After devouring an apple pie BeaverTail, I needed a beverage to wash down what I had consumed. Next…read moreto BeaverTail was Lois 'n' Frima's Ice Cream. It seemed like the perfect place to get a beverage. This stop ended my snack-hopping stint at ByWard Market on a Thursday afternoon. I look back at how much damage I did. The funny part was that I had a yummy carb-heavy lunch, and ended up getting gelato, a shake, fruit and dessert fondue, and a BeaverTail afterwards. It was a good snack tour. It's one of my favourite moments being on vacation in Ottawa. It was completely indulgent. I waited in line. There was a family ahead of me, trying to decide what everyone wanted. It was enough time for me to figure out what drink I wanted. I spotted Slush Puppies. Buying one seemed perfect on yet another hot summer day in the city. When I got there, I asked the woman what Slush Puppies flavours were available. She was shocked that there wasn't a sign and almost doubted that there wasn't one. If there were a sign, I wouldn't have asked you what flavours you had. It was quite the weird interaction. Her sidekick rattled off every flavour effortlessly off the top of her head. Perhaps that's why there isn't a menu with all Slush Puppies flavours. You have this amazing creature spewing the list of flavours for you. Cream soda sounded great. I got a medium. I paid with a credit card. It took maybe three minutes to get my drink. I thanked the woman who handed it to me and walked over to my car, drinking it. A Slush Puppies should be slushy. Mine was not. I felt like I was drinking a cream soda, minus the carbonation. It wasn't horrible. Just not what I had expected. Maybe the machine didn't like the hot weather and refused to slush out. The cream soda flavour was good. It was sugary, so I'm glad that I did not go with a large. This stall does have hot dogs, poutine, chili, and more. Maybe they are prepared better than the Slush Puppies that I consumed. (321)

He has a peanut allergy so he had an inmediate allergic reaction that made him violently ill for hours. We were lucky that his airway wasn't totally affected and we did not need his EpiPen. The young people working there said they just mixed up the flavours since they looked similar. And they also mentioned that the scoops are stored in the same water buckets between uses. This seems unfathomable in a world filled with people with peanut allergies. There should be some precautions put in place to avoid killing someone. It's not hard, they just seem lazy and that they do not care about their customers. I will never go there again.

The Long Version: My husband and I love Farmers' Markets and since the Parkdale Farmers' Market is within walking distance for us, we go often. This year (2025) we noticed a new vendor: Tito Leo's BBQ. So we had to check it out. We got a small chicken BBQ platter with half rice and half fries ($10 taxes included). The rice is Java rice, which is rice cooked in chicken broth and turmeric. It was good and more exciting than just plain white rice. The fries were shoestring fries, my favourite cut. The chicken was chopped up BBQ chicken layered on top of the rice and fries. A tangy BBQ sauce was poured over everything. The chicken was tender and moist. I would have preferred less BBQ sauce because the dish was a little too saucy for my liking, but overall I still really enjoyed it. My husband liked it too. Service was courteous and efficient. They have a few private tables in front of their kiosk, but there's the main seating for the market too if those tables are occupied. There's also picnic tables at Parkdale Park right next to the market. We were lucky to score one of the private tables. There are a few parking spots at The Parkdale Farmers' Market. Otherwise, there's street parking, both paid and free spots in the area. Review #123 (2025)

It was offering a BOGO deal on Korean beef corndogs. It was exactly what I needed! I placed an order for two beef corndogs with garlic sugar. I also got a Diet Coke. My timing was perfect. I placed the order in my car that was parked at RCGT Park. My order would be ready by the time I got to Seoul Dog. What was a pleasant, perhaps shocking, surprise was heading downtown just past 8 pm and finding out that Seoul Dog has a parking lot. Free parking. What?! I felt like it was either a mistake or I had won a mini jackpot. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I got to the counter and indicated that I had an Uber Eats order. The nice woman handed me a paper bag with my items in it. I thanked her and happily left with my order. I headed back to my hotel room and chowed down. On Uber Eats, the corndog was going for $9. It's kind of pricy considering that Chun Chung offers fancy rice dogs at $7 tops. I will admit that the ones at Seoul Dog are a bit longer, so perhaps that makes paying $9 a dog a bit easier to take. I got my corndogs plain. As much as I dig ramen chip and potato cubes, I wanted something simple. I got both corndogs sprinkled with garlic sugar. I didn't know what it meant. Luckily, there isn't any sugar. It looks more like powdered sugar, but it's all garlic. As a garlic lover, it was the perfect garlicky level of yumminess. The beef hot dog in each one was plump and juicy. I liked that the batter was crispy on the outside, which a mild chewiness that was enjoyable. The cold Diet Coke washed everything down so nicely. It hit the spot. It was wonderful trying out a local Korean corndog joint and having a couple of corndogs for dinner. It made up for the small hot dog that I had at the ballpark. I'm thinking that the ballpark should offer corndogs from Seoul Dog. It's easy to eat them on sticks. (258)

Long before ChungChun Rice Dog infiltrated the Kogo market, lol. They started out on Clarence St and then moved to Lyon St and now are on O'Connor St. I really enjoyed their beef corndog. I got it with the regular dough, but you can get it with spicy jalapeno dough too (for an additional $1). I also got it plain, but you can get it topped with potatoes pieces or ramen chips (again for an additional $1). I got the garlic sugar sprinkle and spicy ketchup and mustard sauces. The beef corndog is regularly $9 but UberEats was having a BOGO deal, although the price is $10 on UberEats so I paid $10 for 2. The beef hotdog was juicy, and the batter was crispy on the outside and had a pleasant slight chewiness on the inside. It wasn't too thick. Admittedly, garlic sugar sounded weird to me as a sprinkle on top, but it oddly works and tastes good. It's super garlicky though, you have been warned. They gave us 1 tiny packet of mustard and a tiny Solo cup of spicy ketchup for both corndogs (see picture). The spicy ketchup was tasty and not too spicy. I dumped the container into the box and dipped the corndog in it because there's no way the corndog would fit into the tiny cup. I also opened the packet of mustard and squirted the contents into the box for dipping. So while I thought it was tasty and reasonable with the BOGO deal, I personally think the regular price is too high for what it is. The regular beef corndog is only $4.99 at ChungChun. Yes, ChungChun is a chain, and I always root for the underdog, but twice the price is too much for me. Seoul Dog does have the option of Jalapeno dough, which ChungChun does not have. Their current location is great because it has free parking, which is very rare for a restaurant downtown. They also have both indoor and outdoor seating and a lot of both. I picked up my UberEats order and the pickup was smooth. I got there early so just hung out outside until the app told me it was ready. I entered as soon as the app alerted me it was ready and they were just packing it up. No complaints with pickup. I'm glad I got to try the OG in Ottawa kogo, lol (still need to try the OG in Montreal kogo at Picks on Saint Marc, which was years before it's time, but I digress). They also sell Korean donuts at Seoul Dog. Not exactly sure what these are, but I'm interested to try them, especially since they have an apple flavoured one.

Oh man! I know it's…read more"just a casse croute" joint...but then again, it is totally NOT JUST a casse croute joint. Happened upon it thanks to recommendations from our awesome CM Risa (who told Mariko, who told me, who told... U get the picture) because it happens to be right in primo hiking and camping territory right off the highway (117-N). (Like literally RIGHT off the highway: SLAM ON YOUR BREAKS! OH NO, YOU MISSED IT! OH MAN, HAFTA GO BACK AROUND! ...and it is SO worth it, so do go back around if you miss it lol.) This seems to be a little family run spot. Son is definitely the best at providing friendly, sweet service, Dad's not terrible but not super bubbly or anything and Mom ...well she's a weird one, but it seems like once she recognizes you service becomes sweet and very attentive all of the sudden, so bonus points when you come often! And luckily the food is just so damn good that finding excuses to come back is really not an issue. Been here a few times now, hands down it's their Special Burger with the absolute win, don't even argue w me! Burger: let them all dress it for you "the special", a delcious seasoned homemade pattie (albeit small, but so tasty) topped with cheese and hot peppers and tomatoes n lettuce n onion, their special house creamy sauce, and ALFALFA SPROUTS?! WHAAAAAT?! Fking LOVE that about this place. Ive tried their other menu items and (still have a few to try), but so far I can't not order at least 1 burger here when I come. Fries: o-m-f-g-excellent by themselves, unfortunately I wasn't too impressed with the result in the poutine, but maybe we ate our poutine too fast and needed to give it time to let the flavours marry a bit better. I just keep ordering the fries by themselves though, small in portion, but HUGE in taste! Homemade Pogos?! : that's right folks, they take hotdogs and dip them in their own homemade batter and deep fry scratch pogos for ya on the spot! They are really good, but really tiny and expensive and essentially just taste like an ordinary hotdog in a really damn tasty dough. Chicken burger: hmmm the chicken was really good, but had an odd texture, same toppings as the Burger so that's amazing too, but the bun is slightly too big and the chicken slightly too weird for this to be something I'd order regularly. They also boast many vegetarian options here too like the pogos and veggie dogs and I am told it's amazing, but I'm not buyin into that, gimme the meats! Price is quite expensive for a little road side truck stop, but the quality and love put into this food makes it worth every penny spent so I can't even remove a star for that. There's one tiny bathroom which is not ideal, but does the trick. There's outdoor seating and 'indoor seating' (screened in dining area). And also a kyoot space for kids to play (swing set). This place is quiet at the beginning of the season, but gets busier as summer goes along. We were always in and out within 10-15 minutes, though. Even if it took longer I would still give this place 5 stars the food is that amazing. Perfect little pit stop. A must-stop for sure and I even recommend going out of your way for this. Dammit. Now I want another burger and fries.
