When my husband and I decided to refresh the entire first floor of our house after living in it for 27 years, I knew we needed help. The photos on Satin & Slate's website impressed us and we hit the jackpot when Ana was the one who answered the phone when we called! The design proposal was not inexpensive, but it was worth every penny to work with a designer who we quickly came to fully trust. Ana listened to us carefully when she first met with us, and came up with initial design ideas that we never would have come up with on our own. The scope of the project included painting every surface downstairs (including kitchen cabinets), as well as selecting nearly all new furniture, window coverings, and lighting fixtures. Ana was very patient with us when we had concerns about particular materials she recommended, and worked with us to make sure we were comfortable with the final selections. Communicating with Ana (and Mateo in the office) was easy, and even though I knew they were busy with another big commercial project at the same time as our home, we never felt abandoned or ignored! We still are working with Ana to decide where to hang art and place accessories, so I will add photos to the review when the finishing touches are in place. read more

I renovated all bathrooms and the kitchen of my home, as well as replacing all flooring, doors, and windows. I found Emma of Satin and Slate through Yelp and we clicked from our first meeting. Through our conversations and my showing her my Pinterest saves, she was able to dial into my taste and her selections were very on brand for me. Emma is very knowledgeable and when she didn't know the answer, she was able to direct me towards someone who did. Once the design process was done, she helped me to manage the project and communicate with the contractor (she introduced me to two options, got me quotes from both, and I went with JJ Construction, who was wonderful!). I felt very intimidating searching for a designer when we were embarking on a kitchen renovation. So many of them didn't seem like the right fit, but when I stumbled across Satin & Slate's portfolio it felt like things really clicked. Ana came up with a beautiful design and we couldn't be happier with the results. She really helped guide us and worked with us to help our vision come to life. She was patient with my indecisiveness but helped us keep our project moving. We're out of their usual location range and couldn't work with their contractors, so I think because of that some of the communication was challenging between designer and contractor. (It seems like they work pretty seamlessly with Builder Boy!) So while that was challenging at times, the end result is one I know I couldn't have done without Ana's skilled eye and access to beautiful materials I didn't even know existed. I can't even express in words how I love the collaboration with Emma from Satin and Slate in renovating my tiny condo. I have never worked with an interior designer, and am so happy that I found Emma! I was sooooo nervous, not only to spend the money, but for someone to not understand my style. It was an overwhelming project for us especially during this pandemic. Thomas met with us at the homesite and essentially designed it from studs to finish. Emma was our primary contact for Satin and Slate during our whole house remodel. She conducted an initial meeting with us to determine our design ideas. She worked diligently to ensure that materials and fixtures were ordered to meet the construction schedule. These materials included flooring, faucets and fixtures, counters and backsplash, hardware, paint, stucco and doors. She provided vendor recommendations including scheduling and attending the initial appointment with the door vendor. Emma also provided referrals for our shower doors. We had many meetings/calls with her and she was very responsive. We valued her experience and knowledge during this remodel. I was referred to Thomas by Builder Boy to design a layout for my home renovation. I had an architect and structural engineer lined up to draw up all the COMPLETE plans and documentation needed to submit to the city for the permit. And they had promised me to have everything ready to submit within three weeks. Thomas told me that he and his structural engineer would be able to complete the plans faster and save me money, so I didn't need my own architect. Apparently, seven weeks is faster than three weeks. Add in another couple of weeks delay because Thomas held up construction of a six figure renovation, with $3k in monthly carrying costs, because I hadn't picked out a $300 faucet and $500 chandelier. I paid well into the four figures for the plans and basic designs for my new home. The city has come back twice with questions because the plans are incomplete and Thomas is not willing to complete the work I already paid him to do. That is exactly why he didn't want me to use my own architect for the plans - it would have been a missed opportunity to double charge me. The basic room designs (think very basic as in Ikea black/white print out) are not worth $900 a room, as Lowe's, Home Depot, Kohler, Bauformat, etc all now offer free 3D designs, and in full color, with a reasonable size purchase. I had to throw in the towel on a 12k order of materials as Thomas was very secretive about the status and didn't want me to know what he did with the money. And he's definitely not worth the thousands for plans that will deliberately be incomplete so he can charge you...to properly complete the work he was already paid to do. I would suggest going somewhere else....anywhere else. read more

I was talking to Lindsay prior to my move to Houston and didn't want to have to find a new designer that I worked well with, so I purchased 3 virtual packages for her help in my new space remotely. It was a little hard taking the specific measurements but she was so helpful and patient.
