Props to Mollie Brunn at the service counter for a really great experience. She was polite, professional, friendly, and fast. I went in to transfer a vehicle title and registration into my name and was expecting that it would take forever. I had an appointment thru the AlohaQ website that I made a week ago and went in about fifteen minutes early. The location was pretty full, so I was glad that I had an appointment. I checked in at the front and was instructed to take a seat to be called. They have an electronic sign board behind the counters so you can see your appointment number, time, and place in line. Mollie called out my name about 5 minutes later and directed me to a window that was closed. She helped me there and verified my paperwork, and instructed me how to complete it. The entire process only took less than 5 minutes, and I was done with my new title and registration in hand. Hooray!! read more

I went here to renew my driver's license today and was amazed at how quick and easy the process was. I made an appointment at AlohaQ several weeks ago, arrived 20 minutes early, and was greeted by a nice lady. She asked if I had an appointment and if I had all the documents filled out, which I did in advance, and she checked me in for my appointment. She then had me sit in the orange seat section of the waiting area. I must have lucked out because the appointment before me was a no show so I got called up pretty quickly and was helped by a very nice local lady. After a quick eye test and picture, I was done in less than 10 minutes and I was walking out the door 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment time. I see the negative reviews, but my experience here was absolutely wonderful. I don't normally post reviews, but felt I needed to share my positive experience to let others know that Windward City Satellite City Hall has amazing staff and the process can be quick and painless, especially if you have all of your paperwork filled out in advance. I never, ever thought I'd review a satellite city hall. I wandered into this one to see if I could find information on how to transfer a title. Sure enough there were massive examples of "how to" on the walls and I found the one I needed in no time. As I stood there looking at the wall-sized instructions that I could actually see without reading glasses, a very pleasant voice asked if I had an appointment. I looked at the person who asked and it was a beautifully dressed woman. I thought it was a customer and said something like oh no, I'm just looking at the instructions, and moved a little to the side in case I was inadvertently in their line. The woman pulls out an example car title and starts explaining it to me. Step by step. Clear and easy. I repeated it back to her and she repeated it back to me, there was no way I wasn't going to remember what I needed to do and when. I was so grateful! I left the comfortably air conditioned office with renewed faith in our system, and that in Kaneohe, that they are definitely taking care of our people. read more

This satellite city hall is located in the windward city shopping center by L&L and they open at 8am! I had to renew my registration, got here around 9am and stood in line for the express window. They only have 1 express window for walk ins and the rest are for appointments. There were only 5 people in front of me and I was probably here for all of 30 minutes!! Contrary to other reviews, I had a really friendly worker that helped me. I renewed my registration and changed my license plate. Paid everything, got my plates and was out of there! Quick and easy, come prepared with all necessary documents and payment and it should be a breeze. I'm not always on the windward side but I think I may come back for renewals as the wait seemed less than pearlridge where I normally go to. read more

First in person walk in visit to a DMV Satellite location since the pandemic panic restrictions. Masks are now optional, social distancing for the most part on line not so much in the seating areas. Good practice to come prepared with your own mask just in case the virus vibe sneaks up on you or you are next to someone that is coughing or looks suspect. The check in process is rather routine, I was walking in to claim my first Handicapped Parking Placard, in preparation of my much anticipated knee replacement surgery. I arrived just before noon on a Wednesday and had 3 people ahead of me. The wait time was about 20 minutes, having only one window dedicated to walk In appointments. Drivers License Renewal I would definitely recommend an appointment. Lots of posted information on the walls dealing with all aspects of local government licensing & taxes. Be prepared and have patience with the hard working service representatives behind the plexiglass windows. Plenty of free parking in the shopping plaza. Glad this isn't a regular stop for me. Kaneohe Satellite City Hall had lots of same day appointments available which was awesome, however physical accessibility-wise, is NOT elderly friendly :( There is one handicap stall near the L&L Hawaiian BBQ storefront but other than that, this location is hard to access for someone in a walker/wheelchair. The parking lot gets crowded from McDonald's customer cars in the drive through line, dangerous for slow elderly making their way through. No bathrooms available @ Satellite city hall, they recommended McDonald's across the way. Pros, there was no express line with appointment, ID renewal was quick. read more

I recently moved from California to Oahu and brought our car with us. The registration process for an out of State vehicle in Hawaii requires obtaining a safety check certificate first. Don't worry about this safety check certificate's result at first. Your car won't pass it because it comes from another State, yet it is valid to keep the paperwork process going. Next, you have to go to the local DMV office to register your vehicle and get the plates. Finally, after having the registration certificate, you will need to go back to the authorized car shop and have them issue a safety check certificate again, this time your car will pass the inspection because you already have the DMV registration certificate. Oh, you will also get your decals to let you know the renewal date of the safety check. I scheduled an appointment with this branch through the AlohaQ portal (https://alohaq.honolulu.gov/?lp). You will be greeted by a friendly employee and asked a few questions to check you have the required paperwork and to confirm your appointment. I was asked to have a sit and after a brief waiting time (5 minutes) I was called to a window. Tara was the name of the employee who helped me. Coming from California, my previous experiences with DMV paperwork were quite stressing. Here, Tara treated me with respect and I felt valued. Way to go! Thank you for showing me the famous aloha spirit of this land. Whoever leads that branch, let me tell you, you and your team are doing things right. I was out and ready to get my revised safety check certificate in about 10 minutes. Mahalo nui loa Tara and team! All in all, it took me 45 minutes from the time I started the registration until I got my revised safety check certificate in a car shop located at a city nearby. She does such a thorough research and I find her reviews to be such a great resource of valuable information. I have heard many people express their dissatisfaction and grief with the beefed-up requirements to renew driver licenses. I really didn't think much about it until I received a notification postcard in Feb 2021 that my license was to expire later this year. Immediately I went back to Jo Y.'s review as I recall her sharing her experience of this new process. This review is based on my recent experience in renewing my driver's license at the Windward City Satellite City Hall in Kaneohe, located in Windward City Shopping Center, with nearby neighbors of L&L Drive Inn and BR Robbins. Just as Jo had mentioned, renewing in person was simple. When Vai called my name exactly at my appointment time of 12:30pm, I provided her the necessary documents and addressed her requests and the next thing I know, I walked out with my temporary DL in 15 min. Sounds easy but you had to do your homework. Here is a summary of what homework was required. 1) Make an appointment online by going to https://alohaq.honolulu.gov. You can schedule an appointment from 6 months prior to your DL expiration date. Do this early as the town locations were pretty much not available when I did my search back in Feb 2021. You see, back in Feb 2021, the earliest appointment available was for Windward City Satellite City Hall in May 2021. Once done, print a hard copy of the confirmation. 2) Complete and print the application form online. This saves time and stress if you had to fill out this application in person. 3) Gather your certified legal documents as you need to bring the originals on the day of your appointment. I brought my valid US passport and my original social security card. For those who want the federal Real ID "gold star", you need 2 documents from separate accounts to confirm your Hawaii principal residence address. I ended up printing my most recent water bill and checking account statement. I also brought my current vehicle registration and car insurance but it wasn't necessary. I sure didn't want to be late so I arrived 30min prior to my appointment. It gave me leisure time to park and chill in my car before I walked in 15min prior to appointment time. The check-in receptionist lacked personality and was too robot-like. No smile. No personality. After she checked my appointment printout and I verified my application was completed, she advised me to sit on a designated numbered chair and wait until I was called. As I sat down, I saw on a large screen the schedule appointments for the day and what queue they were on. In addition to the application, I had to take a vision test. The staff also took my fingerprints and a photo, not to be confused as the same photo for the DL. Lastly, I took my photo for my permanent DL and within a few minutes was issued a temporary color-printed paper copy of my DL, which has a temporary expiration date. The original one will be mailed to you within 6 - 8 weeks. The DL renewal fee is currently $40 cash or $40.94 if you pay via credit card - - there is a 2.35% service charge. This is good for 8 years. Overall, a very pleasant and quick process on appointment day. You just have to make that critical appointment online and do your homework by gathering the necessary documents and completing the application form. read more

supervisor for the Drivers license window is rude, has zero customer service skills and makes up her own rules. she works off old procedures from 2019. even when customer service proved the supervisor is wrong, with a revision of the procedures from 2023, nothing is done to fix the situation. they rejected my license renewal based on outdated requirements. read more

Unfortunately had a bad experience here today with one of the new employee (female, brown, on the heavy side). I had an appt and they were a few minutes late calling my number so no big deal (even though if you're late 2 mins they make you stand by and wait all day) anyways I was here for my initial handicap placard and was already in pain but after she checked and marked everything on my paperwork she said it's missing the doctors license number, ok so I told her I would call And get it and she said she has to call and for them to give it to her. I told her I was already on the phone with them and she said to give her number and she has to call and get it. She called and said they didn't pick up or something so she turned me away and said I have to fill out another application and get another appointment with my doctor to get another doctor certification. I told her it took almost 3 months to get this signed, she said sorry... all I needed was the medical license number. I'm now convince she didn't know the rules and after doodling all over my paperwork now I have to fill Out new ones and wait for months again for an appointment with my doctor. I should've asked for a manager or something. I looked it up and you can actually find any doctor's license number in any state on a government website!!!!She should've known that. It was signed by the doctor already with the place they work! She had no empathy for a 100% disabled veteran. What a joke. It's disappointing. Never coming back here! read more

This was my THIRD experience with DMV processes in Hawaii but the first time I was actually able to get anything done... the first two were not great, to the point that I wasn't able to complete my transactions in a reasonable number of hours, so I had to leave and try again... and again. I showed up at this location around 9am on a Wednesday morning and there were about 20 numbers in front of me. After an hour, they had only moved 4 numbers, so I walked over and got a drink thinking I had at least another hour or two to wait. This was almost a very big mistake... I got back just in time to be helped and I would have been pretty upset with myself if I had missed it! Lesson: Don't leave assuming there's a long wait. Everyone's transaction take differing amounts of time. It's easy to appreciate the "old school" layout of this DMV/City Hall... no fancy computers and separate queues, just two places to go... 1) get in line for express (limited transactions available), or 2) everyone else - take a number. Worst experience ever. Made an appointment and showed up 5min early. Was directed to seating area then I received a text saying to go to window #9 as they are ready to see me. Went to window #9 and the employee told me to have a seat in a rude tone like I was bothering her. At this point there were 3 employees with no customers and they were all talking with each other not acknowledging the people waiting for their scheduled appointments. They then helped the two people that came in after me which obviously had later appointments than I did as I had been waiting for over 15 min by this time. I had about enough so I left and I won't ever be back to this location even though I work here and probably serve these people with great service. This is a more politically correct term for the placard that is hung from the rearview mirror of a vehicle to allow a person to park in a closer stall - the blue one. I received an application from my physician and went straight to this Satellite City Hall to complete the process. Located at the Windward City Shopping Center, I parked for free near McDonald's and Ross. When I entered the office, there was hardly any line for "other" customers. Most people were in another line for Driver's License renewals. The woman who helped me was quite efficient. I got out in about 10 minutes after showing her my Driver's License. She entered my information, gave me simple instructions, and sent me on my way without a fee! Best of all, she didn't judge! Thank you! read more

My previous experience with satellite city halls have not been so great- primarily related to the wait times. I needed to get a name change on my license so I scheduled an appointment through Aloha Q. Mind you, the wait was about 2 weeks out. There were two women at the concierge. You check in and give them your name. They ask if you filled out the application forms and if you did not, there are forms along the entrance. Once you're finished filling out the forms, you go back to the concierge and they will direct you to either waiting area (black vs orange chairs). There is a TV screen showing who is up next, which is really nice. The staff were friendly, smiled and were working at a good pace. Lines were moving much faster than any other satellite city hall I'd ever visited. I arrived at 1030 for my appointment, filled out the application and got my new license by 1046. Great job to the staff for being so efficient, friendly and communicative. read more

This is the worst satellite city hall I've been to! As soon as you walk in there's a different vibe. Workers here are grouchy and seem like they hate their jobs. I'm sure they're not all like that tho. The lady that helped me register an out of state vehicle even gave me the wrong info! It didn't sound right to me so the next day I went to the Pearl ridge location and it's totally different in there! Workers are laughing and enjoying their jobs! They're pretty quick and efficient there also. But sure enough I was given the wrong info at the Kaneohe location. So even tho this location is 5min from my house I'll never return here! read more

WTH!) I was there at 8:15 and they gave me a "ticket with an appt time of 11:30). When I returned at 11:30 the process was quick and painless. At 11:30 when I returned there were other people without appts and they were told that all the appts for the day were taken. I'm not sure if they will help you schedule an appt for the following day. It didn't seem like it. Other info... There is a 90 day grace period to renew your license after it expires. If renewing your license, fill out paperwork online and print before going in. It will save you time. Make sure you get a "gold star" on your license... (you must check a box on the application form). Unfortunately I'm a procrastinator and although I was reminded many times that my DL was about to expire I ignored. I finally convinced myself I had to get it renewed and was able to 4 days prior to the expiration. First things first come in here prepared! I went online to see what information they needed to renew my license. Unfortunately you need plenty of items to prove your.. 1. Legal Presence 2. Legal Name 3. DOB 4. Social Security They scan your documents into the system. Although I brought a variety of documents. They explained to me that "Letters and Bank Statements" used to prove your Legal Presence must be dated within 60days of DL renewal. Thankfully I brought other documents like my W2 which helped. Also I had no SSN so my W2 assisted with that also. Though I arrived at the office 10 minutes prior to opening, I noticed a line. I was like heck it I rather wait in my car than this.
