposit payments for almost 2 months that they wanted to change their decision - citing Chex system report information - but not saying what the reason was for their adverse denial. At the time of writing this review, I have perfect banking history and over a 800 credit score with reporting from all three major credit bureaus so let that sync in as to the quality of banking experience you can expect! read more

Horrible customer service. I have been a customer for at least 8 years and need to change my address. I have tried calling and emailing and the only way you can change your address is to go to a location (I think there are three, none anywhere close) or to mail a letter. They say it's because email and phone are not secure. This is after they ask you a string of security questions. The mail is not secure. You cannot confirm where or who a letter came from. No security questions to answer. I now have medical bills I need my HSA money to pay for and have no access to MY money in MY account. I am now looking into other HSA options. Sandy Spring Bank is not your friend. Avoid the Bethesda branch at all cost. Unhelpful, rude employees. I cannot believe how unsympathetic and unhelpful this bank was to my adult children when their father died unexpectedly. When these grieving kids were trying to find out his final wishes as far as cremation vs burial, etc, the bank refused to let them look for a will or to look on their behalf. Yes their father was at fault for not setting things up in advance, but what would it cost that bank to look FOR the kids just so they'd know if there was a will or not? They refused and forced the kids to hire an attorney and pursue things legally at unnecessary expense just to look in his safety deposit box. Sandy Spring Bank is the absolute worst. It's 2019, and Sandy Spring's online banking is atrocious. The phone support is also worse than Verizon or Comcast in regards to help with problems. And their with time are always longer than others. Their answer for everything is to go into a branch bank and speak with a teller. The only way to conduct any kind of banking at all with them is to actually go into a branch bank and speak with a teller. I have my work Health Savings Account with Sandy Spring Bank, and they have AWFUL customer service. I am furious that I have to continue using this bank for this limited purpose. I contacted them on three separate occasions to update my address, and they still managed to send my new Health Savings Account Debit Card to my old address two times, even though the customer service representatives I spoke with assured me that they would send it to the correct address. My old card finally expired and I ended up having to pay for some expensive prescriptions out of pocket because of it. I finally got the card, and now I cannot activate it because my pin number is not working. I called to speak to customer service, and could they help me? NO! Now I have to trek out to a bank location which is not near me. To make it even more frustrating, my husband is having to pay for health expenses out of pocket as well because of these issues. All the reviews I found on this bank are bad and consistent with my brief experience. I called 800 numbers for Sandy Springs and select the mortgage options which says "please dial the person's 4 digit extension now." I don't have a 4 digit extension to dial, because I am attempting to be a new customer. I dial zero to speak with an operator and she tells me to dial the 800 number and then call a branch after I tell her the 800 number does not work (the branch numbers are the same as the 800 number). I finally speak to someone that is supposed to know about mortgages, but she cannot even tell me about the products and what she did tell me was inconsistent with their website. I agree with 100% with the other review. I am on the phone right now trying to get my on line access reactivated. If you don't access your account after some time you have to set up (as in enter all of your key info, name, address, security info) etc., all over again. I now wish to use my account to automatically pay my mortgage payment. However, once the first of the month rolls around, I am going to move my account to a more user friendly bank. This is far from the first time that I, or my spouse, has had an unpleasant experience with Sandy Spring auto payment and on line account access. Oh, and my star rating is actually no star rating. Very difficult bank to deal with if you are a small business or professional. You would think that a small, local bank would work hard for your business, but that is not the case with Sandy Springs. I purchased a refrigerator online from Lowe's using my Sandy Spring card. Lowe's called me a few hours later to say that they had CANCELLED the order due to the item not being in stock. Sandy Spring placed an authorization hold on my account for the amount of the refrigerator for SEVEN DAYS, even though they had been notified several times that the order had been cancelled. Now they are telling me for sure tomorrow the hold will be off. We shall see. If an emergency comes up I don't know what I will do. No I don't have time for this, time for a new bank. read more
