This is probably the most popular hike in the park. It's a 2-mile loop located right at the end of the public part of the road and the trail is fairly flat and easy-- that is, unless it's icy. You have a great chance of seeing ptarmigan and arctic squirrels. It's also your best (only?) chance of seeing doll sheep without taking a bus into the park. I strongly recommend hiking past the bridge at the end. The doll sheep are seen most often high on the mountain on the left side (past the bridge). If you're daring, you can hike up after them. But even if you don't see them, the rock formations out there are bizarre and fascinating. Some of them look like castles and some of them look like they are from outer space.
It's a good trail but don't let this be the only one you do. You've got to get away from the people and really get into the bush. If you hike pretty much anywhere else in the park then you will have a better chance of seeing wildlife than people. read more
