Our family adopted a dog named Bear. He was not well behaved and was causing a lot of stress in our family to the point we considered re-homing him. Fabian at the Dog Wizard was able to turn everything around for us thankfully. We boarded Bear at the facility in US 64 and Fabian worked with him daily. What he graduated from the program he was sitting and lying down in his place every time we asked. Before training he refused to go on walks because of his intense fear. Now, we take him on walks around the neighborhood every day. Not only was Fabian effective but he has repeatedly offered to meet up with us to work with Bear for no extra charge. We were at a crossroads with 2 of our dogs, they had gotten into a couple of really bad fights and we thought we were going to have to get rid of 1 of them. They were both so anxious all the time, were hard to walk, and impossible to take anywhere. Our last resort were the great trainers at the Dog Wizard. We have seen such a dramatic difference already with both our dogs. They were so clear on what they were doing while they had them and have been great with any follow up questions we have. Just finished our 8 week training with my two dogs Leala and Major. Our focus was on basic obedience and dog aggression. We had prior obedience training but had fallen off with follow through. Anthony was a huge help in teaching us the importance of follow through and calmness. My two Pitbull's are afraid of other dogs and appear to be aggressive and we needed to be able to integrate my father's service dog into our family. With the help of Anthony, we have been able to integrate Jay into our house. Nine months later I ended up with an 85 pound spoiled unsocialized out of control dog...that I absolutely love! I tried to take her to a busy park for the first Time out... she was all over the place and took me with her! it was the most frustrating experience of my life! And then there was Pam at the dog wizard! two weeks and she is a different dog! She walks beautifully on a leash I can take her anywhere! She sits, lays down and she goes to place! The Dog Wizard has changed our lives! We were so frustrated with our dogs social aggressiveness and dominant behavior that we knew we needed professional help. I found the Sarasota Dog Wizard though an online search and called to set up a free consultation. The owner Don showed up to evaluate our dog Tucker and talk us through the process. He was very professional and confident that we could benefit from their program. We were still a little hesitant at first because of the amount of money the training would cost but I was provided with a list of references to call and felt reassured by their positive reviews. So we enrolled in their 2 week boarding/training program. It was the first time Tucker had ever been away from home for that long so we were happy to be in constant communication with our trainer via text,email and Facebook video updates. We could clearly see the progress Tucker was making gaining confidence with other dogs and even small children! When he came back home he had so many new skills & WE learned a new way of communicating with him. We all felt a new sense of confidence and our family members couldn't believe Tuckers obedience. One of the best things about the Dog Wizard is its a training service provided for Tuckers entire life. Don has come out to the house since the training to help us in the neighborhood (Tucker's biggest issue) and they even offer FREE Saturday morning classes held at a local park with past graduates. We have boarded Tucker since the training for when we go on vacation to refresh his skills another service they provide. The new facility that the Dog Wizard purchased in June is a beautiful house with plenty of roaming space. Maybe ok if your dog has no past trauma nor is an adult rescue. We went for a 1:1 evaluation and they said our dog would be good for group even after explaining his reactive tendencies and unknown past as a surrender at the SPCA who came to us malnourished, matted, scared and with cysts on his rump from laying on a hard surface underweight. The last couple classes he became reactive with a couple dogs. I even called the day before the socialization class to make sure he should come. The owner was going to be there they said this would be great. . He had no idea what to do with him. They pretty much cleared the room for Our dog and put everyone on edge talking about dog fights and how if a dog gets in a fight to grab him by the back legs and throw him to the side....never heard of that and good luck with a dog over 30 lbs. He had a tiny can of air that I could barely hear and what looked like a cat feather wand. When our dog wouldn't follow suit after his puff of air and wand he asked us to take a walk outside and then never invited us back in. I asked if we should leave and he said he's never had a dog not respond to his toys and that he 'may have a neurological disorder'. Such BS. Buddy is leaps and bounds from when we got him. We just need to work with someone that knows trauma and reactive proper training distractions. After he upset me to the point of tears I found several groups and books on training dogs like our pup. He is a real sweetheart 95% of the time. Why can't people just admit when they don't have the training to deal with something instead of making stuff up. As we were leaving, one of the workers moms approached me and told me our dog should be put down. Most frustrating, upside event I've been apart of in a long time. $300 and we now have a leash that he will heel on.... read more
