The sheep cheese is smooth and creamy the veggies were cooked well with romaine lettuce as a way to collect it. I used the freah bread to capture all the delicious flavors. Nikals was our server and he was very sweet. Spoke English very well and made some nice suggestions. We had a reservation and my wife requested that we sit on the terrace. Did I mention this is a rooftop restaurant... Yes with amazing views of the castle and a shot of the moon just rising as we sat down for a late dinner. For our main course we went with, WIENER SCHNITZEL VOM KALB, Babykartoffeln /Preiselbeeren /Zitrone In English, VEAL WIENER SCHNITZEL with parsley potatoes, lingonberries & lemon and GEKOCHTER TAFELSPITZ, Röstkartoffeln / Cremespinat / Apfelkren / Schnittlauchsauce. In English, SLOWLY BOILED BEEF with pan fried potatoes, apple horseradish cream spinach & chive sauce - A FAMOUS AUSTRIAN DISH! They were so delicious! The stew was like butter! The meat was so tender and the sauces on the side.. oh so good! And the best schnitzel I have had this week. We decided on a dessert to share as we were full but needed to taste something. Chocolate. VALRHONA SCHOKOLADEN VARIATION (A, c, G, H, 0) Brownie / Gateaux / Ganache / Tonkabohnenspitz / Mango-Passionsfrucht Ragout In English, VARIATION OF VALRHONA CHOCOLATE with brownie, lava cake, ganache, tonka bean parfait & mango-passion fruit ragout. Wowza! Very romantic, excellent service and perfectly made meals!

The latter was our experience during a recent trip to Salzburg where we'd booked a quaint hotel that did not have an on-site eatery. We had taken our adult children and grandchildren to Germany and Austria to visit some of the multitude of Christkindlmarkts, including those in Salzburg. One can only have so many bratwurst, pretzels and cups of Glühwein so, after exploring the markt at the famous Mirabell Gardens on our first evening in town, my wife and I stole off on our own and discovered the Sky Bar. The name "Sky Bar" as represented on numerous advertisements around the midtown area is a bit misleading, as it's much more than just a bar. Situated on the sixth floor of the Imlauer Hotel Pitter, it is also home to a very nice restaurant as well as a lively bar. With food available in both settings, we chose a table in the bar area for our post-markt munch. A glass of local Riesling started things off, and the bar had one with a "trocken" or dry finish. "Halb-trocken" or, more recently, "fine-herb," indicates an off-dry wine while "sü" (seuss) is sweet. While my wife enjoyed a small salad, I opted for their beef tatar. Properly prepared, it came with a caperberry buried in the seasoned, ground meat topped with a fried quail egg and accompanied by a chutney of balsamic and shaved onion. Delicious! In fact, so delicious that the fellow at the next table who had just finished his own tatar saw me enjoying mine and waxed rhapsodic about how delightful it was. He wasn't wrong. The next night, we decided to save our appetite so we could enjoy a complete dinner rather than nibbles. Certainly, we visited some sites and strolled through some of the city's markts but dinner time found us again ascending to the sixth floor and making our way to the bar area. This time, our entrees included venison for my wife and a boar chop for me. We'd both had venison before - including during a previous trip to Austria and Germany - but I had never had boar. Though our server said his English was "not very good," he was able to understand my question about whether the boar would have a gamey taste, and assure me that it had been farm-raised so it would not have a game flavor. A little research showed that boar is often considered a slightly lighter alternative to pork, and indeed it was. A bit less fat but just as much flavor and, properly cooked, tender and juicy. As was the venison, with only a hint of game flavor. Our third and final night in Salzburg brought one more trip to the Sky Bar for a farewell glass of wine and a last look at the city from our sixth floor perch. The facility's location may not seem to fit the definition of a "sky bar" but it's plenty high enough for Salzburg. Guests who step onto the outside patio can see the lights of bridges spanning the Salzach River, Fortress Hohensalzburg which sits watch over the town, and dozens of other sights. One might also marvel at those hearty folks who opt to sit outside and enjoy their drinks and dinner in freezing weather. But hey, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. If you're looking for a change from stereotypical Austrian fare, we highly recommend the Sky Bar at the Imlauer Hotel Pitter.

No reservation made in advance or required at that time of day. Inside was cool with rustic wooden decor and furnishings. Menu contained many of the classic Austrian dishes that we were looking to fill up our stomachs. Portions looked big but it was also nice to find some options that came in smaller plates so we could make sure that we left enough room for one of their desserts. We took a little longer to nail down our meal and we ended up getting some very basic dishes: The small plate of Austrian meatballs were quite tasty with a savory sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The veal schnitzel was huge and took up more than 3/4 of the plate with a few boiled potatoes. Nice crunch on the outside and juicy veal on the inside but the potatoes were a bit plain. The crowning end to our meal was one of the city's famous desserts, the Salzburg Nockerl. We actually switched from the apple strudel at the last minute so we had to wait a little extra time before the nockerl was served. It's not an easy dessert to make though its main ingredients were eggs, sugar and a little flour. The 3 browned peaks were impressive when served. The raspberry sauce on the bottom provided a sweet add. It was very close to a soufflé with a very airy like texture that melted in the mouth. Well worth the 24.9 Euros charged and the most expensive dessert of our trip. We had great service from the staff and easily accommodate our change our minds on the dessert. We closed our tab at the table and would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting some good food options.

The Goulosh was the right amount for lunch and a huge dumpling ball to go with it. the Bratwurst was good but no bread with it. more of a meal with potatos. We were sat at the opposite end of the table from another couple in a little room. The servers were plenty friendly and spoke good English to assist us. My husband got a burger and I ordered the Mac and cheese and a salad and we shared. It was a lot of food! We also ordered the pancake shredded dessert which came with a jelly type of sauce. Everything was good but it was sooo heavy. I certainly recommend sharing so that you have enough room in your stomach. We would return next time we were in Salzburg.

The goulash was amazingly flavorful, rich and hearty, and the potato dumplings were the perfect accompaniment. We also tried the deep-fried chicken with potato salad. The chicken was juicy and nicely fried, and while it wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was definitely good. The potato salad was also really nice and paired well with the chicken. We made a reservation even though it was a Sunday night, and I'm glad we did. The place had a great mix of locals and tourists, and seeing quite a few locals dining there was definitely reassuring. The atmosphere has that classic traditional Gasthaus vibe--casual, lively, and focused on good food. If you're looking for traditional Austrian food in a relaxed Gasthaus setting, Bärenwirt is definitely worth a visit.

Make a left and at the end is where you pay for the beer, grab the stein, rinse and get it filled. All done within 30 feet radius. You can retrace back and grab all the meats and such. Cash only! Outdoor area is huge. Tree leaves started to come out Mid April. Interior beer halls with plenty of seats. 100's people drinking pints and pints of beer. Men's room, designed to take care of all this. Beer was ok, food was ok, experience was ok. Did meet one of the workers offered to take photos. Nicer one at it! All spoke good English so communication was good.
