Sara's boasts some insanely high online ratings, one of the top-rated restaurants on the entirety of Highway 70 between Phoenix and the Atlantic Ocean. As I traversed this lengthy highway from beginning to end, I knew Sara's was a must-see! Is it delicious? Yes! It's very good! The hummus appetizer with chicken shawarma is fabulous. You could make an entire meal out of it. The lamb is okay, but the bed of rice that accompanies the lamb is very, very good. Have I had better Mediterranean food in other cities and even in the Mediterranean? Absolutely! Stopped in for dinner while in town, was greeted walking in and told to sit where we like, grabbed a booth and our server brought us menus. An older interior, was maybe an old pizzahut or similar building before. We started with hummus and pita, served traditionally. It was simple and good, freshly made with olive oil dizzle on top and paprika. After looking over the menu, I opted for the Falafel bowl with rice and veggies and it was so good and tasty. The falafels were fresh made, and sliced in half. A large bowl, with a generous serving of rice in the bottom, then loaded cucumber, tomato, green pepper, and greens on one side and warm falafels on the other. Great food! I wasn't able to make it to the restaurant but they had a mobile kitchen at the Roswell Air Races and it was great! I was craving Mediterranean food and it did not disappoint. In the middle of Roswell sits a Mediterranean restaurant, seemingly out of place. They serve some of the best Mediterranean food that we've had in a long while- we have had a huge influx of middle eastern residents in our area at home, and a lot of Mediterranean restaurants have popped up. None is as good as Sara's. The chicken schwarma wrap was delicious, as is their falafel and hummus. Pistachio ice cream and baklava for dessert. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I was here for the CAA race and I was looking for something that was different and this restaurant caught my attention. When I looked at the reviews, it solidified my decision. I ordered their salad and lentil soup. Both items were amazing in flavor and very well done. What an unexpected dinner. We were hunting for aliens and ended up in Roswell. When we started getting desperate and hungry for food we looked up a bunch of restaurants and none of them really caught our attention until we saw Sara's. Having the same name spelled the same way was what really intrigued me to pay them a visit. Also the Mediterranean cuisine too... The restaurant is very unassuming being attached to a motel but the decor is simple and clean. Reminds me that it might have been a breakfast joint at some point cuz of the way the booth/table was set up. We tried many things, the eggplant and the falafel appetizers were amazing and oh so tasty. We ordered the lamb shank, the lamb pan, the beef kofta wrap and the chicken shawarma bowl. Seated quickly with friendly server, but the food left a lot to be desired. Most disappointing was the rice, which seems like it'd be the heart and pride of any Mediterranean restaurant... This stuff tasted straight out of a Knorr's chicken flavor rice packet from Walmart. Super salty bouillon bomb. The hummus was fresh and tasted great - strongly recommend - but you'll need an extra order of pita bread because they don't give you anywhere near enough compared to the serving of hummus. For entree, we both preferred the chicken kabob over beef. For dessert, I spat out the baklava (we tried both pistachio and walnut). Future diners might be served well by ordering the shawarma wrap, but avoid the rice, and skip dessert. read more

Stopped in earlier an grabbed a couple of gyro wraps or what I would call a gyro. This is not a Greek place but a Mediterranean place. I didn't realize there was a difference(I apologize for tht). The pita was very soft and pliable. The meat was cut in nice sized squares with plenty of it. The twist for me was grilled onion which added a nice flavor. Along with tomato and tzatziki sauce. The wrap comes with your choice of fries, salad or soup. It was lentil soup. Opted for fries and a side of rice. The rice had an awesome flavor. Not sure what it was, but it was mighty taste. This restaurant was recommended to me by someone who served in the Air Force in turkey for many years. He said it was the most authentic Mediterranean food he had tasted since he left. I have an extensive family background with Persian food, so I am no novice to the flavors of the region. My wife and I were very pleasantly surprised This restaurant has a wide range of options, including vegan meals. Everything was delicious. Everyone was very friendly. I can tell they are in the process of doing upgrades to the interior. It was pleasant, but not particularly Mediterranean. We have subsequently had friends go there who were also very pleased. I'd like to say Sarah's Café and Grill is good if it were a food truck. Most every Middle Eastern restaurant I've been into serves lamb chops. They do not. It's a very limited menu and I believe a bit overpriced. If you order a dinner for instance, one chicken kebab skewer with rice(that's all you get) is almost $20, if you want extra sauce oh, that'll cost you extra sir. Would you like the house specialty rice sir? that's also an up charge. Order the hummus and they give you one pita if you want more than that that'll be an up charge - Up charge city. Sara's is a surprising spot. Me and my girlfriend were passing through and saw this place had some of the best reviews in the area. After trying it, we understood why. The staff were friendly and the food was quite delicious. They even have wacky alien themed drinks. Which, to our surprise, were not just a gimmick. They actually tasted good! If you're in the area, definitely recommend stopping to get a bite here. You won't regret it. Oh! My wife and I travel frequently within the USA. We like all kinds of food but my favorite by far is Mediterranean food. I have sampled Mediterranean all across Canada and the US. We have had food from many different countries around the Mediterranean and like all restaurants some are good and some not so good. Sara's is perhaps the best I have eaten anywhere. For starts the service, our server Josh was excellent. He was courteous, he was attentive and asked all the right questions. We ordered a combination appetizer tray, lentil soup, a tabouleh salad and an entrée. The appetizer came out with hot pita which was excellent. Both the lentil soup and the tabouleh salad were among the best I have ever had. The baba ganoush, the falafels and the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) were all three among the best I have ever had. Often fried falafels are coarse and dry but these were moist, tender and flavorful. The tahini dipping sauce was excellent as well. My wife's combination kafta (chicken and beef) came with the supreme rice which was also excellent. The ambience was very clean and modern as was the music fascinating and lively. Across the board, everything was excellent. We chatted a good bit with one of the owners who told us that all the cuisine represented generations of family recipes. All this, in what I consider one of the least likely of places; Roswell, New Mexico. If you are in Roswell and you like good food, Sara's is a can't miss restaurant. Bravo, Sara's. read more

I was passing through Roswell and was craving a gyro and found this spot on Yelp. The place was very clean inside and the gyro sandwich was awesome! It came with fries or a salad but i asked for salad and wow the salad was bomb. Could have ate a whole plate of salad ! I can't wait to go back through and try some other things on the menu. He answered our questions and suggested options to make sure we got what we wanted. Our meal was a baba ghanoush appetizer and a chicken shawarma bowl. The baba was very lemon-forward, to the point that it was difficult to taste the eggplant at all. Now this is the cook's choice, and I respect that, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Our chicken shawarma had plenty of meat, but the chicken was dry and salty. Without the rice and cucumbers to cut the saltiness and add some moisture, it would have been difficult to eat. With guidance from Cameron, I ordered an appetizer sampler. It consisted of falafel, grape leaves, hummus, baba ghanoush, tahini sauce, and pita bread, This was my first time having falafel and baba ghanoush, and I thought Sara's grape leaves were better than those that I've had in Greek restaurants in larger cities in the past. I can't think of anything that could've made my experience better. The restaurant was clean with a pleasant atmosphere, the service was attentive and gracious, and the food was terrific.
