Giving another review for one of the last standing businesses at the Tracy Mall. I have also been here a couple times in the past. The service is okay, for this particular visit i had to rind their bell 3 times, there was nobody up front. Finally got serviced and the food was made fairly quick. Wife and I shared the plate. She was craving it and i was not so hungry. Due to its cook to order nature it was pretty hot, the greens were fresh, rice was plain but did the job. Best thing about this spot is that it's pretty affordable. So good bang for your buck. With so much uncertainty regarding if the mall will survive, i wonder how long this place will last. read more

The food is fresh and cooked right there so it is hot and ready. The service is kind, fast, and accurate. The ambiance is in the mall so it really depends on how busy the mall is at the time of day. The serving sizes are great, but I wish their prices were a bit lower. However, I still recommend going here for some good Japanese bbq food. read more

I was standing, as the only customer, in front of the counter. The man working there glanced at me, and turned around. Didn't bother to say " can I help you?". I waited for a few minutes hoping he would turn around again say "can I help you?" He couldn't care less. Eventually I asked, can I get some "california rolls?" He replied impatiently, "no california roll!". I asked, how about "salmon roll?" He replied with an attitude, " no salmon roll". I asked, what role do you have? He said, with an attitude, " no any roll". I didn't bother asking about other items posted on their menu because I was longer hungry by then. He killed my appettite. Admittedly, it was an odd hour, like 2:30 ish. Not a regular lunch hour. But they were open, and if you are open, then you welcome customers. Always a joy to say hello to Simon Lau at Sansei Japan inside the Tracy Mall Food Court. His friendliness, sense of humor, and genuine care for his customers obviously shines. I live out of town, stop by whenever I am in the area, and do my best to bring my friends/family when visiting. The food is delicious and his team cooks their meals consistently great! Definitely give them a try and if you want something special, simply ask and he accommodates when he can for a fair fee. Can't wait to get home to enjoy and already looking forward to returning again! As always, thank you again Simon, for your hospitality. They have finally gotten their act together here! Stopped coming to Sansei Japan for a while because the service had gotten really unprofessional and the food was tasting inconsistent. Like the one memorable time when the cook left my order sitting on the counter & didn't even bother to call me and tell me it was ready, that was a final straw. Since this last summer 2019, things have gotten much better! More consistent food quality and more professional people working there. There seems to be the same guy cooking the food most of the time, which comes out lightly crispy for the chicken, generously served, and tasting yummy. Teppenyaki chicken with vegetables and rice is one of the healthier options at the mall food court, so I am glad this place is still around! You can also order beef or shrimp as well. Yelp Tip: For a healthier option, you can ask for all veggies with your protein and no rice, or ask for a greater ratio of veggies to rice. Keep up the good work Sansei, and we will keep coming! One of the only places got can get a fresh hibachi style bowl. They give you hella good and the chicken is always crispy AF. I came here during lunch and the food was bomb. I got the beef and chicken combo and it came with rice and vegetables. The vegetables are stir fried and once the meat and veggies are on top of the rice, the rice is the shit. It's almost like fried rice. My only gripe is they need to get make the teriyaki sauce more tasty. I think I saw them use the Kikkoman teriyaki sauce. read more

Decided to try the new Sansei Japan since they reopened. Flat out this place has dropped in food quality and presentation. First of all, it looks like they just slopped the vegetables (mainly cabbage) on the rice. The meats were decently cooked however there was no taste besides the bland teriyaki sauce. The beef was really stringy and thin. There was no "meat" so to speak on the beef. I asked for onions and as the meats and onions were cooking they weren't mixed together. The cook then placed the pile of onions on top of everything and that was that. I should have asked for more teriyaki sauce as the sauce was pretty non-existent in taste. Sansei Japan provided no extra condiments as in soy sauce or teriyaki sauce as in other Japanese fast food places. Places close down and reopen for a reason. I think this place had a plan to improve food quality but ultimately failed in the end. read more

Before Circus Vargas show, we stopped by Sansei Japan in West Valley Mall in Tracy to have dinner, not sure what I expected to have, I ordered Vegetable Soba (Lo Mein) with Teriyaki Beef, it turned out very delicious noodle, my friend had Teriyaki Beef over rice, she also liked her foods. They seem to have gone under new management, their prices have gone up and no longer offer a employee mall discount, and they seem to have made their portion smaller. Tasty. But not worth it. I work in a restaurant myself, and I can say this place is horrible. Chicken is bland, cooks don't wear gloves nor hats. Grill is filthy. They also tried to sneak in some old chicken in my order when they clearly saw I was watching them. This place needs a new manager and a whole new stuff. We ordered the combo california roll and salmon roll. We waited so long, even longer than the rest of the people who ordered after us that ordered food to be grilled and cooked. My daughter was so hungry waiting, she finished the california roll as soon as she sat down. When she began eating the salmon roll I noticed that the fish was browned. I inspected the rest of the roll and each piece had a brown section on the edge of the fish. I stopped her from eating it and brought it to the cashier's attention. The cashier looked at it, told me to step aside so she can take the order of the next person in line. We waited again then she brought it to the back and offered half the combo price back, since the platter was half eaten. I asked to speak to manager and she sighed like I was asking her to do too much. Then she came back without the manager, gave me my money back, and told me to have a nice day. Well at least she told me to have a nice day, but she didn't even apologize about the fish obviously not being fresh. Be very cautious ordering sushi here, and if you do, expect to wait very long. This is not the best responsive customer service from a food establishment that served brown edged salmon as sushi. read more
