I've loved Sausalito Ferry Company since I was fourteen or so and would take the bus to Sausalito just for something to do. There are still buckets and buckets of teeny-weenie plastic animals (and bugs, and birds, and, like, appliances). There are still a ton of cards for your every odd occasion (or odd person's occasion). There are still friendly people running the register (say, for example, someone who wants to play the guessing game with me on how much my handful of farm animals will cost). The prices have gone up, yes. But what hasn't? They still do free gift-wrapping across the street. And this is still my favorite store in the area. read more

I like browsing random knick knacks and gadgets and this place is THE place to do so! My friends and I had biked over the GGBridge to Sausalito from the Marina district (long bike ride especially when your bike is stuck in 7th gear 80% of the time -_-) and one of them wanted to go here since she was there last time. From the outside the place looked a little unappealing but then I realized there is a reason for why there were a lot of people inside browsing and checking out funny, random, cool, handy, cute, random, and more random things in the store. They have a lot of products here; from cell phone accessories, grow your own jesus, extend-a-forks, a wallet with a picture of bacon on it, wind up toys of little dinosaurs, big teeth, and penguins, and so much more! This is one of those places where you can literally laugh out loud and find one of the most unusual and fascinating toys ever made. It's fun in here but I don't think i'd want to buy anything for myself, more for people that I think of when I look at these toys. I guess you can call this store a modern toy store for the teenagers and adults. It was nice being able to find a place to find gag gifts (besides Spencer's gifts) that's also local. The prices here are okay but i don't expect it to be super cheap since it is after all, Sausalito. I'd like to come back to this store again when I come back home and check out any new knick knacks and paddywhacks here again. And hopefully I will have more money to spend on especially for those instantaneous moments of friends that come to mind when looking at one of the unique products on the shelf. read more

This is my absolute favorite store in Sausalito. They have tons of neat and random things that make it a great place to shop for gifts from Paul Frank to famous people action figures and bobble heads to bacon flavored floss to cell phone trinkets to special occasion cards. And whenever I come, I have to stop and read one of their Mr. Men and Little Miss books. They have a whole rack full of these books and I always get a good kick out of them. Time for another update on the Sausalito Ferry Company! If I could hack into Yelp and upgrade my rating to 6 stars, I would totally do it. Ken, Maria and the rest of the team really love the world they're in -- a world of good humor and style, quality toys and surprises for people of all ages, tiny duckies and giant Totoro figures, stylish tee shirts, and books and cards. I have never been in the store without finding exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. Most recently, I picked up some lovely affordable swag to drop off when we go geocaching; a Tintin tote bag; a set of 6 Nightmare Before Christmas mini bobble heads for my husband's office desk; and some bacon-flavored chewing gum for a friend at school. read more

I really liked this store for a number of reasons: 1) The endless amount of Paul Frank items that they carry. 2) Containers upon containers at the counter filled with random trinkets and goodies. 3) Random and hilarious items that would make great gifts to your random and hilarious friends. This store is an absolute hidden gem. They carry items with characters from Tokidoki, Paul Frank, Sunshine Buddy, Doraemon...the list goes on. The thing I liked most about this store was how rare some of the items were. You can tell which toys came straight from Japan. Surprisingly, a lot of the toys weren't as expensive as I would have expected them to be. I've been to a lot of specialty stores that would be selling a lot of the items for much higher prices, but I guess that's what makes this store so attractive. They even had this one toy with these Japanese characters that I haven't seen since I was a kid...crazy. If you're a sucker for trinkets and cutsie toys, beware. It's hard to walk out of this store empty handed. If you look around hard enough, you can find stuff at reasonable prices. As for me, it's always so hard to say no to Doraemon. read more

Not only does this store have awesome and unique trinkets, but their customer service is the best I've experienced. I drove up from San Jose to purchase this specific Tintin poster as a gift, but when my fiancé opened the package, the poster did not match the picture label on the outside. I was a little bummed out because I had drove over an hour for a specific poster and it ended up being the wrong one. So I called the store, explained the situation, and this genuinely kind and understanding gentleman immediately offered to express ship me the correct poster, free of charge, and that I should keep the other one as well. Keep in mind, these posters are around $30-$40. The next day, I received the poster I wanted to initially purchase, and now we have two Tintin posters that my fiancé loves. This Store definitely goes above-and-beyond for their customers. Long story short, I was purchasing a gift for my girlfriend online. Here is what Saualito Ferry did. 1) Their employee Tara made a personal phone call to me on a Saturday offering to gift wrap the order for my girlfriend free-of-charge. 2)Tara delivered it to my residence by overnight mail (which I didn't pay for!) from California to Virginia! Cooling down from a bike ride across the Golden Gate, we decided to walk around the quaint downtown Sausalito area. Sausalito is a very pretty town, though dangerously close to the aesthetic of Thomas Kincaid paintings. The shops around here tend to be geared towards the tourist set...a bit of a yawn for twenty-thirtysomething urbanites. Right before I was ready to write off all the shops here I came upon Sausalito Ferry Co. A fun store that has many of the ironic, wiseass novelties of stores like Therapy in the Mission, a lot of the cute tchokes that you would find at Giant Robot, and a penchant for Paul Frank stuff. Cell phone charms, Ugly Dolls, edgy greeting cards, and lots and lots of mini-animals (I am a TOTAL sucker for things in miniature form; see the picture I added)...I lurve it! It's not quite as subversive as stores in SF that sell similar items - after all it is located in a tourist spot - but it is definitely a nice change of pace for this ho-hum downtown shopping area! read more

A trip into this store was definitely a very disappointing experience. We were there at 5:50pm last night and the lady was in the back of the store. She walked up to the front counter and totally ignored us. At first, I wasn't upset because I had thought that she must have been busy doing something. Within a minute, a Caucasian male walked in and she right away greeted him and asked if he needed help with anything. I sure feel sorry for the owners who had hired her. It's just too bad....... I picked up a "little miss sunshine" t-shirt w/ San Francisco LOVE logo for a friend who is moving to Canada. Great photo cards of the GG bridge and Bay bridge as well. My first encounter was trying to find a Sausalito hoodie for my friend's roommate (long story). The guy was super nice - said they were pretty hard to find and the only place he knew of was down a couple of doors. I thanked him and was impressed by how nice he was to the crazy woman with the long story came back a couple weeks later to buy a gag gift for my company's holiday gift exchange. I've been going here since I was 6 years old. They have a lot of imported Japanese stuff, so if you're a Japanophile, this is your store. They have a huge selection of unique/funny/sometimes inappropriate cards for all occasions, clothes, toys, knick knacks. I always go here to pick up little presents for people (great stocking stuffers, little pick-me up gifts, or mini-presents to add to a main gift). This store is definitely a highlight in downtown Sausalito, and much more fun than Games People Play which just feels like a stuffy toy store-cheesy souvenier hybrid. read more

I love Sausalito Ferry Company! I first discovered this store online when I was researching Japanese erasers. Not only does this store sell tones of Japanese erasers online and in store, but they have so many other miniature figures and fun gifts. By the register they've opened Safari Ltd. Toobs and let you pick out specific figures from all different kinds of animals to deep sea fish to dinosaurs. The staff were friendly and when you purchase anything from their website, the process is always easy the orders for me have always arrived quickly. read more

They have a magnificent collection of little Japanese figurines, Kewpi dolls, odd and cute keychains and the largest selection of Iwako erasers I've seen in the United States. Lots of cute cell phone charms, t-shirts, and gag gifts, too. They also run the toy store across the street. Reminds me of the rainbow sticker and trinket shops that used to exist in abundance in the bay area back in the early 80's. The staff is really young, there were restocking boxes about when we visited, but you can't beat the selection. They also have a website and you can order online. read more

CED: Man, when I saw this store I literally rushed to go in. So many toys and gadgets and things you might only use once kinda store. I really liked it and I didn't know what I truly wanted. Probably 30 mins into looking around and there are just too many things that I wanted, but I came into reality with myself and said nahhhhh. Left with nothing =/.
