A small Japanese pastry shop located inside J-Town. You'll need to head all the way to the back, past the butcher shop to find this hidden gem! This little cafe sells coffee, lattes, mochi and dorayaki. They also have an online store where you can purchase their goods ahead of time so that you can get the flavours you want! If you purchase a box of 6 mochis, they don't charge tax. I'm not normally a fan of bean paste fillings but I must say, this cafe does it beautifully. They incorporate a variety of flavours with the bean paste filling and they are all delicious. The mochi is really soft and fluffy, some of the best I've had. Their flavours are also on seasonal rotation so check on their website to see what they have for sale. I got the sesame, yuzu, mango, strawberry, and matcha flavours. All of them were so delicious and fresh! You could really taste the distinct flavours of each and they're not overly sweet. Highly recommend!
I love this cute pastry shop, nestled at the far end of the JTown shopping complex. This is my go to when I need something to bring a dinner party or gathering and they are always a hit. The Mochi are the best I had in Toronto. Love the texture and flavour combinations. If you looking for something different to bring somewhere, I highly recommend there Mochis
So this boutique shop is tucked away in the unit right next to Yuzu No Ki (sharing a space w/ Tora Sushi). My gf and I did not even notice it the first time around when we visited Yuzu No Ki (which is also a 5 star shop btw). I must admit I'm not the biggest mochi fan, but the quality of these mochis were incredible. My gf ordered an assorted box of 6 mochis. Very fresh and I really liked the cream filled mochis more than the regular filling ones. Mango in particular, struck a deep chord w/ me. I love mango anything and the mango mochi did not disappoint. To get the best tasting experience, take your refrigerated mochis out and let them rest until room temperature before consuming. I found that the dough and filling had a better mouth feel upon waiting a bit after taking them out of the fridge.
There is no culture who can make a mochi or daifuku as well as the Japanese. Period. The perfect texture, perfect hint of subtle sweetness and a rice dough that stretches gently when pulled and melts in your mouth. I had the hojicha daifuku and it was sublime! Spouse had the red bean paste mochi. This establishment is solid. Their daifuku are divine.
Visiting J-Town and started my journey thru the front of the bakery and visiting all the rooms towards the fine pastry. At first glance, I was not interested but then decided to try the 4 pack (Mango, black sesame, roasted green tea and strawberry) $12. I brought them home and wow, was my first thought and bite. The black sesame was a delight, smooth and tasty which I wanted more than 1. Next day I went back for more, that was how happy I was. Highly recommend .
Woah, I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet :O Literally been buying mochi from here for as long as I can remember because the quality has remained consistently amazing time, and time again! I love that they have a really convenient online ordering system as well so that you can ensure you get the flavors you want even if you can't get to their store as soon as they open - I have often found myself ordering online ahead of time to avoid disappointment especially if I have my eye on their rotating season flavors. This time around, I got their hojicha, and maple (seasonal) flavors! The hojicha, and matcha (not pictured), are the two that I always go back to no matter what because I am all about tea flavors done correctly :D The maple one is one of their sweeter ones so I do often pair it with a black tea when I sit down to eat it - it's still 100% a flavor I would recommend people to try
We were at J Town waiting to get a seat at a restaurant nearby and came across this small pastry shop. We decided to get some drinks and try the mochi as well, got the houjicha latte and coffee and the sesame mochi. 1) Houjicha latte The tea had a nice flavour and it was not too sweet and they prepare it fresh as well. 2) Sesame mochi We really enjoyed it even a few hours later after buying it. It was nice and chewy and there was a lot of filling. It tasted really fresh. Service was also good. I would come back and try their other mochi flavour.
I'm a huge mochi fan, so during my visit to J-Town, I definitely couldn't resist picking up various mochi flavors to try. I went for four different flavors, in a box of 6. 1. BLACK SESAME: I love the aesthetic due to the contrasting colors between the layer of paste and the center of cream. Interestingly enough, the skin on this one was chewier compared to the other flavors. The flavor profile of this one was also strongest - definitely the best of the flavors I tried (4.8/5) 2. COFFEE: Overall, this had a softer texture. Like the black sesame, there's a contrast between the paste and the cream for a beautiful cross-section. The coffee notes were strong with minimal sweetness (4.7/5) 3. MANGO: This is another soft texture mochi. It had a mild mango flavor, which I wish was stronger (4.5/5) 4. MATCHA: I love the way they made their matcha cream which was strong in flavor and minimally sweet. However, there was quite a bit of red bean paste in here which was overpowering in my opinion (4.4/5) Though the interaction was short, the service was very friendly (with a smile!) My box of 6 worked out to be just under $18. A little pricey in my opinion but definitely worth a try with how well-made these specialty treats were.

I've had Sasaki Fine Pastry bookmarked for awhile and finally had the pleasure of trying it out this past weekend. True to all of the ratings before me, Sasaki is a great find and a gem inside J-Town! Daifukus are a must-try. There were 6 flavours available when I arrived: mango cream, sakura cream, sesame cream, cream, strawberry cream, and matcha cream. Although I was eager to try all the flavours, the less adventurous side of me won out and I ended up only grabbing 3 - mango, sakura, and sesame. All 3 were amazingly delicious! Daifukus were soft (albeit a little softer than I anticipated but still yummy nonetheless), flavours tasted authentic and 'fresh', and overall, all had the perfect level of sweetness. Definitely kicking myself for not grabbing the other flavours but at least now I have an excuse to go back :) I've been told that all items are very popular and usually sell out towards the tail end of the day so make sure you head there early! read more
Much thanks to Cherrie T. for finding this gem of place in Markham. Rice balls (mochi)...no big deal....had them all my life at Chinese Bakeries, frozen section of supermarkets, etc.. Dime a dozen I always thought....but comparing these Japanese Daifuku Mochi balls to the ones I'm use to would be like comparing a Bentley to Fiat. Sure a Fiat will get you from A to B but does it make you dream of driving it all the time like a Bentley???? That's exactly how I feel about these mochi balls...I want more!! They are so soft and tender with an almost silicon like feel to it and the taste was just amazing! Without sounding like a bad x-rated movie, they were the most delectable balls I ever had in my mouth! The combination of taste and texture really bring these daifuku to the next level as the care that goes into making them is obvious. They are pricey at $2.50 each but soooooo worth it. The only problem is eating them too fast! It is a little tricky to find as it's actually part of the Tora Sushi part of J-Town so make sure you go all the way to the end of the complex and though to the Tora Sushi doors. Definitely a new Foodie hot spot in Markham! Nom, nom, nom! read more
The mochi here is so expensive. It took my boyfriend 2-3 bites to finish one, really? This place is a little over hyped. I'm not saying the mochi is bad, but I wouldn't line up nor pay around $2.50 for the snack. We had the sakura and houjicha flavours, I would recommend the houjicha one. It's a very simple shop, not many seats, so getting the snacks to go is good enough. Verdict: I wouldn't come back again, but this is probably the best Toronto can offer for mochi. read more

I missed out on the opportunity to visit Sasaki while it was at Northtown and made the trip up to Markham with the SO and we didn't regret it. I'm not a fan of sweets but I'm OBSESSED with the Daifuku Cream and Mango. We've gone three times over the last couple of months and the mochi is always fresh. Just make sure that you go earlier in the morning so you can have your pick of flavours! read more
Wow. These daifuku pastries are god-tier. I tried the Houjicha and Matcha daifuku and they were both delicious. They were so soft and fluffy, yet still had the delicate wobble of mochi. It's honestly some of the best I've had, including the ones in Japan. I'll definitely be back! read more

One word DELICIOUS! Love their daifuku; the rice part is so soft and the filing is so delicious. They compliment each other nicely. I can easily eat 5-6 of these. They are $2.5 each plus taxes. This is a little Shop at the back of the supermarket in J town. I had knock off a star as their hours are very restricted and they close on long weekend. We attempted a few times before got to try. We got here around 2pm on a Sunday and they only had 3 strawberry daifuku left in the entire store; everything out was sold out. While the strawberry was very good and enjoyable, I was annoyed and disappointed that I didn't get to try other flavours considering having to make a trip to this plaza which was not continent for me. read more
Thanks to CT, I decided to go on a mission and went to Sasaki Fine Pastry to try the daifuku she was praising about! Came here on Saturday at around 230 and almost everything were sold out other than 2 regular dorayakis, 1 green tea dorayaki and 1 black sesame pudding. Of course JC #2 and I got whatever they had left. lol Dorayaki was amazing!! Out of the two I prefer the green tea one more because of the extra flavour. The portion of the red bean filling was great and the dorayaki was really soft!! Reminds of the one I had in Japan a few years ago. Black Sesame pudding on the other hand wasn't too impressive. Since I felt like something was missing without trying their daifuku, I came back the following day around 12 and got 6 daifuku!! Incase you are wondering, daifuku is Japanese mochi with fillings inside. Out of the 6, I ate the Matcha and Yogi (something) and both were so delicious! Mochi was soft and the filling was amazing!!! I would definitely come back again for more!! If you don't think you can finish the daifuku by end of day, make sure you put them in the refrigerator so it lasts longer and maintain the quality! read more
I'm glad I stalk new business openings on Yelp. That led me here today. I was a tad confused, as I went through the J-Town by the Sea entrance, and the sushi place on the left was closed, and I thought Sasaki was as well, but it wasn't, so huzzah! Got the sesame and the matcha daifukus ($2.50 each) to go. I wanted to try the chestnut one as well, but we'll save that for another day. We asked for them to go, and they were put in a small, plastic container with the Sasaki logo on it. Super cute. I felt like such a little kid holding that small plastic container walking back to the car. In a good way, though. I did not, and probably will not, have the sesame. Saving it for my brother. My dad had the other half of it. He liked it. He said it was soft. I had half of the matcha one though. It's ridiculously soft. I mean soft as in pillowy. Soft as in like a cloud. The matcha cream definitely had a dinstinct matcha taste, and worked incredibly well with the red bean inside. Another review mentioned that this mochi is about two bites. My half a mochi was a pretty big bite. I mean, it fit in my mouth, but I probably should have bit it in half again so that I could savor it properly, instead of trying to down it in one mouthful. At $2.50, I think it's justifiable as a special treat once in a while, but I doubt I'll make this part of my regular routine. Hm...actually, I think these daifukus would make a good dinner party present for someone. read more
Came here on opening day to support my friends friend's business. My rating is biased because of it but I will write down my honestcomments and suggestions. It's a little hidden past the fish section, and it's even more difficult to find when the door is closed because it doesn't look welcoming. However, the daifuku is very good. The owner told me that the selections change everyday, as they have to be made fresh! Good to know! On the downfall, it's a very small place with limited tables and for some odd reason, half the area is unusable because there is this gigantic sushi counter and other unused gadgets. I guess people can sit at the sushi bar.......... it looks like a cheap Cafe but with delicious daifuku. It was raining so there was a bucket in the middle of the cafe. Lots of renovation needs to be done. It's very difficult to say it's the "best daifuku" in town when there aren't many places that sell daifuku in Toronto - unless you get those prepackaged ones from the grocery store. Will obviously visit again! read more
My 3rd time coming here. This is how good this place is to me. They sell daifuku which only has a few selections only. Their daifuku is best IMO because of its price and they are so soft and fresh. Everything is so light and fluffy. I which they have more selection of drinks, so I can just relax drinking and eating my daifuku. Sometimes it is hard to know when they have daifuku in stocks. One time I came around 3pm and they were all sold out but they close at 5pm? read more

Hidden gem! Tiny pastry shop in the back of a little strip mall, but like all other reviewers stated, probably the best mochi I've had (and definitely the best and freshest I've tried in Toronto). Most of their daifuku have some sort of red bean paste with flavored cream, but my favourite was their sesame which had a sesame filling that tasted a bit like peanut butter. Definitely not close to my home, but willing to make the drive often for a treat! read more
I looooove this place for daifuku/mochi! The outside is so soft and chewy. They have 7 different flavours available and my favourite would be the matcha! Each daifuku is $2.50, which I would say is pretty reasonable. They only have 4 tables available, but every single time I come they're always empty. It's best to come here earlier, because they usually run out of some flavours! read more
I tried these delicious sweets that are similar to mochi in the sesame flavour and the strawberry flavour. They were so fresh, plump and full of their respective flavours but not overly sweet. Amazing how this place manages to do that so well and well worth the $2.50 each since they're a good size! I'm sad that I didn't get to try the matcha flavour as they were of course sold out of it by late afternoon. Tip: come earlier in the day for better selection. They're best eaten on the same day and kept cold. The interior doesn't look like much as the store has literally just a handful of tables, a cash register and a tiny display case with a few of each flavour of the Japanese sweets. It's also within a small plaza of other take out food shops that connect to each other and easy to miss if you don't know where it is. I live and work close to J-Town, I saw this bakery come up on Yelp as a new business and I'm glad I stopped by on Friday at 11:30pm before work. I haven't written a review in a long time but thought this was worth mentioning. When I got there, they had 6 of the 8 flavors remaining. I bought double orders of them all. They cost $2.5 each. Okay, I know what your thinking. I'm not a pig, I like to share...sharing is caring even if it's out of my pocket. My coworkers aren't foodie like myself. So they adventure thru me. I'm not going to lie I ate 3 out of 12 :) I have admit, other than Omei's mango mochi. Sasaki Bakery's is the bomb dot com! Once I bite into the mochi, I knew right away that premium ingredients were use. The softness/viscoelasticity of the gel consistency was the results of japonica glutinous rice and proper pounding of the dough. Not your typical glutinous rice that people use for sticky rice. All the mochi had the same red bean filling and cream flavor of your choosing. All the mochi blended well with red bean filling. My favorite was matacha but I didn't get the chance to try chestnut, strawberry and sesame cause my coworkers had those. The 9 coworkers that tried was all 1st timers, never heard of mochi but thought it was a Chinese dessert by association. Let's just say, they loved it! I'm not a fan of desserts because I watch what I eat but I know mochi is perfect when I'm craving for sugar. It's low-calorie, low-fat rice cake with the right amount of sweetness that didn't over power my palette. The size of the mochi was perfect for 2 bites, depending on how you eat it. Guys will probably eat it as a whole but you should take a small/half bite to savor the ingredients. The stores at J-Town are hidden if you're not familiar with the area. They don't use loud/large banners. Once you're parked, walk towards the yellow tarp/tent that says "J-Town." Than, walk straight ahead, near to the end. It'll be on your right. The signage is white and on the wall next to the door. Keep in mind Japanese stores normally closed on Mondays. Make sure to check the schedule. I ordered mine to go, it was nicely packaged in a container and placed in a paper bag with the Bakery's logo in the middle. I liked that the packaging is environment friendly where you can recycle everything when your done. read more

This cute place tuck away at the back end of Jtown. This delicious hojicha and mango Mochi is completely amazing. You gotta come to this place before 4:30pm to get your snack. These hand made mochi are soft, fresh and loaded with flavour. read more

Oh my goodness. By far, hands down the best mochi in North America. By the time we arrived to J-Town (around 4pm), most of the flavours had already sold out. I can totally understand why this small hole in the wall is so popping. I've tried a few flavours, but my favourites are definitely the black sesame and the green tea mochis. Both are filled with light whipping cream and are packed with sesame/matcha flavour. I've also tried the bean(?) non-refrigerated one but that one doesn't have any whipped cream in it. Gonna check out their new location in North York since it's much closer to home. Mmmm. read more
If you're looking for mochi specifically, then this is a place you'd want to try out. It's a cute little shop, that can be found inside j town supermarket, all the way to the left and shared with a sushi bar. Interior is clean and chic. Keep in mind, it's not a typical cafe where you sit and chat over coffee. It's a speciality pastry shop, which primarily serves mochi although there is a small selection of drinks you can purchase as well. We didn't spend too long there. Lovely mochi (daifuku) selection ranging from cream to matcha at $2.5 plus tax each. In my opinion, that is a bit steep for an individual mochi, but if you're in the area, I would recommend buying one to try. Mochi here is super soft and fresh. I would recommend putting it in the fridge for a bit before eating because it is soooooo soft we couldn't pick it up! I love the cream filled mochi, it was light and not too sweet! The packing was very nice and I got it for my sister's bday and she loved it. read more

Went to Japan this year and I have been trying to recreate all sorts of dishes. I visit Jtown 3 times a month to stock up on supplies and I never knew this little shop existed. It's tucked away near the sushi department. I honestly don't want to share the location because something this tasty will result in line ups but this is truly the best daifuku in town since our trip to Japan. Get the matcha and houchija to start and welcome to the world of soft creamy sweet deliciousness. $2.50 for a fresh daifuku is well priced. On the sweeter side were the red bean, chestnut and matcha. The houchija and coffee weren't as sweet and well balanced. Try one and you make the call. I always found the daifuku inside the grocery store a bit too sweet and dense but the fresh daifuku has that cream center that makes it less sweet. Oh, did I mention Sasaki makes Totoro cookies! read more

Cute little shop with a separate entrance within the J town shopping area. They have about 10 tables shared between them and another sushi stand. They sell hot drinks, cookies and their infamous mochi. We got strawberry, mango, houjicha, and red bean mochi. Matcha cream was already sold out by 3pm. All the mochi were delicious with a cream filling. Not too much dough, not super sweet and not drenched in powder. A delicious treat and worth the drive. They are also less expensive than at other shops. Will return for more! read more

Mochis are a bit pricy but that are some of the best Dafuku in the GTA we got a box of 6. One of each flavour, we enjoyed the strawberry the best. read more

Please handle with care; coz they are soft, light and tender. I have the sesame, chestnut, sakura and a dorayaki. The skin is thin and the filing is tasty. I would have given it a five-star if I haven't had the dorayaki. The dorayaki has lack the fluffiness. Good service and nice coffee. read more
