Just pure beauty! I've visited this beach a couple of times over the last few years and each time I'm amazed by how beautiful it is. We came out today around 10 am and there were only a handful of folks out. It was super peaceful out there and the water is this beautiful turquoise color that is absolutely gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful beach! We were here in late April for my brother's wedding and instead of doing any wedding-related work (hey, I was on vacation!) we spent two glorious days at the beach, which was a very short walk from our rental house. The small and more upscale beach town of Santa Rosa is beautiful and there were a number of good news places to grab something to eat or beach shops to pick up extra sunscreen, beach toys, towels, etc. While we were there, the beach wasn't crowded but I'm not sure if we just lucked out. Growing up in Florida I do think this is a beautiful beach fabulous water when it's still it's blue, however since I am a mom hate this coast rip tides we went first full week of April and could never get into the water rip tide to bad red flags. Cudos for the beach and it's public safety flags but we won't be back love a beach wo continual rip tides we can get in and jump waves and boogie board safely . We will be back to the east coast beaches for sure. I will say we did go to the inlet while we were there to snorkel and calm waters except near the point Current bad not sure actual rip tide but I couldn't get back to shore wo swimming with coast line and not going in there either not for kids for sure! read more

The beach at Santa Rosa was beautiful, and for the possible exception of Trunk Beach on St. John, the best I have ever seen. If you have a young family, like to bike, go to the beach, and cook your own food in a nice rental unit--this area makes for a great vacation if you are driving there with everything you need. The area has been over-built with housing, and most of the new construction going on is for more housing for rental income and second homes. There are not enough restaurants or entertainment venues to support the volume of visitors there during the busy season, so you may have some long waits. Be sure the first thing you do upon arriving is to fill your gas tank, as a major station near us was out of gas. I would want to see pictures of the place I was going to rent before signing up. I expected a high end unit based on what we paid, but were sorely disappointed. The closest major airport to fly into is Fort Walton, and the drive can take an hour with the traffic, which goes down to two lanes causing quite a bottleneck. The rental company we dealt with had a lot of information to read, and if a property owner ever had a problem with a renter, or event which caused them from getting paid--it was covered in our contract. Even if an oil spill closed the beaches-you would still have to pay. NO REFUNDS. If your renting a unit with a garage for your car, be advised the owner may be storing his kayaks, bikes, grill, and so much beach stuff you will not be able to use it. I know there are several rental agencies, so check more than one. The earlier you book, the better your chances of finding a place for a reasonable cost, that is right for you.
