"4" for the long line, but, a "5" for the 3 employees for their patience. I arrived at 10:30am for my 10:45am appointment to renew my driver license today. Ridiculous to find a long line that snaked out into the stairwell. This long line is for everyone with an appointment and not. This was changed from having 2 separate lines and the genius power to be decided to change to 1 line! An employee with a clipboard would come out to check everyone for their purpose of being in line. Because I had an appointment made with their online Aloha Q, he pulled me out, looked at my application and gave me a number. I then proceeded to the waiting area at 10:44am and, finally, was seen around 11:10am! Although, I brought my birth certificate, 2 proof of residency, eye check certificate from my optometrist so I don't have to get my eyes checked with their icky eyes check machine and current driver license, I was told unless I had changed my address or name, I only needed my current driver license, money to pay the fee and my eyes checked certificate! Oh, if you're already a registered voter, you do not need to re register by completing the application that's attached to the renewal driver license application! What! Grrrrr... Both the employee who took my application, current driver license and the employee who my fingerprints and photo were knowledgeable. pleasant and friendly. Made an appointment on Aloha Q for an appointment at 9 am when they open. Unusual thing is because this branch is at Pearlridge Center which opens at 10 a.m. you must wait for the dmv employee to come up so the security guard can open the doors. The employee checks you off on his clipboard, make sure you have your appointment confirmation code. Once you go down a floor head to their office at far left. You will be checked for your id and application. Somehow I missed the part about filling in an application so I was given one and proceeded forward but filled in the form first before taking a seat. Luckily it was just a duplicate drivers license I needed since the lamination on mine was peeling off from one top edge. My number was called to window 2 and I had the nicest young man. I told him I no longer needed glasses as a restriction since I had both eyes cataract surgeries. He asked if I wanted to take the eye test. Yes! I passed. Bring your check made out to City and County of Honolulu for $6. Next you move over two windows to your left, get fingers scanned then get your photo retaken. Hooray! At the earliest your plastic license will be mailed to you in 2 weeks. You get a cool temporary license with your photo and information on it. Only catch is you cannot travel with a temporary license. Fortunately I can travel using my passport as ID when I travel internationally. In and out in half an hour. I received a notice that my driver's license was going to expire in 6 months, so I went to the Aloha Q website to make an appointment. The closest satellite city hall to me had an appointment available in 4 months, so I opted for Pearlridge which was only a 2 month wait. I arrived at the mall a few minutes early and parked by Ross wanting to walk through the store to get into the mall. However, Ross wasn't open until 9am, so I waited there. When they opened, the worker let everyone know that the inside gate to the mall wouldn't be open because the mall didn't open until 10am. I thought that was strange so I checked my appointment time and verified that it was before 10am. I went to a different entrance and there was a line of people waiting too. Luckily, someone came out of the mall and someone else grabbed the door before it shut and everyone walked in and headed up to the satellite city hall. When I got to the entrance, the worker asked me if I had an appointment. I confirmed it with the info on my phone. Then she asked me if I filled out the paper application and brought it with me. I didn't know about that so she hands me a clipboard and I fill it out before heading up to the window. At least a half dozen other people behind me also did not fill out the application either. Everything else went smoothly and quickly, so yay. I asked the worker at the window how I was supposed to get in if the mall didn't open until 10am. She said I was supposed to go to the door by the monorail on the Macy's side of the mall. After hearing and experiencing all of this, I went back on the Aloha Q website to see how I missed all this information. The appointment before mall hours info was indeed there, but only a short blurb BEFORE you start getting into the appointment process. Also, I didn't go through the entire process to see where they were supposed to tell me to fill out the paper application beforehand. I do believe that the all the necessary information is there, BUT, due to the large amount of people that I saw making the same mistakes that I did, plus some reviews I've read on Yelp after the fact, I think the City needs to think of different ways to get this information across to people. I'm not sure if there was some glitch in the system when I made my appointment, but I received no email confirmation or instructions. Luckily, I had made a screenshot of my appointment date and time so I knew when to go. That, coupled with the fact that my appointment was made 2 months prior, and there was no way I'd remember anything anyways with no email confirmation close to my appointment date. Anyways, TLDR: Special entrance by monorail for appointments before 10am. Fill out your application ahead of time for driver's license renewals. Otherwise, pretty good service. read more

I made an appointment on AlohaQ.com because my aunty's Driver's License will expire in a few months. Things happen: I might be busy at that time; She might catch a cold again; I might forget; etc. Let's just do it now when I have time, right? I don't wanna stress out later. Located on the upper level of "Uptown Pearlridge", closer to the ROSS wing, and across from Hickam Federal Credit Union, we were greeted right away and skipped the super long line. Aloha, I've come here before and there was a very long line which extended out the door. People just waited their turn. It was a wait, almost 2 hours. Five years later and reservations are available if you plan early and I mean early like months, unfortunately I was able to utilize the months out in advance, so when I arrived without a reservation along with others were told to sit and wait and they would help if there was time in between the official appointments. I arrived before it opened at 8, and was #4 I was seen 3 hours after arriving. There were some people called ahead of me who didn't have appointments, but I didn't challenge. Once inside the lady was fast and throughly completed my drivers renewal. She was friendly and funny too Appointments four months out are not convenient, please find another way to make more times available. Mahalo read more

I have to update my review as my last review was 8 years ago. I'm giving 5 stars because this was the most quick, efficient, and pleasant dmv experience I've had here and I just got home. I like that you can make appointments for drivers license stuff and they have an express line for things like bus pass, registration, etc. I came here at 2pm on a FRIDAY. The line wasn't too long, and they didn't have very many windows open but it moved quick enough. The girl helping the express line (wish I got her name) was SO nice. Usually you dread the dmv because you know how unpleasant they can be sometimes but no, I watched her interact with every customer she had and she never dropped her smile. Anyways, I needed to renew my registration and get some new plates and I was in and on within the hour. Who is the cotton headed ninny muggin who thought she had the correct paperwork needed to show proof of residence for her license renewal and brought it to her set appointment was turned away, then had to spend the next half hour scrambling to get correct paperwork? This guy. Erm, I mean girl. So you're probably wondering why I gave it five stars. Well, this series of unfortunate events was purely my fault (I take all responsibility for it-- folks, make sure your proof of residence especially for billing statements is not older than 2 months... they won't accept it). I set up my appointment two weeks before through AlohaQ because luck was on my side as my license expiration date loomed over my head. I got my appointment for today, Friday at 10:30. The line was organized and there were people who were helping to work the line and get people through. They were efficient, nice and friendly. I was shown to the line that I was supposed to be in for my license renewal proud that I had prepped everything I need beforehand like the responsible adult that I am. (Later on I would be surely humbled). My number got called on time and I had minimal waiting to do. I went to the counter and discovered that, yep, I was not that much of a responsible adult after all. However! She did give me an orange standby card that I could use so I could come back before 3:30 and they would fit me in if they were ahead of their appointments. She also gave me pointers like going to my nearest bank and getting a bank statement and grabbing my car registration. A junk situation but she was pretty helpful. After being humbled, I came back the second time today, this time hoping and praying I had all I needed. Once again, the wait wasn't too bad, and William helped me through the license renewal. And good news guys! I got my license renewal! He was super helpful and friendly and despite my mishaps and series of unfortunate events I still have pretty nice things to say about this place. Extremely unprofessional staff here, I witnessed a worker arguing with a man infront of everyone speaking loudly for no justifiable reason. The man was not yelling at her or making a scene he was just standing on the side not near an exit or walkway or invading anyone's privacy he just was not comfortable sitting.. and she started yelling at him infront of everyone. How do you know this man doesn't have a health issue, Be a professional. What is the use of telling people to come back and giving a return slip when you are not gonna be prioritized? We asked them and they said they are prioritizing appointments over return slips. We've been waiting for 3 hours already. This is insane, talking about "I'll be here tomorrow, going to help you" yet nothing happened. It's better if you just told us to just get an appointment instead of a return slip. It really doesn't make sense with this return slips. This is not worth the wait. Took 1 star off because even with an appointment you have to wait. What doesn't make sense to me is how long and how unhelpful they can be sometimes. Not all the time, but sometimes. Gave 4 stars for their location mainly. After an ANNOYINGLY LONG wait and confusion that sometimes come with going to City Hall. AT LEAST your waiting in an indoor mall with AC. That's definitely a PLUS! Also afterwards you can go treat yourself to something good to eat or a little goody since Ross is near by and other stores. Just so happen I purchased a vehicle through private party over the weekend and needed to do a title change. I went online to look up what was needed and made an appointment for the same day (I looked Monday morning). On the website it also mentions you're able to check toward closing time for cancellations. I was worried it'd be weeks before I'd get an appointment! So 10 minutes before my appointment time I walked over and theres a line forming outside. They made sure you have an appointment and arrange the line according to time slot. As the customers clear inside, they let more in to be seated or lined up depending on which service you need. Before you enter they ask that you sanitize. Entrance is one way only and there is another door to exit through. I'm assuming because my appointment was added for same day there might have been a glitch in system. My number kept getting pushed down about 10-15 minutes past my appointment time. The ladies guiding customers were on it and made sure I was seen in order before others they brought in. Although I was there for my title change, I was glad to discover I could put in my order for vanity plates as well. I was thinking I needed to wait for my registration in order to place the order. As long as I have my reg in hand at the time of plate pick up, can do! Cool! Normally I would dread visiting the DMV or Satellite City Hall, but this visit made me feel productive. All I see are lines and restless people waiting around for who knows what? With the AlohaQ appointment website, it was convenient. Hopefully no more spending half the day trying to get things done. While we're slowly transitioning out of the covid pandemic, pearl city satellite city hall has opened on Saturdays for renewals only and by appointment only via alohaQ. I was relieved when I was finally able to get an appointment to renew my son's driver's permit since it was expiring at the end of the month. They have a rope to guide the line of applicants, and a small table at the very front to check the applicant in before going in. Only applicants, and no other person is allowed to enter. Front is very friendly and informative. Check-in was super fast since it was by appointment only. Since it is in pearlridge mall, very convenient, clean and cool, and lots of parking. read more

Normally, this DMV is the best DMV I've ever experienced. However, I had the worse experience I've ever had here today. Normally, I would just show my documents, ID, and it would be an easy transaction. That was not the case today. There are a few points of frustration for me today. 1. The Filipino lady at window #1 wouldn't accept the deed I brought in because it wasn't the original. Which didn't make sense to me because I brought the FULL document WITH THE NOTARIZED PAGES. 2. After that, I had to call my husband who was right there in the room to give me a copy of the escrow document she accepted for him like 30 minutes before my appointment. REALLY?! She would accept an escrow COPY document over a copy of a deed? So stupid. 3. Then she had me sit down, and wait while she served someone else, even though I was able to produce another document within seconds. At this point I was over her and did not want to be helped by her. I wanted to be helped by someone else because obviously this lady was not helpful at all. 4. And one of the worst parts was when I had to go back to her window, she made an assumption that the reason why I was crying was because I couldn't understand what she was saying. First of all, I was born and raised in the U.S. so English is my native language. I could understand her perfectly well. I was crying out of frustration because of how inept she is. She needs to be fired or needs to retire. Absolutely unacceptable treatment of another human being. The one star is for the lady at the express window who made my transaction for my registration as smooth as possible after that terrible experience. Driver's License Renewal Looked on Aloha Q and this location had the earliest available time. Made an appointment for 2:15 pm. Showed up at 2:10 pm and finished at 2:25 pm. This location is on the 2nd floor of the Pearlridge Mall. Walk past the food court, take the escalator to the 2nd floor and turn left. Upon arrival, I was greeted at the door and asked to fill out an application. Upon completion, I was directed to sit at a chair labeled #1. Walking up to the chair and before sitting down, I was called to a window. At the window Krystal asked to see my driver's license and 2 documents to show proof of Hawaii residency. I showed my HMSA bill and page 1 of my Central Pacific Bank statement. Both were acceptable. Signed some paperwork, then had my photo taken. One minute later, I had a temporary ID and was on my way out. Krystal was awesome!! Super friendly and efficient. read more

THANKS AUNTY NAT! Been here twice this year to do car registration and renew my license - both times were fast and to the point. Im lucky I had wonderful encounters with all the staff. This review is to praise Aunty Nat, who helps with drivers licenses in the back, as she was super friendly and understanding. She allowed me to renew my license under my maiden name, get the gold star on my ID, and make sure I liked my ID picture haha. Prices are posted on the wall and they have a limited capacity due to COVID. Lots of sanitizing procedures in place and arrows on the ground. I highly recommend making an appointment through the alohaq website to save the time of standing in the no appointment line. They also have all the forms on the site so you can fill it our prior. These are the best options to minimize time spent within the facility. This is my preferred location going forward for any car or ID needs. Great customer service all around! read more

I am so disappointed on their system toward the foreigners that I'd like to share with all who resides here! To my experience I hope I can share the information State Law doesn't show on their website for foreigners unless I went through it. Some may know but I was not aware of their paper work for people with green card or permanent residency card. I told them that I came down a month ago to inquire to the representative out in the front with the USIC letter in order to have the State ID renewal. I told her my mother-in-law 94 years old needs to make a Japanese passport but she needs to have her expired State ID (12/2020) renewed. She said, "why does she needs it her life not long to live!" How rude is that! I kept my composure. I then firmly said, she still needs her passport. I explained her appointment date is August 13. The day came we both went in waited few minutes until name was called. I presented all the forms until staff said this is not the form! The USIC FORM SHOULD BE with alphabet A..she's pointing to the paper! That form shows that her green card is under processing. I told them then why wasn't I told that when I came a month ago after I showed the letter to the person in front she said bring the USIC I-797C with the stamp envelop on the day of the appointment. Why doesn't the State write about it for all foreigners about it! Or is it federal and state do their own separate business? (Hey I'm not a international attorney to have the knowledge of the governing portal). Two state female staff knew it but how do I know their portal for my first time dealing with this issue! I was humiliated and upset not on how I was treated that they didn't give me the correct information when I came down to ask. Also, I found out on this day at the satellite office - the government made a proclamation extending Driver's and State ID renewals until May 3rd 2023...did I know it no I didn't...hope I heard it right too? I sincerely hope whoever works there in front be knowledgeable about all the portal including foreigners besides US citizens ! read more

Stopped by this afternoon to get my car registration renewed because I had not received my renewal notice and when I attempted to do this online, the system said it was ineligble for renewal. The system doesn't even given you a reason & there was no Q & A for this. I found this odd because my renewal is at the end of July so thought it would be best to go in person to see what the problem is. I noticed online that this location has an express window for a few things including car registration renewals....that sold me since I didn't have an appointment. I went in just before 1PM. There were no long lines at the entrance with only 1 man ahead of me in the Express line. The clerks greet the person in line & takes them/or tells them which window to go to. The 2 women I saw that did this, were very nice & friendly. When it was my turn, I had one of those women. Once inside and standing in the express window line, it only took a few minutes as there were 3 people ahead of me. When I got to the window, a young man assisted me & not only solved the issue of being ineligible but answered the few other questions I had in a patient & nice way, not rushing me. He told me ineligible in the system most times meant you're too early to pay and that they accept payment 2 weeks prior to the new month (or 45 days early). With that in mind, he said on Monday I would be able to pay for my renewal either in person, online, or at a kisok. I was much relieved. On my way out the door, I spoke to one of the nice ladies and thanked them for being so nice. It was refreshing. I had feared that I would have the same experience as the previous 1 star reviewers & almost went to a different satellite city hall but decided to go here & am glad I did. I'm sorry for the folks that didn't get the 5-star experience they expected & maybe it was my lucky day for me but it was indeed everything I would expect for good customer service. You couldn't even tell you were in a DMV because they didn't act like the typical DMV employee. Going in the afternoons seemed to be the best time, it wasn't crowded & no long lines. Even though I was not able to do the transaction, I was out of there in minutes. The person by the front door was nice and helpful and the two women who helped me at the counter were super nice, they helped me with both services, answered my questions and did everything promptly and correct. 12/27/22 with the appointments pretty much required, the DAV has improved the process making your wait time less. What they didn't do was realize that the fireworks permit pick up is like a reservation: it's paid and just need to pick up. Instead, I had to wait in the express line which is the walk in line that serves everything from vehicle registration to forms drop off. It took me over an hour to just pick which is ridiculous. Okay, I know Dmvs have the reputation of rude staff, but for one person telling me one thing the day before, to a different lady telling me one thing the next day is messed. The first day the young girl with glasses was helpful, and told me to bring back the correct paper and I'll be taken care of. The next day I get to the window, no greeting or smile or anything from this aunty. I hope she's feeling better now, but besides that, she tells me I have to make an appointment when the day before I was told all I needed was to bring back the documentation required. My transaction was probably going to take too long idk. Over all, I get it, you work at the dmv and have to deal with ppl all day, but should've at least acknowledge the customer instead of going straight to questioning the paper work they're holding. Information just needs to be the same for everyone, and not cause it may take a few minutes longer to help me out. I drove to wahiawa and they took care of me luckily. I went to get a parking permit on Monday, the greeter at the front was pleasant and informed me I needed an appointment. She went right over to the self serve screen and made the appointment for me. She apologized that she did not have one for Tuesday but there were 2 appointments for Wednesday and set me up. When I arrived on Wednesday I was greeted politely. The lady called name and told me she could help me earlier than my scheduled appt. She was caring and professional. I thought the service was excellent. read more
