I have fond memories spending time in libraries at a young age. We booked an appointment online to renew our passports at this location. The young man, Quellen (I hope I spelled his name correctly) who helped us, was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. Front desk staff were also very pleasant. The atmosphere of this library is calm and is well maintained. Would definitely come back to this location to book passport services or if ever in the area, utilize library services. read more

This is one of the few places that makes it so easy to do a first time passport for a minor! We seriously came prepared and were in and out within seven minutes. Make sure you book online for your appointment and it can take like three or four weeks in advance! read more

This library is easy to find as it's right in the center of Santa Clarita near all of the car dealerships. I had to go here to meet with someone. Upon arriving I noticed that this was a very basic library compared to the many others in the area. I encountered a couple people during my short time there. No one was friendly or welcoming. No one said hi to us as we arrived. My child even noticed it. With so many other libraries near by, I don't think I'll be going back. Libraries are supposed to be a nice place for the community to come together. So it's always nice when you can go to one that's warm. read more

I have been to this public library once a long long time ago. It is somewhat big with a lot of resources. NIce and clean here. Parking was a little bit of a challenge, but it was plenty of it if you knew where to park. They have up to date magazines and books. Great computers and all with a good childrens library . Library is right near the shopping centers and all. Nice staff and good security here too. Not sure on when I could ever visit again, since I live so far away and never hardly in the area. read more

I am a steady patron of this library branch and am glad to see improvements keep happening. The addition of the outside self serve kiosk is awesome. It allows you to pick up your library materials 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Simply search your books and movies online at home, check them out and select kiosk pickup , and in a day or so you will get an email letting you know they are ready for pickup. At the kiosk you scan your library card and enter your pin. Then one of the kiosk's doors opens and you retrieve your materials. It's great that this allows patrons to be able to retrieve their loaned materials when the library is closed. I have also noticed there have been many more community and child programs in the multipurpose room on several days of the month. They seem to be very successful. I hear library staff have to say that they are full today almost every time there is an event. So check them out and sign up early! This library is very clean and kept in order. You have to still go the the desk to get any holds you have unless of course you choose the kiosk. Another plus for kiosk pickup in my opinion. The staff are all very considerate and helpful. They have also added passport processing services near the front. Hopefully the city revitalizes the former Sheriff station into some kind of community center to help the civic center area. read more

My daughter and I decided to check this library out this morning and I have to say we had a wonderful experience! Upon arrival, we got signed up for a library card and the girl was so helpful. The selection of books for little is incredible! We got some wonderful books to read this week. The helper in the children's section even asked if she could help us in anyways while we browsed for books. Check out was a breeze. I definitively will be coming back for more books for my girl often. read more

While I had really enjoyed coming here in the past, today was an awful experience. I came in to use the computers and sat down next to a person who was literally dismantling one of the computers. I ignored that and sat down. Then the person looked at me and I saw she had no mask on. I said out loud "aren't we supposed to be wearing masks?" and a nearby employee replied yes, so I politely asked the woman to please put one on. She finally did but had it below her nose. When I (again) politely asked her to wear it properly she claimed I was harassing her and I had two separate staff members scold me publicly, which was embarrassing to me, yet nobody enforced proper mask wearing and posing a health risk to the community Shame on these folks read more

The good: I came to open up a library account today and it was quick and pretty easy. You need your license/ID and proof of residence (i.e. bank statement/bill). They have a security guard there and a few library workers despite the slow business. The space is very organized, cleaned, and easy to navigate. The books are all in line and look meticulously organized. They have a separate computer used to send you QR codes specifically for audio or e-books. I was greeted hello and goodbye by the 2 different boys who sat in front (for some kind of kids' pamphlets/activity?). I like the self check out machines and that you can still use the computers/internet to browse things. They also have laptops you can check out. The bad: This library has fewer books than the average and isn't as updated/modern as other public libraries. I didn't see any Vietnamese books (they had these at the other public library I went to). The interesting: Since COVID, you can check out up to 100 books at a time for 3 weeks (it was previously 50 books). read more

The tables are good for studying, lots of computers and couches too. But the place is loud and more like a playground/daycare because kids run around and play hide n seek. I do hope parents are responsible enough to realize that the library is supposed to be a quiet place for people to read, study or write a school paper. One of the best "local" libraries I've been to in LA (okay, so I haven't been to many). Clean and quaint, it looks new on the outside and inside. I especially like the sound proof rooms they have available. I used them twice to provide tutoring to my cousin and her husband on their new smart phones (first time ever using smart phones). The library isn't overly crowded so we weren't being pushed out of the rooms either times due to busy scheduling. Wish the library closest to me was As nice as this one! I'd go more often! read more

I felt kind of like a criminal visiting this library today because it's right next to the courthouse and police station. Which also made it hard to find a parking spot. (And the library wasn't that crowded so you figure it out) When I first went to get my new library card last Saturday, I walked in and was confused. They don't have many informational signs that you can see from where you enter. I finally waited in line and asked for help. Then I was led to a computer area around the corner from the entrance to get my card. First question - "Why didn't you register online?" Uh, I didn't know that was an option. And if I had registered online, I would still be here at the same computer getting my card here. This was the first time I realized that this library is pretty hands off. Although they appear to be over staffed, the staff members are there to monitor and not assist, in my opinion. I think this is great, but not for a new library user. I went online when I got home and set up my online account, and ordered a few books to read. They do let you order books from other libraries within Los Angeles County. Today I received an email that I had books on hold. Again, I enter the library, look around for an informational sign (none) and stood in line. (There wasn't anyone at the Information Desk both times I've visited now.) The librarian pointed me to a wall of bookshelves and said the book holds were self help. I told her this was the first time I've checked out a book here and if she could help me. She did. (Why didn't the lady who gave me my library card given me a bit of information or a quick tour?) We located my books on the holds bookshelf and then went to one of the 6 computer monitors they have for checkouts. *Note: You have to know your 4 digit PIN to check out your books. Overall, the library is clean and new and obviously safe since there are police right next door. Both times I've visited they have had several special needs children in the waiting area, which I'm mentioning because I witnessed children asking their parents about them (so you'll be prepared if you're bringing your kids). Their book selection is limited and even online they don't have some of the newer titles that Ventura County Library carried. But, this is an example of tax dollars at work and for that, I appreciate being able to enjoy free books, A/C and WiFi :) read more

Why the low star rating? I love this library. The staff is nice and friendly. Their checkout system is self-service, they don't skimp out on the a/c, and it's very organize. The selection may be small compared to LA libraries but it is expected of a small, quiet town. Parking is a breeze and there are 2 book drop-off boxes outside. What is there to complain about? This is a medium sized library. Unlike the Newhall library which all have the modern whistles and bells..this one takes you in time where libraries were simple mundane and plain. Not a hip place to be in. They have a wide selection of books and dvds. Because all is close proximity, noise is louder. You can hear conversations between people on the phone, students,staff and visitors. This place is perfect for Web browsing. But not a great place for intense studies where quiet is a must. I looked around, tugged at my shirt collar (made some Three Stooges Curly sound), CAUGHT! Yes, I'm watching schmaltzy 90's t.v. Shit, I just gave up drinking and need something to jog memories of my teen years. But did she have to announce it. Her voice carried. It would've been better if I was at CVS getting a price check on ass wart cream. Anyway...this library is dark. Dark in the 70's era kinda' way. You're in the center of municipality. Courthouses, police and other things that make people uncomfortable. The library is really difficult to find. I drove around three times around Newhall Ranch Road to Citrus like that damn scene from "European Vacation"..."Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament..." Parking stinks. I did get a REALLY gnarled up copy of "Air America." The movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Mel Gibson (pre-anti-semite). It was so gnarled so bad, it made crazy noises in my dvd player (remember those?). Naturally I took it out and put it back into the case for the next unsuspecting...who am I kidding, that thing's never gonna ever be checked out ever again. read more

I have always affiliated the library with a quiet place to study with a librarian that is gentle and friendly and wants to help u find book to read because she's concerned about literacy, it's a warm and fuzzy kind of location for learning. This library is far from it. Lifetimes away. Although we continue to use this library because it is the closest to our house - it really needs upgrading and improving. The staff really don't want to help, they want you to do all of the legwork yourself. I called the other day with four books to look up and the guy clearly told me I'm sorry but I can't keep looking up books for you. You're the librarian! You're supposed to look up books for us. So disappointed in the lack of motivation by the staff to ensure any kind of comfort, learning environment, and even keeping the peace. Parents let their kids run around this place hogwild. If your children, want a library card they need to sign something to give YOU permission to see what they're reading! What the hell kind of place is this? Clearly the kids have it all here. They can control their parents, not give permission to the parents to see what material they are reading, appropriate or not appropriate, and they can run around this place hogwild like they own the place. Better since adding the self-checkout kiosks and such. This library was in desperate need of a technological makeover, and it's finally coming along nicely. The book selection is still pretty dated, but I don't think it's the library's fault. Since opening a card account takes two seconds, there's no reason not to get one and take advantage of the air conditioning for as long as possible. Now they offer free wi-fi too...another incentive to hang out. Tip: If the parking lot in front of the building is crowded (they share it with the courthouse and police station next door), go a bit further on Valencia and try the back lot. It's at least double the size and equidistant to the front door. read more

I was a bit disappointed that such a beautiful and modern city has such an outdated and small library. The childrens books look old and there aren't any play areas or toys except for the computers. Pretty decent library for a smallish town that is Santa Clarita. I've been coming here off and on for years throughout my childhood, but I've lost track of my card and moved a few times since coming in here again the other day. I was in a hurry, so I didn't get to scope out the place for long, but I found a couple of fictions on my book list easily enough. The self checkouts are a nice new touch, easy and fast! They've got book returns outside the building too so if you're in a hurry you don't need to go inside. The one caveat I had was the process of getting a library card. I understand having an ID, but they also need an address. You can't just tell the librarians your address though, they need to see it on some form or another. As a person who just moved, it was tricky but luckily I had bought something on Amazon a few days before and was able to use that as proof. Other than that, I will probably be frequenting this library for my book borrowing needs! read more

Staff: We have been here a few times and the staff have been very helpful & friendly. Book Inventory: This location seems to be a bit more limited then the Newhall location but ordering specifics on their online catalog is accessible also within the library on their systems or through your own computer at home. Pick Ups: I've been able to order a couple books that I was looking for through the catalog and picked them up a couple to few days later. There is a designated wall - right hand side of the reception. Checking Out: Their modern kiosk system is speedy, simple & user friendly. Just place & stack up to four items at a time on the designated area and the titles are instantaneously scanned into the computer! Privacy: There are a couple of "fish bowl" study rooms for seclusion or privacy. Hours: It is open every day, more limited on weekends (closes at 5pm), but generously stays open until 9pm on weekdays. Returning: there is a Return drop provided outside of the library or even within the library, you can watch the books on an LCD screen, slide down a conveyor belt & get sorted by machines! The Valencia branch is a little old and outdated. Perhaps that might change when the court and sheriff's station relocate. As for the library in general, I'm a bit disappointed at their selection of newer material. Often I can't find newly released books in their system but can usually find them in the LA County system. I'm finding myself going to an LA County Library branch more and more often for this reason. read more

I am not sure why this library system opened up. It is of no use to anyone, other than people who are just looking for books, and not doing anything else. A library is for people to do work, for students, and others with businesses. While it is also a place where people should be able to come and just sit and read, unfortunately, because of the lack of control, and fear the employees have had of certain patrons, the hours are now limited. I blame the library system for allowing certain people in the past, to come into the library and ruin the experience for those that are really there for a reason. The bottom line is this: either open the library so that everyone can use it, all services, or close it down. The employees here have it easy to say the least. The are off on Sunday, and Monday, and Monday is a busy day for students and those doing business. It is time for this library system to stop acting like the santa clarita valley is this small, quiet place with few people who do nothing. You can find lot of reading options here, when I go in I know what I want so my visits are super fast, in and out in 15 min or so. This location has great kids books as well. My goodness the loudest library I've ever been in. I had some serious studying to do for a medical exam tomorrow and everywhere I went staff was constantly talking. I first went to a cubicle where 2 staff members were putting away books talking in a regular volume the entire time. Then went to a study room where I could clearly hear the front desk staff talking at regular volume and also a continuous slamming door from behind the wall. Not the typical library "whisper" at this place. I also walked past a man on the computer watching some serious porn. I decided to go back home for peace and quiet. My favorite library in the SCV area! Lots of quiet places for studying/reading, including desks and study carrels near the back. I've had nothing but great experiences with the staff who are patient and helpful. Their interlibrary loan system makes it easy to request books from other library branches in Santa Clarita and pick them up at this location. read more
