Schnitzel lunch with vegetables and spetzle.
    Louise L.

Great food, Prompt service, friendly waitress and lovely German pub atmosphere. We ordered the schnitzel lunch special and a few German beers. Food tastes awesome and beer was nice and fresh. Definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Great value and portion. Lacking a real flavour

I really want to be supportive of this local business but we honestly were so disappointed with our experience and food here that I can't recommend it. The service was decent and staff were friendly enough. However, we were given much more than "a few minutes" to read the menu. We couldn't even flag someone down to order until 15 minutes of sitting around and they weren't busy! They kept saying "hold on" and helping another table. Our food needless to say took an even longer time. It was long enough that we were ready to just tell them to cancel it and leave.. I have never reached that point of waiting. It's like a Hells Kitchen episode without the entertainment. We ordered the famous pork hock which was a large enough portion that I think 2 people can easily fill up. There was not much flavour but it was cooked well through. I wouldn't say it was nearly worth the wait, but it's a comparably good value to other locations that serve the same specialty. The sausages were decent, but I wouldn't likely return for them. The soup was awful. It was more representative of a bowl of cooked onions and salt which is not a French Onion Soup. I couldn't get that down and when we let the server know, we were certainly not even offered to have it cancelled. I love a local stop and I'm glad to see there are patrons who will return and do love their food. I personally didn't enjoy it and will dine elsewhere.

3 for the food + 1 for friendly service. Came here tonight after finding this place on Yelp- and after calling to make sure they had enough "hock in stock." For $24.99 the gigantic pork hock comes with choice of 2 sides: Home fries, red cabbage, creamy mixed veggies, sauerkraut, and spatzle . One will serve 2 for sure! Maybe even 3... Our waitress Karla was really friendly and attentive. She informed us that the pork hock is only served on weekends and the schnitzel special is on Thursdays and Fridays for $12.99. The interior definitely adds to the cultural dining experience. Dated, but welcoming... one can see how this place has stood the test of time.

    Beautiful interior german style

I went to this place on a friday night. it was not very packed. but from the beginning looking at the outside design. it really did look like a german pub in old style germany. The interior was very nice and the staff was friendly. The placed was not very packed for a friday night. Immediately we saw the specials were the german pork hock, which is a famous german dish, and the garlic butter pork chop. so we decided to ordered the specials as well as the appetizer of escargot garlic butter. The complimentary german and escargot were disappointing, as they were both pretty cold. and the escargot was barely heated at all. The garlic bread was also cold You can tell it was pre-done a while back. on to the main course, the German pork hock, had a good layer and was oven backed. although the outer layer was very soft, the inside when you get to the core is very overcooked and rough. So overall it is a good dish, but by no means the best it could be. The garlic butter pork chop was not bad, although it was nothing special. it was particular soft, or particularly tender. The desert was pretty good. the desert was perhaps the best parts. the raspberry puree for the desert is one of the best part of the peach marbila. and the apple strudle with ice cream, it is very hot and taste ready made. Overall the 4 star reflect a good dining experience, although of course i would not say it is the best german food around.

Wiener Schnitzel the size of the plate!

what a cute joint! a half-timber building with a dining room decorated in a ton of German/Hungarian knick knacks all over. super quiet during lunchtime on a Saturday; we (including a few others after us) had come in thinking the signs outside meant all-day breakfast, but alas brekkie ends at 12 here. the lady (owner?) was kind enough to suggest a different place down the road for all day breakfast but one look at the menu and I figured it'd be worth a shot staying. so glad we did cause the food here is delicious; the WIENER SCHNITZEL is so tender and breading nice and crisp. we opted to order a creamy wine sauce with mushrooms on the side (from the Geschnitzeltes Züricher Art dish) and ohhhhhhh my it was so heavenly. the Hungarian-style CABBAGE ROLL also hit the spot; a good amount of hearty with meat and rice filling and homemade tomato sauce and everything well seasoned. both entrees came with home fries (pretty basic) and vegetables (potatoes, cauliflower, potatoes, broccoli) cooked in a light white sauce that was also so bomb. in comparison with the dinner menu, the lunch options (half the price!) are just as plenty and portion sizes aren't skimpy at all. this restaurant completely took my stomach back to Germany - DAS IST GUT.

Our mushroom paprika was outstanding and would just say just a bit salty. The Owner came to greet us which was lovely. I cannot think of anything but the word spectacular about the desserts. Our group tried a chestnut puree, a puncs torte (rum cake) and an apple strudel and they were definitely homemade and brought us back to how our parents baked when we were growing up as my Dad was an award-winning baker with his lovely tortes and other baked goods. There are vegetarian and vegan options - you just need to let your Server know about your requirements. Please make it a point to go to this restaurant and they will make you feel as though you have come home for a wonderful meal. The person who I assume does some of the baking, Annamaria Torok, also offers weekend "workshops" at the restaurant for those interested. Her classes as for baked goods as well as main courses. They also have copies of her recipe books there for sale if you want to try to make these sumptuous creations at home.

We took the Budapest platter for two and it was very tasty and satisfying. They also have these big old school chilled beer mugs which would make the drinking experience awesome. Be aware that their other soups are often "not available". Their salads are huge and must be shared. This is not a restaurant that you plan on having an appetizer, a main course and a dessert because the main course portions are gigantic. The schnitzels are really what you're going for. You get to choose 2 of 4 sides (rice, potatoes, red cabbage, veggies) and a schnitzel. You can't go wrong with any of the schnitzels. It all comes on your plate with the schnitzel often being bigger than the dinner plate itself. Their nokedli (Hungarian dumpling) is a side dish too and it is tasty. Their cucumber salad is good too. The restaurant is family owned and the staff are very helpful. They do go out of their way to assist or help and make accommodations. The restaurant is tired looking and there is a smell when you first walk in but nothing too bad. We would like to go more often, but it's usually reserved for more special occasions given the price. The price isn't crazy expensive given the price of food today and the portion, but it does exceed what would like to pay for a normal night out.

What you are getting is a giant piece of of breading, just the coating which overflows the plate, with very little meat inside. Potato and cabbage were very good but can't recommend it for the prices being charged.

The owner (I believe she is the owner) greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. She brought us water and menus. My sister and I ordered 2 cabbage rolls, Potato and Cheese Pierogies, Meat Pierogies with bacon and onions to share. For my son, we tried ordering the schnitzel sandwich, but was told that was unavailable. My son doesn't eat mashed potatoes so I asked if I could just order him a schnitzel and she said yes. The food came out in about 15 minutes. The cabbage rolls were fantastic, the perfect amount of acidity in the sauce. I really don't like tomatoes or cabbage, but there is something special about the cabbage rolls. I ate very bit of mine. The pierogies were wonderful. I usually prefer just potato and cheese, but honestly between those and the meat, I couldn't decide which I liked more. Both were flavorful especially with the sauteed onions and sour cream. My son's schnitzel was huge! He could only eat about half of it and when my son asked for ketchup (much to my dismay) the owner was very nice about it and commented that's the way her daughter likes it too. Honestly the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was great. It was very similar to what I had in Poland. If this restaurant was closer to my home I would visit often. We had no issue with parking. We were able to get a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Parking was also not too expensive since you aren't in the downtown area. If you are in the area and want a wonderful meal, be sure to visit.

It was a Sunday night. Our reservation was at 6P. We left at 5P. It took us 35 minutes. Great meal. Started with the goulash. The beef had been pounded and was small and tender like the potatoes and carrots. I opted for minor spicy. It was served very hot and was perfect. We've had goulash at Grundel in Hungary, and this was comparable. We both had the pork wienerschnitzel, which came with fried potatoes and a smidge of red cabbage. The pork was divine. We've had wienerschnitzel across Central Europe, and this one was perfection. The sprinkle of dill added a nice mild tang (great touch). The portion of pork was not huge, but you get plenty of taters. My lovely had the apple strudel for dessert. I had the crepe stuffed with jam. Both were incredible. I paired mine with the Viennese coffee, which could have been served a bit hotter. It was tasty, though. I also had the berry spritzer and a shot of apricot brandy. The first was refreshing; the second didn't taste very apricoty. Parking is immediately in front of this gem. Wonderful meal expertly prepared. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Highly recommend.
