We did a bike tour in Barcelona and then found this place right at sort of an intersection because the other recommended place was closed due to holidays. First the service was great, again, my Spanish is a 0, but they were great. Asking if we were eating or drinking only and if we wanted to sit outside as inside spots were all done. Then we were provided menus in both English and Spanish. We ordered and this was one of the rare places that actually digitally entered stuff as we went. Food arrived and each was delicious. I was disappointed in the service here, I felt as though the staff were overall unfriendly. Usually I would just leave the restaurant if I felt this way but the attitude switch came after we had already ordered. Most of the food we had was great - bread with tomato, ham croquettes, cheese plate. Surprisingly though, the patatas bravas were very dry and just off tasting. Wonderful tapas restaurant in the Gothic district. A sales person at my jeans store recommended this place based on where our hotel was located. Made a reservation as it gets pretty busy. Expect close quarters and small tables. We don't speak Spanish so we were scratching our heads with the menu. I then asked for some help and she smiled and brought over the English menu. From then on, we were golden! We ordered the Iberian ham, artisans cheese board, croquettes, meatballs, sea bass ceviche, and the grilled asparagus. Everything was excellent - the jamon was 18 euro's but totally worth it! Finished off with two desserts: apple pie with ice cream and Tres Leches cake. Excellent. After trying to get in on 2 other occasions (and it being packed), we decided to give it another try. We went on a Monday night and it was still packed, but the friendly bartender/hostess showed us options for seating. We opted to sit at the window on bar stools, overlooking the square. Our waitress approached us from the outside and made some recommendations and took our order. She was excellent and attentive, despite the crowds. We decided on Tapas, and ordered: Chorizo Sausage in a Provolone cheese sauce. It was one of the specials and it was excellent ! I'd rank it as one of the best tapas we've had in Barcelona. Grandma's Meatballs - excellent small meatballs, moist, flavorful, in a word, wonderful. Chicken with red peppers and garlic - while good, we found this bland compared to the other dishes. Don't get me wrong, they were good, just weaker than the other dishes. Potato Bravias - wedges as opposed to cubes (that we've had at other places.). Excellent quality of food. The hostess popped by about 1/2 hr after we were seated and asked if we were happy with our seating...she even wished us a good night from her scooter as she was leaving. Great customer focus service. Highly recommend. read more

We came here for NYE and there was a fixed menu for the occasion. Our favorite starter was the monkfish and cod fritters which were light and fluffy, absolutely delicious. The lamb shoulder main dish was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and delicious. The wait staff were friendly and warm. We wanted to try a wine before buying the bottle. The host said she couldn't have us try because it was sold by the bottle, but was so confident we'd like it she said if we didn't she would take it back. She was right! read more

I can't say enough great things about this place. After eating here in 2016 and remembering how great it was, I made it a point to visit again in 2018. It remains one of the best experiences and meals. It is all delicious. Ask for the scallops, sit at the bar, and hang out. The bartenders make some great drinks too. You can't go wrong. read more

Cozy atmosphere but food wasn't any good. I had fried calamari, patatas bravas, seabass ceviche, bread and mushroom risotto. None of it was any good. Fried calamari - like if I had bought it at the supermarket. Patatas bravas - like home made in the oven. Seabass ceviche - not cooked long enough in the lime juices. Tasted too raw. Bread - dry Mushroom risotto - just wasn't any nice flavour but the consistency was good. Service was ok but we had to wait 15 minutes for our reservation. read more

This was my favorite restaurant in the whole city of Barcelona. Yes it's a tapas restaurant but it captures the whole essence of the city in one place. The food was impeccable, the service was outstanding. I didn't make a reservation so I just sat at the bar and I personally heard the bartender speak fluent Italian, Spanish and French to three different patrons. Sure, the life is a little slower here so if you're wanting to eat, pay and leave then good luck with that. Plan on staying here a few hours because getting your check immediately after your last bite is unheard of. Take your time, relax, and enjoy Barcelona. The acorn fed Iberian ham was a hit with my husband. The risotto was a hit for me. I'd come back time and time again if I lived here and I'm upset we don't have true tapas in the states. My girlfriend who is generally a steak and fish eater ordered the Black Angus Rib Steak Cooked for 48 Hours (16€). She told me and Estanzo (waiter) that this was the best steak she had ever eaten. I ordered the Roasted Cannelloni w Fois Gras and Mushroom Sauce and it was unique and delicious. Estanzo catered to our finicky wine tasting and had us taste several. Ended up with his original recommendation. The inside tables were a bit cramped and the interior was not air conditioned and too hot so we moved outside. Magical. Pleasant evening air, old Barcelona and interesting street vibe. We learned Estanzo (I hope I got it right) was from Honduras. His service was helpful, respectful and on target. Thank you Estanzo! A perfect evening! We did suggest to complete the romantic atmosphere they might consider getting outside tables that can join or separate as needed. While it was not a big problem, we did not need the company of strangers sitting at the same table with us (outside dining means you might be dining w someone else at your table). Be open and you will have a memorable meal and evening. read more

Then he charged us for 4 portions of bread with our two tapas (12euros) when my wife said she didn't want any but i did. When i brought it up he totally dismissed it and immediately swiped my card. The food here was absolutely fantastic. The portions, while the menu had warned were small, were actually much larger than other tapas restaurants. We tried many of the dishes and each one was fantastic. The place is a little small, (some would call it cozy) so be prepared to have people on top of you or bumping into your chair as they navigate around. It's a very minor complaint for what is otherwise a highlight of Barcelona dining. read more

I was recommended this place by a a friend who was in Barcelona, On our first night we came to dine we were rudely rejected a table because we came in 20 mins before closing, considering that the closing time posted on the website is 1am, we arrived at 11:40 and they closed at 12, so the schedule posted on the website is wrong. We then decided to come the night after to find that we were rejected a table AGAIN because it was a party of 5. Explaining that we had come the night before and would love to eat at their place, we were sent on our way, once again, rudely. We were wandering in the Gothic Quarter looking for a wine bar with some food. The big wine chiller by the bar caught my eye, the menu posted looked like it had enough food to keep us satisfied, and we walked in. Little did I know what we were going to experience. They had some of the best quality wines by the glass in the area. I was travelling with my fiancee and we had some excellent cava to start, then she got a Priorat and I got a Toro that he bartender recommended. The most expensive glass was under 6 Euro and even the lower-priced glasses were of high quality. The bartenders doubled as servers and they were attentive and high energy. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the guests! The restaurant and a big, rectangular bar in the middle, a nice terrace, and an assortment of high top tables and cozy smaller tables and booths in the back. And then the food came... We ate there our second to last night of a 10 day trip and this food was some of the best I ever had. Everything was prepared with care and whoever is in the back doing the sauces and seasonings created flavors a level of intensity I didn't even think possible. It's the kind of food you eat and just smile. It was so good we made a reservation for the next evening and the final meal of our trip! Among the highlights: Grandma's meatballs: They were either pork or veal, garlicy, and served in a sauce made from pork stock and cooked down yellow/orange vegetables. These were not your grandma's red sauce meatballs. One of the best things I ever ate. On my list to try and replicate this. Cod Au Gratin: A big, tender piece of fresh cod baked in the oven with red peppers topped with the house aioli. Each tapas joint has their own type of potatoes bravas and their own kind of aioli. This was the winner. Garlicky, light incredible depths of flavor, somewhat nutty as well. It was like a creamy garlic cloud was sitting on top of the fish. Asparagus with romesco: Best meatballs, best aioli, and best romesco as well. The asparagus was nicely charred and just sprinkled with a coarse sea salt. The Romesco was unique. Somehow this kitchen was able to voodoo a chocolate finish in their romesco. Not sweet chocolate, like mexican mole chocolate. It's odd I know, but it works. read more

Pretty much the best tapas we ate in Barcelona, and we ate a whole lot of tapas. This small, open place on a sort of hidden corner in El Born/La Ribera had a very cozy atmosphere and was full (but not uncomfortably so) of both locals and tourists. We were staying in an AirBnB within shouting distance so we went a few times. The staff was really friendly and recognized us as regulars after a few days...they even helped me pull off a birthday surprise for my travel mate. Service was very smooth, and top dishes were definitely the pulpo (grilled perfectly), the tuna tartar over avocado and the salted cod. Two or three tapas for two people was plenty. The wine selection was varied and not over bearing, and the gin and tonics (one served with ginger, one with thyme) were outstanding. Quite simply an outstanding restaurant and tapas bar. It was very difficult to find in the warren of alleyways and lane ways in this part of Barcelona and well worth the effort. We dropped in early in the day to make a reservation but when we returned at 9 pm, there was no record of our booking. Nonetheless, the manager managed to squeeze us in. The joint was definitely leppin' A great buzz in a very small space with more folk outside on a square in the road. We had a good selection of tapas including the obligatory patatas bravas, some calamari, a very tasty ceviche and a divine mini steak fillet, medium rare, that practically melted on the tongue. A very potable rias baixas accompanied this and, at the end of the meal, I was shamelessly upsold an additional glass of what the receipt says was Copa Salanques at, for Barcelona, a larcenous 8 euro a glass. I was so shocked, and it was so good, that I had to have a second glass to settle me down. I should have ordered a bottle. Great place, not cheap by local standards but a real find. However I ordered the pulpo de brasas (octopus tapas) and for 14€ got three small pieces of severely over-cooked octopus that smelled fishy and had sand grittiness to it. Dishes at other tables looked good, but I didn't want to take another chance on it. Would recommend going for a drink. read more

Absolutely amazingly delicious (if not exactly cheap) tapas (my favourites: abbey style cod, tuna tataki, meat balls, bull tail stew) in a very lovely setting... the only downside is that you can't reserve one if the four tables outside. Spent an uneventful afternoon shopping on our first trip to Barcelona. It started to rain so we ran into the first tapas joint we could find. What a pleasant surprise. Great oysters, pigs feet, cannelloni, anchovies, etc. Everything was excellent including the cold beer and cava. Sergio's service was excellent and the prices were great.
