The negative reviews are accurate. As unpleasant as a doctor could be, always with one hand on the door knob, and always quick to blame hers and her staff's mistakes on others. If I could give zero stars, I would. I don't normally write reviews, but my experience with Dr. Sarwat Mahmud was so unpleasant I felt compelled to share. From the moment my wife and I walked in, she was treated more like an inconvenience than a patient. The Doctor was cold, dismissive, and condescending. We came in with legitimate concerns about my wifes health, and instead of listening, she interrupted us repeatedly, rolled her eyes, and rushed us through the appointment like we were wasting her precious time. When I asked a clarifying question, I was met with a sarcastic tone and an unprofessional attitude that made me feel embarrassed for even asking. She even told me coldly: "if you(my wife) don't change your diet immediately, you will die". When I tried to ask another question about her health, she raised her voice, interrupting my question, snapping back: "THIS IS TOO MUCH, NO MORE QUESTIONS". Like she was on a 3 minute time limit. Healthcare is supposed to be about compassion and care -- two things that were completely missing here. I left feeling worse than when I arrived, not just physically, but emotionally too. My wife and I, her husband, who was present, could not believe what we was hearing and witnessing. Needless to say, I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone who expects to be treated with basic respect. read more

My doctor of 35 years retired, so I had to find a new doctor and choose Dr. Mahmud. After being with Dr. Mahmud for a couple of years, she made a diagnosis that would save my life by finding cancer and referring me to a specialist, Dr. Lawrence Flechner, who operated on me to remove it. Saw her several times. Unacceptable attitude and expression from her Everytime. Never got better. I'm so DONE!! It's just impossible to discuss your health concerns with her as she will hold the door handle to leave the room after 5 min as if there's a time limit for her to see a patient. I've been going to Dr Mahmud for a few years. Once you get in, things are fine but it's impossible to get someone to answer the phone; and once you do, they aren't very pleasant. The worst was when I had Covid. I called the office to get advice and they said they would have the doctor call me back. She called me back 4 days later and then it was too late to take the medicine. She reprimanded me for that. I told her my symptoms appeared on Saturday and I called first thing Monday morning. She said she would follow up in a few days to see how I was feeling and I never got a call back. The next time I got Covid.l, I was referred to another doctor. I'm done. Three stars for the great PA. Doctor Sarwat Mahmud provides outstanding care. She listens very well when I describe issues that my father is having and provides the exact treatment to resolve his issues. After being her patient for almost two years now, she has reduced or eliminated half his medications. He no longer needs any meds for his diabetes and continues to stay healthy at 86 years old. She motivates and encourages him to exercise and stay fit. My father and I both enjoy our visits as she is funny and engaging! read more

Nearly two weeks after quite an invasive foot surgery (performed by an orthopedic surgeon), I developed strange bumps all over the bottom of my foot and completely covering my toes. My foot also showed signs of new swelling. I called Dr. Mahmud, sent her photos and she instantly made an appointment for me to come in asap. Upon seeing her, she diagnosed the problem, took precautionary actions to make certain it wasn't something serious, prescribed treatment and followed up making certain I was on the mend. Her knowledge, actions and genuine care & concern had my foot completely healed in less than 10 days! It is important to note that my Primary Care Physician (who practices at a different health care name) could NOT "fit me in" despite seeing the horrific photos. If you have any self-respect you would not go to this doctor. I am always ready to listen and trust what a doctor says. And I have a few blunt/strict ones (specialists) too; they are great. I've been going to Mahmud for around 3 years. But every appointment was the same. She never had any time, patience, or even the smallest bit of respect for me. Even the nurse practitioner had time for me last month (very thorough during the physical and attentive /Thanks Heather!). Anyway in every appointment with Mahmud (even the first) she was smug and would berate me. She didn't want me to work on things, she just wanted to let out her frustrations on me. Don't get me wrong. I deal with so many pushy people at work all the time. But compared to her, they are the salt of the earth. Thankfully today was the last time she would step on me. I saw Dr. Mahmud for a pretty nasty burn on my leg. I was out of town, and did not want to go to an urgent care, so I was able to send a photo of the burn to Dr. Mahmud and have a Telehealth appointment with her to discuss treatment. My mother has been seeing Dr. Mahmud as a primary for a little while. As my mothers English isn't the best, I usually accompany her to appointments. The first time we met Dr. Mahmud, we were both impressed. She was thorough, didn't dismiss the concerns my mother had, etc. Most doctors we have seen dismiss her concerns with a "it happens when you become older." Fast forward to now and it's obvious her office is only concerned with the dollar signs. They require my mother to go in for REFILLS like her blood pressure medication. One minute visits where my mom pays, goes in, Dr. Mahmud said "Oh you need a refill. Here you go" and leaves. Not exaggerating this at all. It was to the point that I stopped going to appointments with her because there was no point. Nothing to translate, nothing to discuss. My mother brought up this concern to her today and Dr. Mahmud said "Then go to another doctor." Yea. Ok. You bet we will. read more

I was a long-term (2yrs) patient of Dr. Mahmud's until yesterday. I had an appointment scheduled May 1st, yesterday with her for some follow-up medical exams. Yesterday when I arrived, I explained to the front staff that I was feeling very under the weather with chest mucus and cough...no FEVER or other body aches. They even took my forehead temperature. To put it mildly, due to my chest congestion, I was denied seeing the doctor but she would see me only through videoconferecing. I was there as a patient who needed to see the doctor as I was feeling sick with pain in my chest and throat. She refused to see me other than through VC, but I need a real doctor to check my lungs and if possible order a chest Xray. Neither was done. They thought I had COVID. I felt very disspointed and angry that I was turned away from her office after being harrassed all week to remind me to come in to my appointment wth her. I refused to pay for a VC call when I clearly needed to be seen as her patient. It seems she only does diagnosis and referrals, not my type of non-hands-0n doctor! Needless to say, I went and drove myself sick to Urgent Care (Carson and Figueroa) where they were able to see me right away and diagnosed me with BRONCHITIS!! Kelly, the acting P.A. was very kind, empathetic, professional and her bedside manner left me feeling I was in good medical hands. She is truly a very kind P.A. and I have no doubt she will make an excelling hands-0n doctor as she is not afraid to see patients in person. I can't speak for Dr. Mahmud, other than I felt she did NOT abide by the ancient Hippocratic Oath of "Do No Harm". I felt her office staff also contribute to my ire as one of the appointment staff had the audacity to wish me a "Nice Day?!!!" Are you kidding me, feeling so sick and being turned away Dr. Mahmud, certainly did not fare for a nice day! They just don't get it! If you are sick, please go to another medical facility where you will be seen with all due respect to your physical ailments and such. I made my son an appointment with Dr. Mahmud because my doctor is no longer taking new patients. My son was scheduled for a telehealth appointment via video chat. The appointment lLITERALLY lasted less than two minutes, she Had the gall to bill $165, and his issue was not resolved. How this can in any wa, shape or form be considered healthcare? My son went to another physician instead of the specialists that this doctor wanted us to see for a simple toenail infection, and he was examined, talked to, and given a prescription all in that same visit and for a lower fee. And guess what? His infection is clearing up. 100% do not recommend this doctor. Since I have to give one star, it will be for the staff, who are great. read more

Dr. Mahmud is Ahhhh-MAZING! She is kind, patient and really cares about her patients. Her and her friendly staff make my husband and I feel like family. She is vested in our wellbeing and so genuine. We don't wait for more than 5 minutes when we go in (I can't stand it when you end up waiting for 20 minutes in the waiting room and another 30 minutes in the exam room ‍). So...these are scary times we are in. And the most important things we can do are to be good friends and neighbors - and parents. Dr. Mahmud 100% saved our kid's life. He presented with all the symptoms of the Corona Virus, and she was patient, kind, understanding, and helped us to get him the help he needed. Pneumonia developed in under 24 hours with him, and with her firm "bedside manner" we took him to the ER - and she was on the phone with the ER doc the entire time our son was there. He was allowed to come home, recover here, and is up and around. Had we waited...I don't want to think of what would have happened. Cannot recommend a doctor more than I recommend Dr. Mahmud. My father has been a patient of doctor Mahmud for a long time. Recently I noticed a decline in the way she takes care of my Dad. Always in a hurry and always in a bad mood. Today we has scheduled an appointment to get a general checkup and ask about pain my father had been experiencing on his foot. She said we didn't have an appointment to do a physical and wanted to send us away. My dad's ability to move is very limited so it is extremely difficult to take him. Dr. Mahmud takes time to listen to you. She ask questions and then examines you. She refers to a specialist only when needed. She is very particular about and gives importance to preventive medicine. For example, she prescribed me with a set of back exercises to do daily at home, after I told her that the physical therapy helped my back pain and mild sciatica pain. She said doing those exercises regularly will keep my back pain free. Good news is I feel no pain and could walk daily a mile easily. No numbness in my feet either. I have had several visits to Dr. Mahmud. Each visit was a nightmare. She forcefully palpated my uterine area with no warning after grabbing my shoulders and laying me down-- I was there for a vaccine! She has the mentality, "just grab the person and work on them... no consent needed." I felt this forcefulness each visit. She seemed reluctant to address and of my medical complaints on subsequent visits and continually made specialist referrals without giving her opinion on the issues, even simple things or simple prescription requests. I would not recommend this doctor. About all she is good for is a referral to a specialist. She is afraid to be honest about your condition. She feels paranoid that acknowledging your pain and suffering will impact her license. She also on my last visit after diagnosing me with Arthritis threw my legs back and caused my back pain to get worse. I appreciate their hard work in correcting the mistakes that were made on my chart, they made sure the false information was removed. After several days of being in contact with Dr. Mahmud's employers, the attempt to bill me for a second copay had disappeared from my account. I will not be seeing Dr. Mahmud ever again and I do not recommend her to anyone. However if you have the misfortune of seeing her, and there are any mistakes, know that her employers will take great care of you and fix all the problems that may occur. The doctor is directly responsible for the early detection of cancer we have had. I was very much surprised because she was professional and thorough. She makes you think that you are the only person that matters.
