We have a maple Scandinavian dining room set my parents gave us as a wedding present. When the kids were little years back, the original seat fabric got all stained and nasty with milk, etc. We went to an undisclosed interior design place and replaced the fabric with marine grade vinyl and thick padding. The result was horrendous. The vinyl was tucked, unprofessionally with big seams/creases at the corners, like a do it yourself job. We didn't care at the time - as long as it held up for the next 10 years, we were good. Come 2020 and that vinyl is getting annoying. Our butts stick to them, the chairs noticeably look bad relative to the rest of our furnishing, and most importantly, the kids aren't leaving have half their food on the seats. Santa Barbara Design Center has been here for a while and I stopped in randomly on the way to Home Improvement. I was introduced to Michael, a knowledgeable and personable chap. I showed him an online picture of the original chair, and that I wanted to restore the seat to its original, sleek, sculptural and refined splendor. He said no problem, provided a couple of premium quality fabric books, and we were on our way. We picked out the fabric and brought the chairs in. Michael commented "my god, who did this work?" 50% down and ten days later, chairs were done, with a message "come down and make sure you are happy." My wife and I looked, were pleased - Michael responded with "here's something that bothers me, I want you to see..." He flipped the chair over and on the bottom, the seat fabric was stapled just outside of the underside frame. You wouldn't see it normally, but from a distance or looking down from the side, you might. Immediately we thought the same thing, yeah, that's not ideal. He said it shouldn't be done like this, let me redo it for you, no charge. His upholsterer redid it, and boy those 8 chairs look great, almost better than the original! The seats came out sleek and wonderfully curved over the underlying pad. The fabric is comfortable, soft and elegant - couldn't be happier. The interior of SBDC fills a warehouse space and contains just about everything; furniture, rugs, lamps, etc. The staff were COVID compliant, and Michael was a dream to work with. He has an excellent eye for detail, is easy to work with, and is an honest broker; I wish we had more projects for him! read more

We had a slight issue with an item some time after purchasing and Grace has been incredible in getting it sorted out seamlessly. We had some Moroccan rugs that we thought were ruined by a new puppy. Dozens of urine stains on each rug. Carpet cleaning companies could only remove the urine crystals to eliminate smell, but couldn't do a thing about the stains, so they sat stained for about a year, totally set in. I dropped the rugs at SBDC as my last resort. They completely transformed the rugs! I couldn't believe my eyes. They looked brand new! I'm very pleased and grateful to Michael and the rest of the crew. They are friendly, professional, and know what they are doing. read more

I was horrified by treatment I received from Michael Kourosh. I wrote down my name and number in Michael's notebook and asked him to call me with a quote for a blow up sofa mattress for a hide-a-bed that was purchased at SBDC and was not functioning. I never heard a word back after almost a week. I had to call back TWICE and was finally quoted, $575.00 and Michael treated me SO rudely. I ended up calling the manufacturer from Minnesota and was quoted a price... 1/3 of the price Michael Kourosh quoted me. The man I spoke to from Minnesota was amazingly polite! This store is truly a wonder. The variety of the stuff here is just unbelievable. You've got anything from Persian rugs and sofas to antique tables and lamps. 3 years ago we ordered a custom sofa for our house. And despite our two children constantly jumping, walking, and running on the sofa. It hasn't even took a dent! All the cushions are still the same shape. We have even took out the fabrics and washed them in a washing machine multiple times. Even with all the washing the color of the fabric has not worn off at all. To this day the sofa looks like it was just bought a week ago! Safe to say this is one of the best stores in the universe in terms of quality, variety, and customer service. I have been dealing with Michael for about a dozen years. I started by being drawn into his State Street store by his rugs. I had been looking for about two years at all the 'name' places and their stuff just wasn't interesting. With five minutes of being in Rugs and More I had found just what I wanted. I dragged my wife in and she fell in love with it, too. Since then I have bought two more nice rugs and numerous pieces of furniture. Michael is such a warm, personable and knowledgeable person with so many unique interesting pieces that it is almost like walking through a museum. Not everything suits my home but I am always fascinated with the one-of-a-kind items. Go down to lower Olive Street and just walk around the warehouse like store. Recent experience with Santa Barbara Design Center reaffirms the excellent experience from my Yelp review from years ago. Looked all over for buying or reupholstering two club chairs and an ottoman. Friends provided contacts they knew, but Sam and the SB Design Center provided input and a lower price than could be found elsewhere, even with little upholstery shops in town. The fabric Sam found was excellent and at a good price. Note the pictures. I feel assured to continue to depend on MIchael and Sam to provide quality service and products. We purchased a recliner back in June 2019. The chair is great, but was delivered without any paperwork at all or anything identifying the chair manufacturer. I called and they said that they would send me the warranty. I thought that this would include info. on the chair maker too. They did, but it was just a note from the Santa Barbara Design Center saying that their firm offered the warranty. That's nice, but I wrote a note to them and asked them to provide information on the chair manufacturer. No response. More calls and emails. Three months later and I get a rude note from Michael Kourosh basically saying that he would have the manufacturer provide a lesser warranty since I had said that his wasn't good enough. I never said that. He still didn't identify the chair maker! Nothing is wrong with SB Design Centers' warranty and I had never said that. I spent over $4,000 on a chair and they won't let me know who made it! Not only that, but they threaten me with reducing my warranty because I asked the question! Unbelievable. read more
