It is an old manor house on a hill that overlooks a bucolic landscape. The room we had was rather old-fashioned, but some would call it romantic. The bathroom was definitely 'romantic': the owner (who speaks only Portuguese) needed 1/2 hour to get it going. There is no dinner facility either at the manor nor in the hamlet. So much for all the negatives! The owner proved himself the perfect host: he drove us to Paredes de Coura, pointed out possible places to eat, came to fetch us, invited us for a drink in the re-furbished stables (he could open a small museum with all the old things he has all over the place), and brought us after breakfast to the place where we could continue to Santiago. The property possesses a large garden with outside swimming pool and you would never know you're only steps away from the town centre. The bedrooms in the main building are the nicest - because of their character - but also the outhouses have their appeal: nearer to the swimming pool, more 'modern' feeling. You can catch some spectacular views of the Douro River. Basically, the view alone is worth it. The gardens are spectacular and well-manicured. The staff was warm and welcoming. They stayed opened until I arrived, which was very late. They even made dinner for me at that hour. The rooms were big and comfortable. And it included many amenities. I wouldn't recommend this type of hotel if you're traveling with young children. I think it's great for solo travelers or couples. Resende is a small town and it's quite remote. So this B&B is a great place to just have a relaxing stay.
