I've visited just about every library in the Santa Clarita Valley, and the Old Town Newhall Branch truly stands out. The design of the library is beautiful, and there are so many amenities that I seem to discover something new each time I visit. The facility is extremely well managed and maintained, and you can tell that safety and security are taken seriously, which makes it a comfortable place to spend time reading or working. I'd also like to recognize a staff member named Jacqueline, who consistently greets guests with a warm smile and friendly hello. Her professionalism and welcoming attitude make a real difference. Jacqueline could probably teach a class on customer service--she's that good. This library is a real asset to the community. read more

One of the most impressive libraries I've ever been to! Loved the parking lot size, the floor separation of teens/children to adults, and the comfortable and updated furniture inside. There are several staff that are approachable and easy to get assistance from, and bathrooms are kept clean. I definitely think this is a great spot to get work done, the wifi speed is quicker than my data around the area with my low network speeds!! Already want to come back here again!! read more

My husband and I had the worst experience with the lady who does passports . The moment we got there , early for our appointments, she was so bothered. She was so passive aggressive and unkind. The story is long so I'll just leave it at that. We ended up leaving bc she made us feel so uncomfortable . The manager was really nice though , David I think . I have been to this library a few times for different reasons and it's definitely a great resource for the community. This is where they have the Farmers Market on Saturdays. They also have nice free events. We went to a dinosaur party where they gave out free snacks and hot cocoa. It's a nice size with a good kids area. The librarians are friendly too. We also went for Passport Services which was so so nice! You have to make an appointment, so it's a quick and easy process. My kids got to hang out and look at books while the adults did their thing. Also we forgot to bring checks. So the lady helping us was super patient and she let me go get checks from the bank which took about 20 minutes. We were the last appointment of the day so we weren't holding anyone else up. I was grateful to not have to go back to take care of if. Anyway all in all we really like this library! read more

So I had to renew my kid's passport. I definitely wanted to avoid Van Nuys. So they gave me 3 locations all near Valencia/Newhall/Santa Clarita area. They are appointment only. I set my appointment for 9:30 am and arrived at 9:12. I had all my files prefilled and a check book for the fees. There was plenty of parking and the library is really nice. I announced my arrival and the worker was able to help us immediately as the 9 am appointment never showed. We were done in 10 mins. It was such a breeze. I remember waiting hours in line in past years. This is the way to go for your passport services. Then we bought a bunch of books for .35. This place is awesome! read more

The architecture in this library is awesome. It's modern, but not the annoying and boring kind. It also gives a very rustic and warm feel to it in the adults section upstairs, especially due to the wooden ceiling . The staff here are always nice and greet you when you enter. There are also sections for kids and teens. It's super quite and there are very many seats which I enjoy since sometimes I want to be alone, near people, sit back, sit upright, etc. Basically the best library I've ever visited in LA... well near LA. read more

This is a fairly new library in Newhall, California. It is much more convenient than a one story library and it is my favorite library in Santa clarita. Outside, it is located on a street and has two entrances. The first entrance is facing the street and there is a back entrance located by a parking lot. The parking lot is big enough so that there is no problem parking. The environment is quiet and there are also boxes to put books into when you are required to return them on a given day. It looks like a giant cabin from the outside. Inside, there is a clean and spacious interior. When walking in, there are two bathrooms to the left with an exhibit room for people to socialize. Sometimes I see children interacting with others on projects for school. There are detectors before walking truly inside the library. Once in, there are children's computers and books to the left. Further up ahead, there is a concierge for those who have questions. To the left of this concierge is a teenage section for teens to socialize. Also, there is a computer lab for those who have to take tests or use the computer. Next to the computer lab are rows of books for teens. Upstairs, there are another set of bathrooms, but these bathrooms require a library card key to enter. You can ask the person at the concierge to issue you a library card at no cost. You provide them with a little information about yourself which takes about 2-3 minutes and they make you the card. They are very friendly and courteous. You will also find upstairs, another set of computers. These are typically used by adults. There are laptops you can rent out and private rooms for meetings or places to study. I usually see multiple people inside. These rooms must be reserved beforehand and require a special key to enter. On the other side upstairs, there are plenty of adult books for people to read and a complete silence rule. Many people break this rule and the concierge upstairs tells them to quiet down. Personally I sit by the window and read while watching the view. It is peaceful to me. Overall, my experience here is excellent. If you need a place to study and calm down. The library is a perfect place to settle down and relax. On a side note, you can also print from all the computers inside. It will come at a cost of 0.10 cents per page. I also noticed elevators for those who are handicapped and free wifi. read more

I have no idea why this place does not have 5 stars. I absolutely love it. I went a couple of weeks ago to get a library card. The librarian was so nice and took so much time explaining all the benefits that come with the card. The facility is also very well kept really clean and offers a lot of services for readers of all ages. A lot of reviews complained about the homeless, but I was there for an hour and didn't see anyone from the homeless population during my visit. Also, in order to use the restrooms, you need a library card to open them so they are kept clean. read more

I am such a huge fan of this library! I come here every weekend with the little girl I babysit & we always have the best time here. Atmosphere: One of my favorite things about this library is how pretty & well kept up this place is. You would never know that this library has been around for as long as it has. It's a two story library with beautiful outside seating as well. This place is even better at night since they have twinkly lights all around the library. Book selection: book selection gets a 5/5 at least for the kids selection that is (that's all I've explored.) They have an amazing kids section in this library so if you have kids & are looking for a library this is definitely your place. They also provide computers in this section for kids to play on that offer all kinds of educational kid friendly games. This is a beautiful library on the outside, and it is also very updated on the inside. We like going here during the farmers market on Saturday. It's well lit inside, and there is a section for children which includes some activities they can play on the wall. I had to apply for a passport for the first time and saw that this library had the option of both taking your photo and submitting your application, so I was willing to make the drive from Simi Valley to Newhall for it. Everything was going well at my appointment, until I realized I had left my ID at home I was mortified, I had been so caught up in all the other papers I needed to have that I neglected to check my wallet. The woman who works at the passport services department, I believe her name was Jan, she literally saved me. She was kind enough to take her lunch brunch early so I could come back with my ID once I had made the trek to go back and get it. It was a small gesture that I really appreciated, had she not been kind and made me reschedule, I likely wouldn't have gotten my passport in time for my trip. So, if the library happens to read this review, give Jan a raise! She's a gem and saved me a lot of stress. Also, this library is adorable, parking was convenient and the other librarian I spoke with was nice as well. If you need to apply for a passport in person, I couldn't recommend this library more. 10/10 thanks again Jan! read more

I used to go to the library in Downtown LA almost weekly, this is not it. But it is cute and has a lot of nice little features. The staff is very friendly and willing to help you. There is computer access if you are a student and need to study and there are DVDs as well as books on tape if you are not really into reading. read more

Was very impressed with the program they put together for the Literacy Festival. So many fun activities for families. This is a Beautiful Library and I know they try to keep it clean, specially the bathrooms, they're clean and they don't stink but....Hello? Has anybody noticed the homeless and people coming in, to take naps? Even one of the ladies at the front desk, acknowledged them and said that there's nothing they can do.....what???!!!! And what about the bums hanging outside too??? Hang on to your values...scary...oh and try having a quiet reading in that place, everyone's phones going off and talking and texting all loud and no one seems to care. Even the guy and younger gal, in the second floor that are there to help people, they're so loud as well. What's wrong with this people..... I just got an email for it today, I don't need it anymore. Online it said it was already available for renting the day I picked it out, so what happened? One of the roomiest and well designed libraries I have been in. There is no lack of computers or empty tables to study. The children's section is separate from the adult section upstairs so it is a perfect getaway for both adults and children. I think that most of the exciting programming is implemented here as well so it is a great place to be centered in - especially if you are an artistic type. The local area contains art establishments so it is truly a hub of activity. Enjoy a day at Newhall library and take a stroll through Old Town when you are done. You will have a great day! read more

As I sit here, sunk into my nice comfy chair in front of a great big roaring fire in a beautiful fireplace, I feel a review is in order. Since my fairly recent stint with unemployment, I've actually been here a few times. With each visit I'm still amazed by the massive vault of information and modern amenities known as the Newhall Library. The place is relatively new compared to the other libraries in the area. Just three years ago this place opened up, compared to the far older Canyon Country and Valencia Libraries this place is insanely modern. This place is also huge. Two stories of train-station appearing building. Great locally taken historical murals are printed up on the walls. Right alongside all that history, this place has some pretty state of the art features. The lights over the bookshelves are motion sensored, so if there's nobody there, they go off to save power. Electrical outlets are sprinkled about all over the place, to charge whatever portable devices are running low on power. They're even flip up concealed in many of the study tables. Grey laptop needs food....badly! Several of the secluded study rooms have flatscreens and couches in them. As I mentioned above, there's even a fireplace that runs on the colder days. If your into the digital books instead of the paper ones, there is a table absolutely full of anchored down techno devices to read your digital books on. The computer areas have dozens of public computers for personal use. All the while, an easy to access wi-fi bubble wafts about lazily in the air. Up on the second floor there are massive windows, with a row of ever occupied chairs in front of them. The chairs have flip-out tables for devices or notebooks to rest on. Should a brain fart occur, people can sit in comfort and stare out at the mountainous Newhall scenery until they feel the strike of inspiration for their school projects...or their facebook updates. Gone are the painted construction paper signs, in favor of newer digital flatscreen displays that are hung all over the place. Constantly informing the public of the library's upcoming happenings. The bathrooms even have library card scanners for access into them. I suppose I'll have to get one of those should I feel the need to pee on future visits. The librarians are fairly regularly placed, and super helpful with any library related questions you might think of. This is an absolutely amazing library. Good job Newhall. Although this is a particularly fantastic shining example of a library, I don't want to this review to undermine my respect and reverence for all libraries. All libraries are wonderful places. Ever growing repositories of infinite knowledge and extremly helpful people to help you find what you're looking for within them. Great new library, the crown jewel of the new and controversial city library system. The building is new and modern. There is a fair amount of displays and decor that give a nod to our valley's history which is great. There are a lot of computers in an adult section and a teen section. When I stopped by about 75% of the terminals were in use which is great. The library does not have a lot of shelf space. I have been to libraries in other cities and was amazed at the rows and rows of books. Not here though. Even worse is that the shelves that are there have bare sections. In the adult section, all the bottom level shelves were empty. Some of the upper shelves were only half filled with some of the spaces filled in with books turned sideways to make them look fuller. We found a book to check out and the computer catalog directed us to the section to find the book. But there was no section in the library that was labeled the same as it was in the computer. We attempted to get help, but there were lines of people waiting for help. We waited for a while but the line never moved. We opted to leave without the book. While this is certainly an improvement over the old Newhall branch, it's clear that there is demand for this library and I hope there are continued improvements in staffing and the quantity of books stocked. read more

I love this library. Great for studying or hanging out. There are so many computers -- even my teenager likes to go. They are starting to have a lot of interesting classes. The children's library looks great. My only complaints are 1) a lot of the staff are volunteers and need to get help from a paid staff member to do things or answer questions and 2) many of the patrons don't really know how to behave in a library. They take phone calls, talk loudly, bring in food. The library needs some signs or more staff to help educate the patrons. read more

This place is a joke! I went here to try to attempt to complete a reference assignment for a class and pretend to ask a question. Whoever "tried" to help me never seemed interested in me or my question, which I learned a person on reference should be approachable and interested. Well, this person could care less what I asked and seemed like they did not have any knowledge in conducting a reference interview. But I should not have been surprised since I knew beforehand there are no full time librarians who work here. What a great way to save money I guess. I came back once for another assignment and it was just to collect marketing information and that was it thank the Lord. I will continue to visit the new Stevenson Ranch library instead and boycott the city of Santa Clarita Libraries and LSSI. read more

What a lovely library! Its one of my all-time favorite libraries! Its a really great place to get work done. Its absolutely massive and really beautiful it really adds so much character and life into downtown Newhall. The big fireplace upstairs is so lovely. Lots of study rooms and big tables. Great kids area! The teens area has all of the textbooks for the local school, so they can do their homework at the library without hauling them around all day. Not a huge selection of books in comparison with all the shelves in this massive library but it has a fair selection and if you are willing to wait they can bring in anything you want to read. read more

This new library is so nice! It is a lot bigger than the old one & has a large computer lab & various areas to sit & read. You can also request a book to check-out online & go there to pick it up in their "hold" area. They also have a kids section downstairs that is separated from the rest of the library. The new Old Town Newhall Library is incredible. It is right at the start/end (whatever way you are driving) of Main St. This huge two story library is an excellent place to do homework, study, read, or just get away. It doesn't have a lot of paperback books, but there are plenty of computers to use. If you go upstairs, there is a lending desk that will let you check out a laptop to use and check out a meeting room if you need to be a little more vocal. That same desk can also assist you with the digital book checkout and any other question you might have. The upstairs is full of couches, desks, and lounge chairs so you can find the right place to get your work done. I think the coolest thing there is the book return. It's fully automated and sorts the books as they are returned. The librarian said it makes putting books back 1000 time easier and allows them to spend their time helping their customers rather than putting books away This is definitely my new place to study and get some work done without the distractions. read more
