We had such a good time at UMI tonight, instead of sitting around the grill we opted to dine at a…read moretable by ourselves in order to have a more private experience. Our waitress was fantastic. She was a young lady from Lebanon and she was a delight. She was very, very prompt with our food and made sure that we had everything we needed. Its Thursday night and they have half-price sushi bar specials and cocktails. I think the special cocktail was different versions of margaritas that evening. Our food came out promptly and I had decided on one of the appetizers. My Scorpian roll was huge! I had to cut each slice in half. It was excellent and I highly recommend it if you can go for $21 for an appetizer. I made it my meal, it was filling. The atmosphere is modern but still has the traditional grill and a small show while food is prepared. Great for groups. They also have tables and booths for those who do not want to sit in front of the grill. There is also a separate bar area. This was another great experience I've had at this Japanese restaurant. I'll be back as there are many items to try on the menu ranging from raw to cooked fare.

There were 2 people at the hostess stand that just started walking away when I entered. I heard 1 tell the other, "I should have just called out today" and continued to walk away. I sat at the bar for several minutes. Employees were standing around so eventually I left without a word being said to me or greeted. Absolutely the worse service. I agree, she should have called out and stayed home. It would have been a huge favor to the restaurant.

This is my favorite hibachi steakhouse to eat at…read more The food is mostly good. It has consistently been under-salted lately, but that is easy enough to fix. My steak is always cooked perfectly. They have noodles in addition to rice, which I like, and I usually order an extra side of these. The portions are huge. My steak covered 1/2 of my plate today. I like the sushi. I get the veggie roll, fried. Honestly this is probably pretty hard to mess up, due to the distinctive lack of seafood, but still. No complaints here. The service is excellent. The past 2 times I've been, I've had the same server. I believe her name is Jennifer. She is awesome--the old school, super attentive, doesn't let the drinks go even close to empty type. The chefs are fun, most of them really do commit to the bit-- onion volcanoes, lots of jokes and banter, the whole 9 yards.

I asked for my filet to be medium well (prefer to be on the red side), extra rice and shrimp. He gave my extra shrimp to another guest. I got extra rice because the lady sitting beside of me gave her rice to me. Then, he cooked my filet well done. I cannot chew well done meat. I came home after being disappointed and gave the food to my dogs. I paid a lot of money to be disappointed. I will not be going back

The tables and booths are functional, but not built for comfort. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Kebob, with steamed rice, sweet carrots, mixed veggies, with shrimp sauce - $13.50. This was a very nice dish - the shrimp were well sized and fresh tasting, nicely cooked. The mixed veggies were also nice zucchini, onion, broccoli, and mushrooms. The sweet carrots are not something I care for, just too much sweetness! This was not at all a bad experience, but I still prefer Rio or Kimono. And since you don't get soup or salad here except with a combo meal, I think the value is not far off.

I ordered the hibachi steak and shrimp with teriyaki sauce and selected broccoli as my veggie. It was also served with sweet carrots. I also selected the salad with ginger dressing as my starter. The salad was the typical iceburg bag salad with a piece of mixed green mixed in. The ginger dressing was different that what I'm used to. It was very orange and chunky. It had a hint of ginger flavor. It almost seemed like they blended carrots and mixed it with the dressing to stretch it out. This is why they lost a star. The steak, shrimp, and rice were all cooked to perfection. Steak was tender amd easy to chew with a bit of char. When I go back i will ask them to go light on the teriyaki sauce. It was a large portion. I ate inside and my meal was served on large paper plate. No problem for me. It was durable fro. Start to finish, but I did have to request a to-go plate. There are booths and a few high tops for seating. If I had to guess, maybe 20-25 people could dine-in comfortably. I will go back. The food was delicious, the restaurant was clean, and the service was decent.
