Sanibel Inn is one of the best places to stay on Sanibel Island. I've visited twice (2021 and 2026), and the updates since Hurricane Ian have made a big difference. The renovated rooms are some of the nicest I've stayed in--modern, clean, and really well done. The pool area is great for families, and the beach is perfect for shelling. If you're into finding shells, this place is hard to beat. They also offer great amenities like bikes, beach chairs, and umbrellas, which makes everything easy. The food at the bar is also really good, especially after a long day outside. I'd definitely recommend staying here, and we're already planning to come back. read more

We absolutely loved our stay at Sanibel Inn! Our room was beautiful, clean & had a screened in balcony overlooking the pool & beach. They offered free paddle boards, kayaks, bikes, pool/beach toys, pickle ball & tennis. The staff was excellent- one night we had an issue with the motorized shade in our room. OK y'all, I don't think I can say any better than my seven-year-old dude, Sanibel Inn is so nice. You can do everything go to the beach and go to the pool and also see palm trees oh and if you're lucky get coconuts, which we were, we got a coconut it was amazing. So if you have a family or even if you don't, please go to Sanibel Inn check out the amazing views, try to catch a lizard and even try to climb a palm tree like I did, but I couldn't. It was way harder than I thought it would be. oh also, I love lizards. Also my love lizard and my son love the chips and guacamole from the tiki bar which I give 10 out of 10 stars which is my rating system also let's not forget about the amazing seashells that you can find. We also found seashells called cats paws or maybe kittens paws depends on what you want to call them. Oh amazing non-alcohol piña colada's so to recap Sanibel Inn is a great place for your family. My wife and I vacationed here 5/25. Check in was quick and front office staff were extremely friendly. The remodeling was wonderful, beautiful. Our room was great, clean and just right. We stayed in a one bedroom king with bathroom, kitchenette in the den. Room was wonderful, room service was great. Any time we needed something they brought it immediately. We ate at the tiki bar several days for lunch. The food was great and the waitresses were amazing. The guys that get your beach chairs out and umbrella's were friendly and eager to help. We ate supper and breakfast at the other restaurant on the property Dante Italian restaurant. Service was great and food was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. The only two things that happened negatively was on Saturday of our stay this big family came and took over the pool area. They were loud , rude and messy. Eating and drinking in the pool, standing where you walk down into the pool and would not move to let anyone into the pool. None of us regular guest believed they were even staying there. We think they just came up and took over. After that day we never seen them again.there is no one there as far as security to watch something like this. Next thing that happened was the last day of our stay. The pool got shut down. They had problems with the pool. Other than those two things the stay was great and the location was great. If you're looking for a bad review to read. STOP NOW. Every single thing at this Inn is wonderful. It's a mid size resort with everything you need close at hand and easy to find. The Rooms are spotless, comfortable and stocked accordingly. The grounds are lush and maintained. The beach and pool are beautiful. The staff? The staff is what makes this place SHINE. Everyone that I have encountered is guest oriented. Do you look confused? They are there to guide you. If they see you might need something... they're there to help. Seriously, they don't walk through a gate or a door without checking over their shoulder before letting it go to ensure that a guest doesn't feel unseen. I wanted to put together a vacation that had both a blend of familiarity and new destinations. My first hotel was the Sanibel Inn. My wife, brother in law and sister in law have never truly explored the west coast. Me? 5th grade I lived in Ft Myers while my parents opened an Italian restaurant. It didn't last and we moved back to Brooklyn. My memories of Sanibel Island and being in the water all day are my best memories. Let me share them with my family. I booked two rooms on the beach. The kitchen didn't really matter to us, just point us to the beach. And that's where the hotel shines. Its situated on one of the best beaches in the United States. Every morning we'd walk to see the sun rise. Have breakfast and then swim-lay on the beach for the entire day. Magnificent. Walking back from the beach, the pool bar was calling! I told the bartender to make (4) Pina Coladas and float dark rum on top. After two of those, I was feeling mite-T fine. One thing I noticed, there are BBQ pits set up for the hotel guests?? I mean, I'm on vacation but if a family wants to cook and shop? Power to the people's. The actual room itself is where I was a little disappointed. There were two beds, I don't think the beds were queen size. The shower has a wooden window sill inside the shower where I bonked my head. Overall, the hotel is situated on a beautiful beach. Basic necessities... What? One night at this hotel. First floor facing the waters please. I am glad it wasn't more days... I'd die. The complementary WiFi does not work...at all! Don't think about remote working here. Also, somehow service from my phone provider doesn't work either... but it works great when I am outside the unit.... The amenities are good. They have paddle board, kayaks and bikes included in the stay, not sure if all are different. There are beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach on a first come first serve basis. There is a public shower available by the check in building. that's the good as well. Environment A very small place with a couple of buildings. Plenty of parking available. View out of the room was very nice. Niceness of the staff Staff was very nice. Explained all the check in process. We were able to use the amenities prior the check in and also after checking out. So the check-in staff was very unhelpful- I had come in and told the girl at the counter I was there to check in and my last name. She didn't say much but I heard her sort of mutter to another employee who was in and out about how she was supposed to leave so her attitude was already unfriendly. After about 5 minutes of standing there, thinking she was doing something on the computer for me, I asked if I should just sit down. She says, "Oh, can I help you?" Like for real?!? I gave her my last name again, she couldn't find it, asked for my ID, then says my first name as if that is normal for people to check-in under.... Slowly she gets my stuff together but is distracted by any and everything the other staff people are doing. Overheard another guest tell one of them she already checked in previously and just needed cards, the lady asked her if someone was working with her and when she said no the staff lady just stood there! It was unreal. Got my things but was confused by the map because I paid for an oceanview room and it looked like my room was facing the parking lot- she kept repeating it was a gulf view but what I discovered later was that they don't indicate the other rows of room numbers on the map are the second floor, which is all she had to say! Didn't tell us how to get to our building and it was not obvious, no signs, room numbers so small it was hard to see from the car. Room really is fine, nice enough, but discovered much later our shower lever comes straight out and we can't get it to work, so my son and I used a plastic cup to wash! After couldn't find a switch to turn on the vent. Decided to call the front desk to tell them about the shower but the phone had NO DIAL TONE!! Checked to make sure plugged in and seemed like nothing was there that was unplugged...so used my own cell phone to call and it didn't even ring! Tried twice and got three beeps like disconnected or some crap and it hung up! So in my pajamas, I walked all the way to the office and told them- I would have been extremely apologetic if I were her, but this staff is in serious need of empathy training- it was just "oh sorry" and she radioed maintenance. It has been half an hour and no one has come and I have no hope at all. I will NEVER stay here again and I will tell everyone I know to avoid. Oh and there's biting no seeums everywhere and they're out of bug spray in the office. Update: So maintenance came about 5 minutes after this post and as expected, it is not a quick fix. He said he would have to replace the whole faucet. He sounded very uncertain. I told him to just do it another day because it was nearly 8pm, we are only here one night, and my kids and mom were ready for bed. - [ ] Then about 5-10 minutes later I get a text from none other than the hotel- but not in response to this, just a welcome and let us know if you need anything...at 7:46 pm, after all of the above. So I text back about the issues and ask for another room. She calls and says they're full but if I gave them half an hour they could find an equivalent room. I told her no, my family is ready for bed and could she just give me a discount because we are only here one night and I spent A LOT on this to treat my mom and they've just ruined our whole evening with this! She said she will call and talk to the manager in the morning....so I get to try to sleep without resolution. And why did I have to ask?!? She should have been offering me compensation or an upgrade or anything!! I am not trying to scam you, we seriously don't have a working shower or phone and the phone number printed on the map they give you is DISCONNECTED! I'm stressed and mad and snapped at my kids and here I am wasting more time writing about this shit. read more

We payed extra for a room with a beach view..we were put into a room with no View was dirty and had a shower that over flowed because the drain was clogged. After confirming that we originally payed for and reserved a beach view with a king bed and didn't get it, as well as asking for a different room the person at the front desk shared with me that he knew the shower had issues. Also, Found out the hotel wasn't even at 50% capacity but the person at the front desk insisted to keep us in the same building with no beach view and a queen bed. After paying $20 extra for an 'upgraded' room we got eaten up by BED BUGS! when my mother went to complain about the bed bugs the girl at the front desk insisted it was sand fleas..girl there's a difference. Listen to your guests!!!! We brought home the fucking BED BUGS and are spending a shit ton of money to get them out of our house. NOT OKAY!!!!! I had such a wonderful stay at the Sanibel Inn. It's very cute and comfortable. We stayed in their 1-bedroom with a kitchenette. Our room had Gulf views and looking at the water in the morning, was lovely. Cleaning service was great. Front a Desk was extremely helpful. And the grounds were beautifully polished and landscaped. Best of all, on our last night, Fireworks gave the Island a whole new look. Thank you so much Sanibel Inn for making our stay relaxing. read more

Nice location. But a very tired property. The A/C could not cool the room nor more importantly, remove the humidity. Once wet, anything will remain damp at best. Fresh bed linens will feel cool and damp. As do the towels in the ventless bathroom. There's just no way to move the air. Very accommodating staff and a fun crew at the Tiki bar. Same can be said for Dantes, the restaurant. We won't return, our in-room comfort just wasn't there. Also, I need to note the exterior garbage/litter all hung up and around the palm trees. Appalling that room cleaners wouldn't note the unsightly plastic mess to the grounds folks to clean it up. Apathy is a customer killer. I'll post pictures of it if I can. read more

Stayed here for a night with my brother. We got a room facing the water. The room itself was a little worn down but nothing major. The view from the balcony was beautiful. there was an unpleasant musk in the room so when we first got there we opened the sliding glass door to air it out. We didn't spend much time in the room, there was a nice tiki bar right outside where you could hang out and have a few drinks. There is also access to the beach so you can walk right out to the white sands. Plenty of sea shells to find or you could sit out and catch some sun. We went with a group so we had several rooms in the same building. 4 days after we left one of the people noticed they was charged an extra 250 dollars. Come to find out everyone who rented a room that day was charged a 250 dollar smoking fee. They said that our room smelled like smoke. Neither my brother nor I smoke. Other than sleeping we wasn't even in the room. We called to inquire about the charge and we was told that "someone was smoking and so everyone got charged which is absolutely ridiculous!" Again we don't smoke, no one who smokes was ever in our room but someone, somewhere was smoking so everyone who had a room was charged. BE AWARE!!! If you choose to stay here you might be charged for someone else who is staying not following the rules with no proof whatsoever besides the cleaning person saying they smelled smoke. I will never stay here again and I will never recommend this place. If you must stay here I would recommend never opening your balcony door because if you do you take a chance on getting smells from the outside coming in and you will without a doubt be charged! Find a place where you can enjoy your vacation not one where you have to be worried by other people's actions. read more

I was over charged from the beginning and then found out after seeing the over charged they also charged me a bogus 250.00 cleaning fee for the smell of smoke and no one in my room or that was with me has ever smoked a day in their life. We literally only slept in the room for a total 8 hours and left in perfect condition upon departure. When I called my other family that stayed there they were also charged a bogus $250.00 cleaning fee which is a straight up scam! Staff was super friendly. The best part of staying at this place is having the towels, beach and access to the bikes. The pool heater was broke so we didn't get in the pool much which was a little disappointing. The bar by the pool has great drinks and food but the service is slow. The bartender was super nice but there was only one waitress and you can tell she was stressed while being all over the place. Also watch out for the crows. I got pooped on by the pool! This place is a great location. We walked and biked everywhere. We would stay here again mostly because the location and the access to the beach and having the bikes. Perfect, beachey Inn with a vintage feel and modern amenities right on the Gulf. Each room is angled so there is a view of the water. you can sleep to the sound of the waves and leave the doors open to the sea air. A very spare terrace on the second floor is open to all guests. It's a fine place to see the stars on this island where natural light is supreme. (No streetlights!) Reservations include a Continental breakfast buffet of fresh fruit, grapefruit and orange juices, various pastries, small croissants, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and coffee. It's served in the Traditions dining room that is sunny in the morning, and which becomes a dinner w/music haunt in the evening. You can paddle boards, or rent bikes that have pink and blue frames and fat tires ($10/hr). Beach lounge chairs with plastic staps are free for guests' use. You're asked to return them to the hotel grounds from the sand, especially during turtle season. The 500' of beachfront is billed as some of the best shelling on the island. The front desk provides you with shell bags and a shell ID page from the local museum. I discovered a 1937 book in the reading room that was a bequest to the Inn in 1954. It was a description of shells, complete with pages typed by an old Remington, and hand-drawn illustrations. read more

I still enjoy the Sanibel inn. I have been coming every year for the past 8 years. That being said, the rooms need some serious updating. The resort management needs to start telling the individual owners of each 2 bedroom/2 bathroom units to update the mattresses, carpets, and kitchens. If the resort wants to continue to charge 350 to 500 a night, (depends on the season) the units should be nicer. That being said, I enjoy the convenience of the Sanibel Inn. Much-Much nicer than expected, as their website's pictures do not do the grounds justice. The bar on-site, located directly adjacent to the pool, has a few local beers on tap and makes great blended drinks. It's a perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink, and/or lunch break. They also offer bikes and long board rentals, free of charge. There were a few grills on the patio, as well as a classy fire pit. Do not believe what you read on booking.com or any of the other pages. This place is in serious need of a update. We paid $437.50 a night for what we believed would be a five star experience. I wouldn't pay $150 a night for the room we got. The room smelled damp, they squeezed two Queen size bed into a 10x14 room, the mini refrigerator look like something taken out of the back of shag'n wagon. The kitchen area was a joke. The bathroom had no amenities. The only reason I gave this place two stars is because the clerk at night was very nice and the view was nice off the back deck. There is 100 places cheaper and in better condition on the island. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

The servers at the Tiki Bar- Kim- excellent service- great drinks, great sandwiches and salads- fair prices. They are very attentive with towels and chairs and umbrellas- and the weekend steel drum guy transports you to feel like you are in the Caribbean. The suites are great, but on the high price side. Worth the expense if you can afford it. On the down side, Beach and pool close way too early. They run dawn to dusk only. Myself, my wife and my nine month old stayed at the Sanibel Inn for one night on New Years eve on a short notice booking. We were able to get a room which was a huge bonus on short notice and which we were concerned about but there was a room available and the booking agent was very helpful. For context, we were staying with my mother in another part of Florida during one of the worst cold periods the state has ever seen and since we had driven here over the holidays from Toronto we decided our investment warranted paying some extra money for one night of warm weather on a beach further south as this was going to be the only sunny and warm day in our two week stay. Our home base was closer to Orlando where it was meant to drop to 5 degrees the following evening. First, the island is very pretty and the beach is excellent and very characteristic of the white sand and shell laden islands and quays the gulf coast of Florida is known for. The hotel is nice and the grounds are clean and tidy. The staff were great and very friendly. There is a restaurant on the resort called Dante's which is fine (see following review) and convenient but it seems to run independently of the Inn. The Inn is also affiliated with a number of others on the Island and a golf course. Apparently your room fee allows you to access the golf course but my guess is there is no financial incentive here as far as rentals or green fees go. The pool was fine and full of families with children as to be expected and the beach staff were great as far as giving us an umbrella etc. We chose not to eat anything from the beach cafe as the menu looked pretty deep frier based. Not that we are complaining but we brought some food with us so ordering snacks was not a necessity. The bar staff at the cafe were great and made us a few nice cocktails. We did however get overcharged for the drinks at 27 US for two mojitos. I thought this was quite pricy and didn't know the cost until we received the room receipt upon check out the following morning at 11. I did follow up with the beach cafe shortly after checkout about whether the price was accurate and the bartender very promptly looked into the bill from the day before and advised we were erroneously charged for "doubles" and offered a bill adjustment or a free drink which was very reasonable in my opinion. I would also like to point out that as advertised, check in is not until 4pm and they mean it. In our case we were not able to get access to our room until 4:40 for which they gave us a 25 dollar voucher for the beach bar as unsolicited compensation for the trouble. Again very reasonable and it covered our two mojitos. The room itself was "fine" a little outdated but I had no concerns and the beds were comfortable. My only criticisms were one or two of the lightbulbs were burned out in the room and I was surprised that there were no bathrobes provided. The price was not cheap at close to 400US a night for a ground floor room overlooking the pool once taxes and "resort fees" were considered so a bit more attention to detail would have been nice. Also, it is worth mentioning that the water in the room carries a salty or desalinized and slightly sulphuric taste which is not bad for you, just unpleasant to drink. Given this and the price, I would have thought some bottled water would have been made available. When I called the front desk they told us bottled water was available for purchase from a vending machine outside our compound but the vending machine was out of water when we investigated. This was a problem as we needed some clean water to mix formula for our infant and. Luckily we had a partial bottle left in the car which we used. The next day we did find another vending machine with a water and an ice station but this was not pointed out to us when we inquired previously and would have been helpful. Overall, our stay was fine for the one night we were guests of the Inn and the lack of details were made up for by the staff and service. I would have to think however about whether another stay was worth the cost in the future given the 400 per night price tag and other accommodation options. read more

Great service and overall experience! My aunt, mother and I visited Sanibel for the first time last month. A short drive from the Atlantic side of Fl we made it in just under 3 hours. We were greeted by a very lovely woman who told us our room was ready early and we could unpack and go straight to our room. We even decided to stay an extra night on a whim and unwinding the first day! Room: Breathtaking!!! Second floor oceanfront room, words can't even describe. Hearing the water from our room was amazing. Great updated room with a flat screen tv and 2 queen beds. Ladies: hair dryer is included :) Pool/Bar: nice location in the center of the resort an easy walk from the beach or our room. Service at the bar was definitely on the slower end (maybe they do it on purpose since we are on vacation?). I had the salad twice with chicken which was tasty and very filling. Highlight: Free bikes to ride around the island complete with a basket on the front! We rode to the lighthouse and a few small shops on the main road, great way to get exercise and see a little more of the island. read more

Having direct access to the beach was awesome and the staff that helped out on the beach (bringing umbrellas etc.) were excellent! Unfortunately, the room looked as if it hadn't been cleaned at all. We found blood droplets all over the comforter, pillows, and sheets. When I called the front desk to get a new set, I was asked if I was sure it was blood and that they would send a supervisor up. I am going to lay out some of the specifics of what we loved and a few comments on what they can improve. We paid a bit over 600 for the days we were there in a room that faced the water. The room was super clean, the beds were comfy with large, white sheeted, comforters and four pillows per bed (two queens). The room had a small fridge and microwave as well as a coffee maker and good coffee. They maid came every day and did a perfect job putting the place back together. We were looking for a great pool and place to drink and relax after many months of being in the world. And the Sanibel Inn offered it for sure. The pool was warm and there is a bar that seves some food within a few steps. This is where they need an improvement. They only serve a few of the restaurant items and every day they were out of something. There is a restaurant on premises that has very old ambiance but the spinach salad was amazing and the food that we got from the bar was delicious. They have a happy hour from 4 to 6pm and serve 5 dollar apps such as fish tacos, mushroom caps stuffed with crab (out of), and a few other items that all looked good. The drinks were done well. We asked about the bar tender Dave, who was given really bad recommendations on Yelp and they said he is no longer employed. The other guests were friendly and we had a little swimming competition with folks from England and Spain. We took a Kayak out to ocean and enjoyed it a lot. We saw dolphins right next to us and the water was also warm and nice to swim in. The guy who was there to help with bikes and kayaks was very friendly. One day a guest said there were Jelly fish parts and to keep out of the water. The location was great, very easy to get around the island and we found Captiva to be AWESOME!! Eat at the Green Flash at sunset and Otters as well. The food is wonderful. Doc Fords has awesome Shrimp and grits, mussels, and Quinoa salad. All good stuff. Stay away from the Timbers, nothing special there. The pool needs some umbrellas as there was little shade while we were not in the water. And the front desk staff was SUPER nice. Really wonderful people. Marion and all were kind and just the best. I can't say more about this one thing but they were so amazing with us our last day!! They have lounge chairs and umbrellas at the beach, plenty for everyone. So overall I give the place a 5 for heart. They need to give the bar tenders the entire menu to sell and add some cover around the pool. We are totally going to go back and spend more eating time in Captiva. read more

We are long-time visitors to Sanibel but this was our first stay at the Sanibel Inn. The room was very pleasant with a wonderful view of the Gulf. It definitely feels like Island living. However, after spending a couple days there, I began to notice how much the place is showing its age. The restaurant is bad. It never has any customers. The drinks are bad too; poorly mixed and poorly presented. The Tiki bar is only open from 4-6PM. The bikes are all older models with no gears. The master bed and pullout bed were comfortable to sleep but the extra sheets do not fit the pull-out bed and appear aged and used. The armoire in the bedroom looks great but the hanger pole is too low so all your clothes drag against the surface. If you want that Island feel of waking up to the surf each morning then this is your place to stay. If you frequent many resorts, you may notice that this one needs to be updated. read more

Save your money-I feel completely ripped off!!! Because of work commitments, my husband and I only had the weekend of spring break available, so we knew in advance the rates would be higher. We paid almost $400 a night for a room that is comparable to a low level motel. This room must have been decorated around 1980. There were no special amenities aside from a small refrigerator and an outdated microwave. The coffee provided for for the tiny coffee maker literally tasted like cardboard. The toilets were so low that when you attempted to clean yourself (sorry, but this is true) your hand hit the toilet water. There was nothing special about this place at all except that we were in walking distance to the beach (which we paid extra for). I would never return to this place and I recommend you find another place to spend your hard earned money! read more

We were in Sanibel for a week long family trip and stayed at the Sanibel Inn. The grounds of this hotel are gorgeous! We had 3 rooms reserved for our family of 14. 2 condos and 1 suite. The rooms were nice, but were very different. One of the condos could have used some updating, while the smaller suite was VERY nice and recently updated. The entire staff from check in to check out was amazing. The staff that worked the beach were more than accommodating. They would go out of their way to make sure we had enough beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, kayaks, paddle boards etc...If we asked, they had it in minutes. We had some young travelers that left some clothes in the dryer and to our surprise, the hotel had mailed them back to us! We would definitely recommend this resort and plan on staying again when in Sanibel. read more
