Truly, this is one of the worst run government colleges I've ever been to. I've been coming here, off and on for several years and recently, it's really gone down. Apparently, there's a new dean and whatever he's been doing has only degraded the campus and its services. The internet literally is as slow as dial up. You can't get onto any websites or do searches. It's stunning to think that a college can't have adequate Wi-Fi service. Besides, that, the ceramics department, which used to be fabulous, is now barely, "so, so". It's amazing that New Mexico is known for ceramics and clay and this college seems to be doing everything they can to cut the ceramics course out. The attendance is 1/2 of what it was just last year. For myself, I won't be coming back again to attend classes. It used to be a place I loved to come to when I had an extended stay in Santa Fe. read more

So, out of the blue, the school cancelled Fall 2022 Commencement Ceremony 19 days before it was to happen. Supposedly due to COVID/flu risk (which has been steady for many many months). However, I was told by a source within the school staff that the real reason is that they weren't happy with the number of students who RSVP'd to participate. So the cancellation is actually just an attempt to save money and labor. If true, this is 100% unfair to all those young men and women who worked for years to EARN the right to a commencement ceremony. And to their families who have ALREADY booked flights and hotels to come celebrate their special day with their sons and daughters. In general, the art department offers a wide range of beginner and advanced drawing and painting classes. These courses are terrific for students who are learning technical and creative skills for the first time or as a refresher. The cost of the courses is very reasonable for students who have residency in Santa Fe. And the east side food court offers great food and beverages provided by students who are in the culinary program. read more

Money hungry business. That will cancel commencement at the last minute and pretend like it's no big deal. There are so many other programs out there that care about you graduating....don't fall for this one. If it saves them money they will screw you over and find some dumb reason why graduation needs to be combined or why graduation isn't possible for "you". Absolutely horrible! Having attended quite a few colleges for classes over the years, I think I'm qualified to review this community college on a couple different aspects including the art department and the student hangout spot, which conveniently houses the food court area. Regarding the art department: all the teachers are totally dedicated toward their students and a wealth of knowledge. The facilities are first rate and all the equipment is on the same tier as most state colleges you might find around the western section of the United States. My only complaint is that the campus closes on extended holidays like Spring Break and a few other times around the year which make general access to the equipment difficult to schedule around... Part of this is due to the fact that the college relies on people who are dependant on financial aid to vollunteer to keep sections of the campus open in off hours and won't allow qualified other students and vollunteers to pick up the slack. So it's a beaurocratic issue and will probably never be solved, but I wanted to float that out there to people reading this review. The cafeteria / Food Court is pretty damn awesome. The selection is pretty geared towards New Mexico style food, but it's good... and totally affordable. Burritos can be made to order and the salads and soups are impressive. I tend to think that this could be attributed to the excellent food-service classes that the campus offers for aspiring chefs... Sure, it isn't a nationally accredited chef's specialty school, but I've seen some amazing chefs teach classes here and have yet to see a dud. read more

Santa Fe Community College will always hold a special place in my heart. All of my instructors were good, and most were very, very good! I would say that a few were even exceptional. The college has ample staff to assist students in all aspects of pursuing their educational goals, and everyone I have dealt with has always been courteous, friendly, and helpful. Also worth mentioning is that the facilities are really very nice: the outdoor spaces, the classrooms, and the common areas are all well-maintained and inviting. The food service is quite good as well. Now that I am pursuing my four-year degree at another institution, these are all things I deeply miss about SFCC. If you are thinking about returning to school, or earning your GED so that you can pursue a degree or certificate, don't wait another day. SFCC will change your life for the better.
