We have no cancer but both of my parents, my younger sister, my grandparents, both granfathers died young, at 49 and 63 of heart disease, 7 or my Dad's 8 brothers and my mother's 4 siblings....so much heart disease and only a couple people lived beyond 83 and many died in their 60s and younger. The NM Heart Institute was working through Presbyterian hospital at the time but not for long. There was a split and they built a wonderful facility across the interstate and we feel fortunate to have them. My cardiologist saved my life. He was a GREAT doctor, and I am alive today at 77 because of him and the Heart Institute. My husband died of cancer 19 months ago but used the Heart Institute over the years as have I. I won't be surprised if I have to use them in the coming years. I have gotten such good care over the years. They are outstanding. I most highly recommend them.

I'm not sure how new the hospital is, but it FEELS new(er). It's very clean without having that sterile, hospital feel. I like the signage. I was also amused by the vending machine that sells scrubs. I suppose that would come in handy should one of the employees forget or need a new pair of scrubs. The nurse who came to attend to my Mom's friend was very pleasant. She engaged in small talk about her own personal life and had a caring demeanor. Overall, I think it's a nice hospital.

She said "I have heard unless you camp out there you get no communication" for such a small hospital this is crazy. First part So.... 2nd time here w hubby for surgery ie the bad news. It's difficult because I worked in healthcare for years long ago and wanted so badly to really like all about this hospital. But our doc, Dr Proffit is excellent. Bedside manner and of course competence are so important. He has both. Nice person and doc. BUT their communication and discharge planning are beyond abysmal. I know they have contract and traveling nurses but seriously folks, I got NO call from the time we went in to Westside and then at Heart. No how he's doing, no when he will be discharged no nothing. Having been a Kaiser patient for about 30 years in So Cal I know they have systems down to a science but I literally felt like saying "oh you want him go home, well you drive him" If you won't give me the common courtesy of letting me know you fail. Big time.

Check in has evolved and is faster than it used to be. After check in I sat for about 10 minutes before I was taken for vitals. The staff are all very nice. I returned to the lobby, I waited about 15 minutes the audiologist took me for a thorough hearing test. Was sent back to the lobby where I waited 15-20 minutes, i'm shown into the observation room. My ENT Dr. Meiklejohn who has been taking care of my left ear for years comes in within 5 minutes. He has the best bedside manner, very gentle and explains everything as he exams you. We talked about goals for the future of my hearing and referrals were made. He walked me to the nurses station, filled a nurse in, bid me goodbye. The nurse set up my next appointment. Off I went for the short walk back to the big new parking lot. Could of taken the available cart ride. It was a beautiful morning and I was glad to walk in the fresh air. I highly recommend UNM Surgical Specialities Clinic.

Wow, this is really bad, like so bad that I'm having to contact the board about the Women's Pain…read moreClinic doctor Lauren Harris, NP. She wrote in my chart that I am an opioid addict and that she prescribed narcan (both of which are lies, and I am currently in contact with my PCP as well as waiting for calls back from every single board in New Mexico about Lauren. Not only have I ever taken an opioid pill (not even for my wisdom tooth removal), I told her straight out that I didn't want pills. She offered me ganglion shots or nothing, and then openly bold face lied about my drug usage. She also wrote that I have "treatment resistant anxiety" which is not true, I see multiple therapists weekly for my C/PTSD and anxiety, and if she were to actually read my chart then she would see that I have and always have had (since I've been going to my regular PCP at 9) a high heart rate with slightly elevated I would avoid Lauren at all costs, and that goes doubly for anyone who is immunocompromised; she refuses to mask and thinks she knows disabilities better than the people who have them. I would give her zero stars if I could. Absolutely the worst care I have ever received in my life. Before covid-19 killed my Mom and disabled me, she told me to never go to Lovelace because it was the worst hospital she'd ever been to. I should've listened, because not only was this a waste of time, but Lauren will be vindictive and lie openly about you in your chart. I will be taking drug tests to prove to my doctor that I take my gabapentin (for shingles post-herpetic neuropathy) as prescribed and the same with my Flexeril, both of which he was happy to prescribe me because this has been an ongoing issue since my first two covid infects in 2020. (Jan 2020 and then Oct. 2020). Lauren will make sure you don't get any care and she will do so gleefully.

I had to explain to them what they did was a HIPAA violation. The triage nurse put the completely wrong reason I was there (unbeknownst to me at the time) which put me at the bottom of the list to be seen so I had to wait for hours and hours. I think they put the other person's triage info in my chart. The discharge papers listed the completely WRONG reason I was there so the discharge advice was also wrong! The entire staff was unsympathetic to everyone there and I saw numerous eye rolls by the staff when they were asked questions by the waiting patients. What a waste of time!!
