When a spring broke on my garage door, I had that terrible feeling that I was locked in my home. I called Santa Barbara & Ventura County Overhead Door. They responded very quickly and sent Jacob out to assist. He quickly identified the problem, gave me a quote, and proceeded to replace the spring. I was very impressed with Jacob. He communicated quite well and replaced the spring in a very efficient manner. He was personable and friendly. He worked hard & did not waste any time. In addition, he performed free preventive maintenance which included inspection, lubrication, tightening bolts, etc. Furthermore, he replaced the chains on both of my door openers with belts. The doors now seem to operate in a smoother fashion. Today we had our gorgeous new wooden garage doors installed by Ryan and Derek. These are not your average garage doors, and required quite a bit of technical work, as it is recommend you use a heavy duties opener, and not your standard opener. This requires much more work. The guys were both professional, and polite, and worked from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m, until they were finished, and everything was working properly. I needed some custom work to install a garage door in an adobe garage built in 1941. The old door was an inferior one piece that didn't close properly, and the opening was a non-standard size. Our experience parallels that of Elizabeth R., only worse. We were told it would take 1-2 days to install 3 garage doors. The company rescheduled twice before finally starting over two weeks after the initial start date. Suddenly 2 consecutive days were not scheduled for our job, and each "next available" day was days, or even a week or more later. Mind you a day starts about 10 am and can end as early as 2 pm. We learned we were not going to have the experienced installer promised and it showed. A strut on one door was installed in the wrong place, and no one from the installer to the manager said a word- instead we were sent a bill for an incomplete job. After a rather contentious conversation with the manager, I contacted the owner. She reacted appropriately and sent an experienced technician out to correct the problems - it took him almost six hours to complete. As he was leaving- six weeks after installation began- he said he was told to ask for immediate final payment. While discussing that previously undisclosed request, I happened to punch one door opener on the wall- it didn't work! I got an email the next day demanding to know when I would be delivering a check. I mailed it and hope to never have to deal with this company again. In retrospect, there were warning signs. A couple of years ago it took months to get an opener ordered from this company, and I had to call them to check status rather than them calling me. I hope they are able to work through their issues, as we always want to support family owned local companies, but it seems this may not be a isolated occurrence. read more

I got a four hour window where they might come, he called me early and gave me a heads up on his other jobs and he was there with in the first half hour of the window. We bought a new motor unit and he replaced everything from the 1989 chain drive and switched it over to a belt drive, put in all new wiring, put a new keypad, put in the sensors, and helped me set it up and get my car and phone working to open the door, and then greased the thing up and explained it very succinctly & simply. Somehow he got it all done in about an hour and a half. It works great, the price was affordable and I wish we had done the sooner! read more

I used Santa Barbara Overhead door to install a gate at my home a couple years ago, and was very pleased with the service at that time. Now 2 years later, the gate is acting up. I have been working with them since the end of December (it is now the beginning of February), and have had truly the worst service ever. Original technician diagnosed a new circuit board was needed. A couple weeks go by, and I had received no call back or status. I called them and find out the new board had not been ordered, was needing the Owners approval, and he was out on a maternity leave. I had to wait for the owner to return to work. He called me when he got back, and we decided to send a 2nd technician out to make sure what the problem was. Next guy comes out 2 weeks ago, and diagnoses a different problem, and needs to order a different part. 2 weeks goes by, and no call back and no status. I was forced to make the call out to them yet again. They now tell me they have lost a key staff member, and are now unable to accurately diagnose the problem or repair it. They tell me to call another company! Incredible lack of customer service, and a disappointment that they will not stand by the work they originally did. I highly recommend you stay away from this company - very poor service and follow through. read more

We had SB Overhead repair an older "tilt up" door. The mechanic did the job with great attention to detail. The repair involved replacing the broken springs with new ones. He cleaned and lubed all moving parts. Technically the repair was complete, we had new springs but the effort needed for opening and closing was uneven. The mechanic found the mounting frame from the installation was misaligned - even I had noticed for years the door hung quite unevenly. So the mechanic spent an extra 40 minutes fine tuning the tension on all the moving parts to compensate as best as possible and give us the most balanced performance. read more

Scott did a great job servicing our old one-piece garage door. The hardware had gotten really loud and made clattering noises when we opened and closed it with the opener. When he was done lubricating the door and adjusting it, the noise was dramatically reduced and the motion was smooth--a huge improvement.
