Excellent food, excellent services (from the moment of online reservations, then change of reservation via phone, to service delivery inside the restaurant). Foods are always great, but I think the vegan portobello mushroom is overpriced at $34 given only 2 fried mushrooms served with vegetables, but it's fresh and tasty and so were all other dishes. The truffle fries & truffle mushroom pizza were excellent. The slightly pan fried gnocchi was quite special as this was the first time I saw gnocchi served this way. We came here on a weeknight for a birthday with children in our party. I was a bit nervous at first that the kids might be disruptive but they enjoyed the meal and our server was great. The lighting was a bit dark which sets a nice romantic mood, although might be just a little tricky with younger kids. Their sticky toffee pudding was so good, great end to our meal. read more

Had a lovely (early) Valentine's Day dinner at Sarpa. Given the occasion, I made sure to make a reservation early and everything was no problem. There was ample parking available and I'm glad I made a reservation early as it was quite packed for a Thursday night. We had been here once before and knew what we wanted - we started off with the Polenta Fries, which were a pleasant mix of sweet and crispiness. We had the Grilled Shrimp - with the sauce and tomatoes, it was very hearty. We also had the Mushroom Arancini - it was creamy on the inside and mixed well with the fried texture of the ball. For the mains, we ordered the Sausage and Rapini Pizza and the Potato Gnocchi - this was the highlight of the meal. Slightly crispy on the outside soft and chewy when you bite into it and creamy with the sauce, it was heavenly. For dessert, we ordered the Raspberry Sorbet and Tiramisu. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion size - there were 4 scoops of the sorbet, which was just the right amount of sour that my wife likes, and the tiramisu was velvety. Nice to have so much business with all these restaurants going out of business that you can ignore a request for this type of reservation. I came here for a business dinner with a colleague, and we had a fantastic dining experience. Lighting is a little dim, I guess to set the mood. Decor was very nice. In-service is very attentive. I don't recall the exact dishes that we had but our appetizers, and main entrees were excellent! And we really enjoyed the wine that our server suggested. Recently ordered here for a special occasion as this place has always been one our favourite fine dining restaurant. Although I was prepared to not have high expectation as ordering takeout is not the same as dining in and with covid I can also understand that during these hard times, it will be difficult to maintain the same quality but I was still disappointed especially with the seafood spaghetti. Taste wise, the dish was flavourful but it had very little seafood and it was pricey for about $37 including taxes and tips. We also ordered the Tagliatelle bolognese and Veal Limone which were okay but not spectacular considering these dishes were pricey as well. This review is just based on takeout. I've been here a couple of times and loved it every time. The dish to die for was the pan roasted gnocchi! It was the best gnocchi I've ever had. I also tried their their lamb chops and daily dessert, both equally as delicious. All of this is a bit on the pricier side, but hey, it's fine dining. Went here for the first time to celebrate my cousins birthday. Everything we ordered was super delicious. We devoured everything! My personal favourite was the gnocchi as it was super soft, fluffy, and a little crispy on the outside. The texture of the gnocchi was made to perfection and it was delicious!!! The service was also amazing. Our glasses were always filled and I especially appreciated how they changed our plates and wiped down the table after every course. I ordered the arancini appetizer to share and they made 4 so each person in our party could have. It was very good. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan and I tried a piece which also came with pasta and tomato sauce. His dish was just ok for me. The chicken was overcooked and the breading was burnt at some parts. The pasta left no impression on us. I ordered the gnocchi and the gnocchi themselves were cooked perfectly. After about six of them, however, I found myself completely stuffed and didn't want to finish the dish. It was because of the cream sauce. It was far too rich and heavy. Too much heavy cream, or butter, I'm not sure what but it no longer was appetizing. I also wasn't a fan of corn in the sauce. For dessert we had tiramisu and funnel cake. They were nothing special. I only had two bites of the tiramisu and brought the rest home. I probably shouldn't have ordered dessert as I really was completely full and uncomfortable from the super rich gnocchi with cream sauce. I also didn't finish my cappuccino. We were shocked at the price of the meal. With tip, $354, and only one person in our party of four had a drink - one beer. I think for what we ate, and for the food being just okay for my husband and me, I cannot justify that price. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I was taken here during my birthday a couple weeks back, and I remembered how busy it was. I highly recommend calling to make a reservation if you want a spot asap. I've seen some people wait for seats, however there is no guarantee when you'd be able to actually a seat. I really appreciate how they had barriers that you can pull down from the ceiling which insured proper social distancing. They also outlined clear rules of when you're supposed to wear your mask, and to stay seated. The service was great, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, despite how busy it was for the capacity allowed, the food didn't take too long to arrive. Everything was very tasty, and my favorite was the risotto rice ball appetizer. Very friendly service and took really good care of us from seating to dessert! The food is really great but not cheap but you get what u pay for. Pricing is somewhat similar to Local for main course based man my memory but I think this restaurant taste better. One thing to point out though, my server told me the gelato they serve has 4 scoop and cost about $15 if I remember correctly. But when I order my dessert, I wanted 2 scoop on the side along with my pistachio dessert, and they say they can do that... but turns out that two scoop cost $13 which is pretty much the full price for 4 scoop. Not too happy when I find out when getting the bill but I should of ask the price per scoop... so just want folks to be aware of the price if you want a scoop or two of gelato to go with other dessert u will have... First off: Food, service and ambience were all top notch. We had a great meal and while these things are all important - they are not the whole story. Cost - which normally I will expect a premium for the above things done well, was well outside the norm. Unless I'm sitting in a dining room overlooking a mountain vineyard or in some exclusive venue, a value proposition needs to be made for dining out. You will get a good meal served well, but expect to pay $200 per person with tax and tip. Our bill was $850 for four people, with three out of four having a single alcoholic drink. Food/taste: overall the three dishes we ordered were very flavorful and did not lack any seasoning. Grilled octopus- The octopus was very tender in the smoky flavor was very strong. Accompanied by grilled fennel had a great crunch texture. There was two sauces on it one more of a herb sauce and the other a garlic nutty sauce. Both the sauces. Well with the grilled dish. Mushroom risotto- They definitely did not hold back on the mushrooms. There were large chunks of mushroom throughout the whole dish in the mushroom flavor was very strong. A nice creamy risotto, exactly what you're expecting . Orecchiette- A very savory and light pasta that did not like any flavor. With bits of broccolini adding crunch and Chilies for a spicy kick. The pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente. I would highly recommend this. Each dish costs $25 - slightly overpriced especially the appetizer but were all very enjoyable. Staff- Extremely attentive and constantly checking up on you every 15 minutes. Any asks you had they would immediately do it without any complaints. From the host to the servers they were all very kind with a nice smile. Ambiance- Inside has a dark yellow lighting quite roomy. Has a pretty decent interior but nothing exceptional. Has a very rustic steakhouse Italian vibe. Overall I would recommend the spot for a friend's gathering or date night. read more

Sarpa is awesome! It is located in Oak Ridges.. yes that's really really up North for downtown people... even for me this is an area that I hardly visit. But it really worth the drive for me if I have the cravings for some good Italian food and great services!! The deco is elegant and warm. Most furnishing are in dark mahogany wood. The lighting is dim and is kind of romantic... great dating spot. Sarpa has a daily menu specials or you can pick from their regular menu. We decided on: Organic Arugula Salad ($13) though pretty good, but didn't wow me, skip! Veal Parmigiana ($24) is one of the best veal I ever have! Pounded really thin and lightly breaded, surprisingly tender and favoured.. oh and the melted Buffalo mozzarella ! Delicious!! Linguine Frutti Di Mare ($28) has really fresh seafood, all cooked perfectly with a light touch of tomato sauce. Chocolate Torte with Vanilla Gelato ($10) was so heavenly... I love warm chocolate sauce and cold gelato..........and finished off with assorted fresh berries!! Sarpa has the nicest, cleanest and the nicest smelling washroom facilities I ever been to!! I had lunch there, starting with a cheeseboard and after We tried the seafood risotto, Lamb & Sausage, as well as the steak...and yes! I tried all three dishes and all were wonderful. The beef tenderloin and the short ribs were cooked and seasoned perfectly and the restaurant and service were also great but the food beat everything! Perfect date night restaurant! Great Italian food in Richmond Hill/ Aurora area. Sarpa is own by the same owners as Terra which is one of my favourite Italian restaurant in York region. Sarpa is quite big and has many seatings but don't take it for granted as they do fill up fast. A reservation is recommended for weekend. Based on our server's recommendation, we ordered the gamberoni e capesanti which is giant shrimp and scallop risotto and it was exquisite! The texture of the risotto was perfect, the taste with seafood was simply divine. We also ordered the parpadelle bolognese, it was good but we found ourselves fighting for the risotto. Yes, it was that good. It would be even better if it wasn't $39! Overall, we loved the food but we didn't love the bill. The prices are a bit on the higher end. read more

There was 10 of us about 6 months ago We ordered appetizers and brought only enough for two people they failed to take into account the number of people and they were grosse so unprofessional and untasty like they came from a package of frozen food Veal Marsala was grosse steak was a rip off not even tender. Very hard to cut The prices are way too outrageous for the quality of food. I would never go back. There are so many amazing restaurants that are Italian that would beat this place by a landslide I called to complain ans no one even cared to call back. They couldn't care less. It is located at the north end of Richmond Hill. Mostly likely one of the best Italian restaurants in Richmond Hill. The environment was relaxing. The service was really excellent. The arancini was good, sort of like fresh made Italian meat balls, a bit too salty to my liking, probably because the dry cured meat inside. The crispy chicken was well cooked and well balanced in flavour, the outside could have been crispier and the inside could have been tenderer. The short rib was excellently executed, it was perfect. The mafalda corta was tasteful. The lobster carbonara was delicious. The persimmon cake was delightful. read more

First time at this restaurant, it was pouring when we got there, the staff was very tentative and made sure we don't slip on the wet floors, they opened the doors for us and quickly set us down. We went on a Tuesday night and it was pretty quiet. The atmosphere is very romantic, which was perfect for our night out! It was our 1 month as a married couple and this was the perfect place to celebrate. The food came pretty slow though, almost 20 minutes before it arrived. The portion of the food was pretty small to what I am used to. The food was a bit pricey. I am not sure if I would come back here again. The food is good, but maybe not for that price. The atmosphere is also for an older crowd.... I would say 35+. I would rather go downtown for a nice Italian restaurant. Something more fun and hip. read more

Living up to their Yelp review and I'm blown away with service, food quality and ambience...truly immaculate place... yes it is further up north drive but let me ensure you won't be disappointed... We ordered calamari, beef tartar, octopus salad, half chicken, penne alla vodka, seafood spahghettini... everything was simply divine and did I mention the service? They kept coming back to checkup on us asking if everything is ok... Beef Tartar was simply delicious...grilled calamari was grilled to perfection...penne was al dente with the perfect amount of sauce... all portions were perfectly sized...there is nothing negative I can say about this place... The prices were acceptable in my personal opinion, they have a diverse list of wine..from $35-200+, the wine list is not available on the website...so you really need to see the list upon arrival... What a fantastic experience we had at dinner at Sarpa for a special occasion. We had enjoyed the food before at its somewhat stuffy sister restaurant, Terra, but found Sarpa to be warm and inviting. The restaurant was clean and service was outstanding. The food was perfect. Lots of parking a perk of the drive north. We started with the warm mushroom salad (with arugula, balsamic and ricotta) and the seared ahi tuna (a special). Both we would definitely order again. For mains we had the potato gnocchi and short ribs. The gnocchi was huge and my thought was that I would pack up half to take home, but it was so incredible that I shamelessly ate the whole thing. Next time I will ask them to pack up half before they bring it to the table. The short ribs were also enjoyed. I had read here that the desserts were homemade so we had the exceptional lemon tart and delicious creme brûlée. We will definitely return. read more

Sharpe is with the same owner as Terra. We went early because we had a small child. The service was very sincere and thought. The bread was much liked by everyone and the ended up packing some for us to go. The calamari grilled is terrific, the fries were good and not found in a lot of places. The service was really bad - I went there for a birthday and I told them in Secret to bring a cake for my brother's birthday - they disregarded the entire thing and just went right into the bill.. very bad for a special occasion.. we also had to wait a lot to be seated even though we had a reservation and took ages for the waiter to serve us. I went to Terra a few times before, they were good but Sarpa's experience was enough to make me not try any of this owner's restaurant. My wife and I went to Sarpa for Valentines Dinner. The overall ambience was upscale, yet cozy. Our server was nice and attentive. We ordered the octopus, arancini balls for apps, I got the orecchiette and my wife got the Terra Gnocchi. The octopus was one piece, it was tough and rubbery to the point where we had to ask for steak knives to cut it. The flavors were good, but the meat was overcooked. On top of that it was $22. The arancini were tasty, but had virtually no sauce on them so they were a little dry. The pastas were both good, but extrich and salty. Overall the food was enjoyable (other than octopus) so I would say my review is a 3.5 not a flat 3. For the price point and the reputation, it left us wanting more. read more

We have lived in Richmond Hill for over twenty years. Sarpa is located in north Richmond Hill (Oak Ridges). It's a high end but not stuffy restaurant. The food is consistently well prepared and beautifully presented. The menu quite often is seasonal offering a pleasant change. The service from wait staff to owner is impeccable. Michael runs a tight ship. We have been offered samples of wine and food he thinks we might like. Amazingly he remembers us every time. I specifically like the innovative appetizers like octopus carpaccio. Entrees are generous in size and all are delicious. It's a lively place and sometimes noisy which for me signifies a good time. We will be moving into the city but Sarpa will always be a go-to for us. read more
