Ordered a Wow sized regular poutine. This is probably the nastiest poutine I have ever tasted. I ordered ahead of time on their website. Got there and the girl working hadn't even started. I would say if you are very hungry, go with the regular/medium size. Not so hungry? Go with a small. The large is more for if you wanna split it with someone or people with bottomless stomaches. The bacon poutine comes piled high with bacon, oh my! They are generous with the gravy and the cheese curds. We also tried the butter chicken poutine. So I used to LOVE Smoke's poutine. Like 10+ years ago. It was great for after the clubs back then. We wanted poutine and apparently we've been on a nostalgic kick of visiting our early 20s spots. The poutine itself was delicious but it definitely made me sick. I had diarrhea for the next week. My first sign should've been that when we walked in, it smelled so stale and mouldy that we didn't want to sit down to eat so we took our food back to the mall. When I get a poutine, I go across the street to 3 brothers. 3 Brothers has the best poutine in town. Add chicken or beef and you're set. The first time I went there, I asked for a fork and the guy gave me attitude and said they were around the corner. Or you could just give me a fork, at your job. I tried this place for the first time a couple weeks ago and was not only pleased with the varieties of poutine and how good it was but truly blown away by the customer service. Not knowing the layout, my girlfriend and I, aswell as our ten month old son who was in a stroller arrived inside only to see two or three stairs to get up to the main level. We started to lift the stroller up and were immediately greeted by an employee who had offered to assist. Following this we realized that we were the first customers for the day which he brought up and was really engaging asking if we'd ever been there before and giving us a great introductory to the choices we had before us. Within a few minutes several other customers came in and he was able to greet them with the same positive attitude. I wish I had caught the guys name because it's not often I get such great customer service but this guy really deserves this five star rating. We all left happy with stickers and pretty awesome poutine. That being said I also really enjoyed my poutine which was loaded with great meats! If your feeling gluttonous and like Poutine then this is the place for you and if you enjoy a classic as opposed to one with tons of bells and whistles then you'll like the one they offer here too. I often feel like this place gets a bad deal on the negative reviews. As someone who used to keep an area poutine blog, I know I should have a better reason for giving it four stars, but -- I just inexplicably like everything about this place and the people who run it. The poutine is very good, though it does fall short somewhat of being great. The restaurant itself is tiny (don't bring your family of eight -- five of you will be hanging out in the kitchen), but the few times I've been I've managed to find a perch. The staff is fun, lively, and happy to tell stories of Smoke himself. Mostly, I think I just love that downtown Ottawa finally got a a poutinerie -- a place unashamedly dedicated to the making and selling of our national pride and joy. After spending two+ months in Canada, I can say that Smoke's has the best poutine I've had yet. But I haven't yet really developed a taste for the Canadian delicacy, and the ones I've tried before have been less-than-mediocre. Pulled pork poutine is definitely the one to get. The peppercorn chicken poutine also sounded tasty, but I found the sauce to be both very bland and intensely peppercorny at the same time. This place was once alright ... I remember loving this place in Toronto. When I saw they were opening in Ottawa last year I was really excited. The first time I came was over a year ago and I really liked the triple pork poutine...I won't even wander down here after a night out anymore. The cashier was very helpful in informing us about the menu and its options. After we placed our order, I noticed the cashier start to make our food. I wasn't sure if he was wearing gloves, I just thought it was odd he was handling both the money and food. On to the food. I ordered the traditional poutine that came with gravy, cheese, and duck fat on top of fries. In the US, I'm not used to eating such a big portion of fries, or gravy for that matter. The first few bites are amazing, but after more bites I began to feel dazed and overwhelmed. For me, I would share poutine with a friend, or eat it as a snack or appetizer. I'm going to be completely honest I didn't enjoy this place one bit. Its a poutine shop so they should make a poutine that makes others poutine weep in shame. They should make a poutine that makes me want to drive from Barrhaven just for it. Instead what they serve in a cardboard box is a low quality poutine with a different things on top. Hands down the best, absolute best poutine gravy I've ever had. I've had poutine from many many places from many provinces and this place is the absolute best. The place is a just small hole in the wall, but most of the worlds best places are. If you can't find a poutine you like here, then you shouldn't be eating poutine. I've had their Nacho Grande, Triple Pork, Bacon, and Bacon Cheeseburger; all of which were exceptional and even with all that sauce and gravy the fries didn't turn to mush when I have took my order to go. Go hungry and you won't be disappointed. Tip: Where loose fitting pants and only get the large if you're planning to share. I saw another reviewer post a picture of the turkey dinner poutine... sounds heavenly! Is that a seasonal item? I did not see it on the menu when I visited in march. We went around 4pm and did not have to wait long for our poutine. However, I have been told by my boyfriend that this place gets extremely crowded and has a line down the street during peak dinner hours, and late at night it becomes full of crazy drunk people.
