The trees were very tall and growing at an angle off the mountain over the house going for southern exposure. There was no way to remove the trees the traditional way due to the position of the house, the angle of the trees and no access behind the house due to the mountain. One of the trees was a massive 100+ yr old ash that succumbed to ash beetle and was dropping branches from 100' up destroying the roof every storm. I called three tree services and received 3 approaches for how to resolve the complex issues around the scope of the work along with the cost estimates. I hired Howard Lawrence of Happy Stump. His plan seemed the most directly effective and I felt left less room for mishaps/property damage. His plan was cutting and craning the trees over the house. This seemed the safest and most practical approach. We agreed on a price which I found very reasonable & booked a day and a time. Howard and his team showed up early (!!!) , prepped and when the crane arrived got straight to work. It was impressive/nail biting to watch. The crane operator was very precise, and the crew were on point, focused and efficient. They got all the trees, there was zero damage to my home, they cut the best wood down so I could have it split for firewood and chipped and hauled the rest. No drama, no damage, straight forward focused complex problem solving, great outcome, priced below what I expected AND really nice folks to boot. These kinds of decisions are hard to make. There are so many variables. It's nice to have a company that leaves you confident you've made a good decision in hiring them. I have recommended them to friends and neighbors and now yelp.
